Loved this video! It has changed my makeup game! Using the damp beauty blender with setting powder keeps my foundation in place for hours. And I had no idea that some of my powders were finishing powders not setting powders & that's why they weren't working out. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Thank you so much for the clarification! One time I baked with NYX HD Finishing Powder and I got intense flash back in pictures. I did the same with my Cover FX Perfect Setting Powder and got zero flashback. Now it makes sense as to why this happened!
Another great video. I have the hourglass ambient lighting powder, Iove it. Your demo helped me to see how I can get an even better finished look from it so thankyou for that. Want to go back & find your setting powder video now.
Thx so much for the clarification! I can't believe ur over 40.... ur gorgeous. I definitely will be trying the finishing power brands u suggest. for ur flyaways I suggest using L'Oreal Elnett Satin extra strong hold hairspray. I prefer unscented. apply a light coating & smooth w/ur hands. as it says, disappears w/a brush stroke. thank you again. hope the spray works for u.
I love the Guerlain meterorites pearls to finish my makeup. I rarely using a setting powder all over my face as I have dry skin but I like the ByTerry hydra powder 💜
I love HD powders underneath my eyes! For my daytime makeup, I use a translucent setting powder because SPF can make my skin greasy and I apply it with a puff. For nighttime I don't use a setting powder as my skin is dry anyways, but I'm considering buying the NYX Photophinish finishing powder. I swatched it in the store and it was beautiful.
I have been using powder for years and years and years, until your videos, I had no idea there was a difference between setting and finishing powders! ( color me stupid, lol) My makeup game has completely changed thanks to you and your fabulous, helpful, informative videos!! Please keep doing your wonderful, enlightening videos!!
Thank you for this awesome video. Not a lot of information about the difference here on the internet and I find myself so confused!! Thank you for clearing things up for me. xo
My issue is a cakey look if I use a setting powder and a finishing powder. I don't put much concealer under my eyes, so no need to set that area. But need to set my t-zone...but prefer a Dewey, overall finish. I would also like to bring some lightness/highlight to the center of my face! Suggestion?
It's hard to say without knowing why you're getting a cakey look. I'm not sure if it's the powders or the way you're setting or if you may be lucky and not need to set! If you want that look, it sounds like highlighting and contouring/bronzing for that highlighted focus might be more what you're looking for..and using a setting spray. :)
Playing Makeup Hey girl! The struggle is real! I don't use both on my whole face, as I just can't. Set the areas that need setting then try the finishing powder in the other areas you'd like a blurred or blended look...then maybe set with a setting spray that's going to keep you glowy? Also, a decent setting powder that locks you in, keeps you matte but not too flat is the Nars crystal light reflecting. 😘
I have a sample here of the Undercover to try. I did this look with Sweet Peach but not this exact look: ua-cam.com/video/0qvKcsIYGk0/v-deo.html. Thanks so much! :)
LisaD GingerSnaps I completely agree. I've been using the Nars matte concealer and there is no need to set it. Powder under my eyes looks terrible. If I put on slightly more than I should, I just tap it in with my finger and it's all good.
Your eyes! They look extra blue in this video. Great video- I found it from the link on your November favorites. So important to know the difference between setting and finishing powder- you nailed it 👍🏼
Steph, my mother n law is in her mid 70s she wears makeup daily but I was wondering would you recommend a finishing powder for someone her age? Also, her skin is very dry.
+Charity Wrenn I just recommended the Wet N Wild to my own mom as a starting point. It's soft and it won't break the bank if she doesn't like it. I know it seems like a young brand but it's a really nice powder. :)
Charity Wrenn Hi I saw your comment and I thought I'd chime in. I've always been a powder girl and now that I've aged my skin is so crazy dry. I have the hardest time with setting powders all over my face. The finishing powders that she spoke of in this video, the Wet n Wild and the Hourglass in particular, I find are wonderful for us dry skin ladies. They honestly help blur fine lines and just give your skin a little something. My mom has always been against powder, and she finally gave in to finishing powder because they aren't really drying. I hope this helps. 😊
I subscribed to your channel after watching your collab with Melanie. I just now realized that you are a fellow south Louisiana gal!! So glad to have found your channel. I have really oily/combo skin like Melanie and love her tips but I have wondered what products work well in this crazy humidity we have down here.
I have the WNW photofocus and used it as a setting powder and didn't really like it, and now I know why! I will try it as a finishing powder and see how that goes. I also have the Hourglass Dim light and find it to be too dark. it actually makes me look a bit tanned and weird, but people will compliment me on my glory pretty skin...go figure....
You mentioned you have a yellow undertone, so do I. Because of that I cannot wear yellow clothes because it brings out my yellow undertone & I look like I have jaundice...lol. Is it not better to stay away from your undertone color? I always found with my foundations I go with a neutral when possible to help cancel out yellowness. Any clarification you can provide would be helpful.
Hi Stephanie. I've just subscribed ... Heyyyy new family 🤗 may I ask if your skin is more on the dry side does adding finishing powder not make your skin look too powdery and heavy please ... Your skin is divine but mine is not as good as yours ... Many thanks 🥰
It doesn't! In this playlist, there are two updated videos at the top about finishing powders. One of them addresses that, but I can't recall which. I hope they help too! Thanks for subscribing! ua-cam.com/video/LM_hDaP6UVY/v-deo.html
0:24, I've got to stop and say THANK YOU for not beginning with "Hi, everybody, welcome back to my channel." It's so redundantly patronising. Happy sigh.
I am over 60 with a few small wrinkles and ‘normal skin’. Would like to wear a powder that gives a little sheen and avoids a dry look. I only use moisturiser at the moment as I have always had good skin but need a little help now.
@@StephanieMarie thanks so much, I buy it with medium plus shade and it was gorgeous, Unfortunately, I olso buy dim light from hourglass and I don't like it.
I keep hopping on and off due to vacations and going to my parents where they cook for me. When I do it, I LOVE it. But I do notice something really ODD when I hop off of it that I need to note in a video. I'll update before too long. :)
Stephanie Marie I wanna hear about it! I've been doing it on and off too... the only thing I notice is how much better I feel when I stick to it, and less hungry.
Are you planning on reviewing the Estee Lauder double wear nude? I'm kind of waiting on you before I buy it lol You are my foundation match in everything
I already did! Check my Foundation Road Test playlist! You may want to hit the notification bell if you haven't, so you get updates of when my videos go up. You may have missed it! :)
Ahhh, yes. I don't put foundations in there that don't have good matches for me. 😬 It would be misleading. And right now, in the US, there's not a good match for me. You'll see in the video! :)
So informative! I have the fancy balls from Guerlain 🤣 that I love to buff over my skin after my makeup is complete. I always forget the step but when I remember, it's beautiful.
i hate to say it, i literally can't see any of the swatches. I didn't know if that was the point, that you can't see them? i have the ambient light powder, the travel size. I really can't see any difference when i used it. but i love the idea.
Yes, I noted that at the beginning during the first swatch on the screen. 😀 The powders are so sheer and blend in so well, they're really hard to see on screen. These are the kinds of things we can't tell until we're in the editing process. I didn't want to leave it out b/c then I'd be asked why I didn't swatch them! 😩😂
i figured it was. lighting is so tricky too. If it is too bright it washes everything out and if it isn't enough, you can't see anything, and if it is just right and the product is sheer, you can't see it. I assumed but wanted to ask if it was the latter. like i said, i have one and i have used it, but i literally can't see a difference and i wondered if it was doing something i can't notice? but i like the idea. I have also wondered about the differences in setting powders loose versus pressed.
Hi Andrea, I replied to you in the setting powder video. It doesn't matter what setting powder you use beforehand. I think I had Boots No 7 on this day? It's not an exact science. You may prefer different ones than I do. But I do talk about my favorite setting powders in this video: ua-cam.com/video/jmTJ6KvcS_g/v-deo.html.
Have you done the 5 minute challenge? if you haven't you really need to. I know you would rock a look that we would actually love to attempt for a work day, running late, don't want to scare people with our crazy pigmentation. lol

Not yet. I kind of threw it together...I've been messing around with Sweet Peach over the past week or two! :) Thanks!

Finally! I understand now how to use finishing powder!

So helpful, Stephanie!! So glad you did this video - thank you!!
Thanks for the great reviews of products...you could pass for Angie's (fromHot and Flashy) younger sister😉!
I love It Bye Bye Pores powder, its great for mature skin.
Have you done a video on powder foundations? IT Cosmetics, Becca, Laura Geller are a few I've tried. Would be great to know your hits and misses.
Not yet but it's in my planner to do soon! :)
Thanks for explaining the difference between the two powders.
I've been using finishing powder, but I need to try it with a more dense brush. Thanks for the tip!! 💕

I'm learning so much from your tutorials! Do you have video on this eye look and have you tried Dior Undercover Foundation? Thank you

Yes! Thank you. Oh, I've been wearing my under eye concealer and not setting it with powder and it's looking much better👍
Thatmakeupjunkie No idea, it just doesn't. I'm using the Maybeline age rewind concealer.

Love your eye make up! what did you use?
It's all in my description box. :) I've been playing with my Sweet Peach palette lately!
What about your well people bio brightening powder? Is that more for setting or finishing or do you not like it so much?
That's one of my setting powder favorites! :)
Thanks sister! Passionate abt powders lately! Can't get enough of them!! Xoxo!!
Very pretty and natural looking! ❤️

Thanks so much for subscribing Brittany! Looks like we're going to get some pretty heavy rain soon. Stay dry!!
For big pores I read use powder before foundation so I got a few last one I tried was airspun, it makes me look older though! any ideas!
Excellent video! This was very helpful
Thank you! 😘

Great video Stephanie! Have you ever tried Hourglass? If so, what shade?
I mention the Hourglass in this video. :)
Ooops Sorry! I must have missed that, I'll go back, Thanks!!
I get on really well with the powders from Bare Minerals. Have you tried them?
Yes, I've talked about them in a few videos. Thank you!
Woo Hoo! I definitely have the mature skin!!
Great video, thanks love your section and reviews.
I'm loving your videos !!! Great advice every time!

Beautiful makeup look
you're so gorgeous! love your hair x
I use the MAC Mineralize Skinfinish as well and love it.
This is your first video I've seen and as you mentioned you're above 40, I was like no😮 like seriously you don't look over 40 at all😍
Thank you so much! :)
Hi, my skin shade is nc25 , could you help me with mac mineralize finishing powder shade??
I don't know what my shade.
I wear medium plus. 😘
@@StephanieMarie thanks so much, I buy it with medium plus shade and it was gorgeous,
Unfortunately, I olso buy dim light from hourglass and I don't like it.
So great to find a makeup channel for We who are over 40 in skin, but definitely under 30 in attitude 😄😄😄
Thanks so much!

Great video😊
Thank you! 😘
Another great 1!!! xo
Your face looked flawless!
Such a helpful video w/ great recommendations! Thank You!!
I love love love your video's
Thank you Debbie!
Do you feel it's ok to use a finishing powder after you use a powder foundation?
I do it sometimes and it's fine! The way I apply powder foundation, it doesn't look powdery, so a finishing powder works just fine. :)
So informative! I have the fancy balls from Guerlain 🤣 that I love to buff over my skin after my makeup is complete. I always forget the step but when I remember, it's beautiful.
Sure do hope you're nowhere near that storm!!
We're going to get some heavy rain. Keeping our fingers crossed that we don't flood! Thank you. 😘
I grade the video:
A+
I know this may sound stupid, but I always thought that the powder foundation was the finishing powder. Am I wrong???
Powder foundation has more coverage than finishing powder. :)

You look so young. Would never guess you are over 40.
Thank you so so much!
Stephanie ,I am older than you and I did not know that setting and finishing powder were not the same thing.I fell kind of dumb!
Don't feel dumb! You're definitely NOT alone!
I prefer setting spray after you powder. I'm over 40 too... Less is more.
You look 30
This did not help at all
Neither did your comment.
