People do that in real life it's hard unrealistic. People's guards aren't up 24/7 and since they hadn't had issues in 7 days they are bound to slack for a little bit. Compare that with the fact that their daughter was supposed to be with the little boy they assumed he would be alright.
One of the most chilling opening death scenes ever. Just the reactions on the faces of his family says it all. They knew he was a goner and they're just watching and waiting for the inevitable to occur.
It’s a great scene and everything, but of course it doesn’t make sense to leave the youngest in the back . Even when not in a world with killer aliens hypersensitive to sound, if you’re on a walk with a small kid you keep your eyes on em all the time.
@@car3ss thats honestly just the basics of being a parent. why would you _ever_ want your small child walking behind you when you cant keep an eye on them? the part that should be emphasized is that in a situation involving hypersensitive hearing aliens that kills you for making too much noise, they gave a child batteries for a toy that lights up and emits loud noises. they were practically setting him up to fail.
Clearly the monster knew the toy was unsuitable for his age and just wanted to return it to the shop they bought it from.... But clearly took the kid aswell.
We need animation remake of this scene where family is in terror than "monster" jumps out, land harmlessly, put glasses on and start explaining that this toy is too noisy and too blinking so it overstimulates child of this age and they can swap it for free than "monster" leaves taking toy and coupon for other stuff in it's place
He was pretty young. This is a mistake on the parents' part. Walk behind the damn group, so you see your kids better. Let alone in an apocalyptic event 🗿
I remember seeing this teased in the trailer thinking it would be a climatic moment towards the end with a last moment save. Was I ever wrong. This film has guts
John Krasinski is a really good director, it's already relatively silent with their body language and their movement, but giving us the deaf girl's POV as well as her hearing, giving as well as showing her emotions: what happened? Why is everyone looking like that? Is there danger? Why is the dad running towards me, etc, and the brilliant switch to sound at the right moment just made this even better
I’m not sure about details but it’s probably based on the other death scenes we’ve seen in the movie and the fact you can actually see blood spatter right as it snatched him up.
Main reason this specific part of the movie is so good, is because most movies don't make kid's deaths happpen so much (or at least its not shown), because its by far the worst case scenario for anyone to live through. But to be fair, who in their right mind will have a family walk, AND PUT THE YOUNGEST KID IN THE BACK OF THE LINE LIKE 15 METERS AWAY !? ESPECIALLY IN A WORLD FILLED WITH HUMAN EATING ALIENS !
@@jake_thefox4675 I absolutely agree that the kid shouldn't have been behind everyone else, but still, how incredibly smart should You be to NOT turn on a sound emitter when there are monsters that kill anything that makes sound? I am probably slightly lower than average, but the thought of blasting some heavy metal when there are several murder machines that attack anything that makes sound would never cross my mind.
There is some strategy to it. The children are most likely to cause noise and pull attention, keeping them at the tail and wings of the group ensures anything attacking them doesn't end up in the center of the formation and catch others in collateral. Doubtful that the parents planned this, given how evidently uncaring it can be.
Yeah no doubt he was like on the other side of the bridge and had to run a football field length to reach him , meanwhile what about the fathers running footsteps on the bridge?
kb 94 In their defence, they're distracted caring for the other child who is very sick. One distraction, one mistake, and their youngest was gone. That's the movie's source of terror in this scene.
The saddest part was the seconds before he died when he held it up with both hands and what is sadder is that he was so young and didn’t know what was happening
Yep, they always have the kid act older than what they actually are meant to be… in a real situation this would have actually happened (But no one is stupid enough to let the kid be in the back, nor keep a toy)
Yeah because it’s illegal to show a child being directly abused or harmed in films. That’s why we didn’t see his body being ripped apart, just thrown off screen. We know he’s dead but it doesn’t show it.
Yeet BOI if you watch stranger things it looks like the same monster. But if you don’t pretty much this family is tryna survive in this town with a monster eating everybody that talk. And in the movie be really don’t talk, but it’s not that scary to me if you want scary you should watch brightburn
Honestly I can’t stop laughing at this scene now because ever since seeing Ryback edited into this scene, all I can see is Ryback eating chips before getting killed.😂
At first I was really mad at the kid for putting everyone in danger but I realized this was a parental issue. Your kid just dropped a toy in the pharmacy and your daughter caught it and saved you'll. That would then be the time to ramp up the serious factor and say all kids where we can see you. Yes the daughter is also at fault for circumventing her fathers will in not letting her brother have the toy but the parents should've made sure he didn't pick it back up. But what do they do? Walk off again and leave the kids in the pharmacy to their on devices. And then to not supervise them even further and not have one parent lead and the other tail is foolish and negligent. I would never let my niece or nephew be out of my sight when they're with me. They put way too much trust in children. And to then have a baby in this environment... it's as if they are purposely being irresponsible.
It’s funny because video games are considered a lower art, but their sound design (especially horror games) is often miles above this. #1 in my opinion is Alien Isolation. The sounds for that are so good that they used them mostly unaltered for Audible’s Alien audio dramas.
Lol, yeah imagine stepping on a nail because somebody decided it was a good idea to hammer it in from under the steps. Like... how crazy would that be??
@@shekelman9336 yeah they put the batteries on a counter within easy reach of him and then left him in the shop to come out last, with the batteries right next to him. If you leave a young kid alone within easy reach of something they're not supposed to have there's a 95% chance they'll take it. If anything it would've been better for the movie not to take those steps cause they're so punitive
To be completely fair, it's gotta be a hard situation on the kid emotionally, he's so little and has no social interaction outside of his family, no friends, no sound stimulation and parents that are (rightfully) in constant fear of death, it's normal for anyone under that much stress, nevermind a child to rebel.

1. Evelyn is able to stop herself screaming despite knowing her son is going to die. She does this again later in the movie while giving birth. Incredible personal strength.
2. Lee runs towards his son putting himself in danger because he would die to protect them. He does this again later to save the other kids by shouting to get the monsters attention.

There is some strategy to it. The children are most likely to cause noise and pull attention, keeping them at the tail and wings of the group ensures anything attacking them doesn't end up in the center of the formation and catch others in collateral.
Great points!

Yeah cause it so unique, the mother didn't speak until like half way through the movie.

They did take steps to prevent it but the kid went behind their back n put batteries back in it
@@shekelman9336 yeah they put the batteries on a counter within easy reach of him and then left him in the shop to come out last, with the batteries right next to him.
There's a few in Saw that were preventable.
