      2x1=2 because 1+1=2
      1x1=1 because 1=1 it's just one, one fucking time.

      This is basic abstract algebra of groups, rings, and fields. A group is a set of elements, say {a, b, e} and binary operator that takes two of those elements, and gives you an element of the group. So for example, the additive group of numbers with 3 elements, let's use '+' as the binary operation. Here's our addition table.
      a + e = a
      b + e = b
      e + e = e
      You can clearly see that 'e' represents the additive identity, or '0'
      a + a = b
      a + b = e
      b + b = a
      You can clearly see that 'a' is '1' and 'b' is 2, and this is just addition modulo 3.
      But you can also do this for multiplication, '*', and the 'e' works out to be '1' when you create the multiplication table modulo 3.
      In short, addition and multiplication are both groups with a binary operative and an identity element. You can make them one to one. And the way you can do this with real numbers is with exponents.
      So you all know that if you multiple two numbers raised to the same power, it ads the exponents right? e.g.
      2^3 * 2^2 = 2^5, that is 8*4 = 32, or 2*2*2 * 2*2 = 2^5.
      The inverse of this is the logarithm:
      ln (2^3) = 3 ln 2
      ln (2^2) = 2 ln 2
      So if you add two logarithms:
      3 ln 2 + 2 ln 2 = 5 ln 2
      And reverse the logarithm with e^x, you get 2^5.
      That is, logarithms convert addition into multiplication.
      There is no possible way Terrence's bs makes any consistent sense.
      It's an embarrassment to have him debating someone like Eric, because I highly doubt Terrence knows what the held an isomorphism even is.

      1. 2 seperate balls of playdough can multiply and become 1 ball
      2. A person was created-another person can create an identical sculpture of that person ; or the person who will be sculpted can just sculpt themselves (cloning 1 person in a sculpture once , could be multiplying 1 by 1 )

Does anyone believe this guy could explain even basic statistics like confidence intervals, null hypotheses, what Z and T tests are (and the difference between them), and what the P value you get represents for those confidence intervals?
      Does anyone believe this guy understands imaginary numbers and why they're extremely useful when you're graphing root functions or using a unit circle?
      Does anyone even think this guy could explain a proof on why a square is a rectangle but a rectangle isn't necessarily a square?

      =ln(4) + ln(6)
      =ln(4*6)

      It's cringe when Eric speaks too because he deliberately tries to use jargon and overcomplicate things to make himself sound smarter. It's because his own mind can't process and understand all the concepts he's trying to use so he has to use labels instead of just using them with the minimum amount of fuss to get to his exact point. And because his mind is limited like that, he can't get the recognition he wants, so he dives even further into the jargon to try and get his self-esteem from that. If you want to see the difference, watch an interview with Richard Feynman, who was a Nobel Prize winning physicist, you'll see how Feynman wastes no words and simply wants to be understood.

      He says he understands the concept of having one thing one time. However, I'm pretty sure he doesn't know what the associative property is which he's referring to has the associative principle. The associative property doesn't say anything remotely close to what he asserts. So his disagreement comes from his own misunderstanding. I believe his argument is that his version of the associative principle says that if you multiply two positive integers then you're really just taking the first number and adding itself a number of times equal to the second integer. If that was true, then 1x1 would equal 2...but that's not how the associative property works. Now, if he's referring to something else, then maybe he just conflated addition and multiplication. I don't know.

      No, he's just an INTJ personality type.
      INTJ personalities' major function is Introverted Intuition (Ni). This function involves focusing on future possibilities, abstract thinking, and deep understanding through patterns and concepts. It drives INTJs to see the big picture, envision long-term goals, and make connections between seemingly unrelated ideas.
      However, this often leads to experiencing a sense of knowing something without being able to explain how they know it due to their dominant Introverted Intuition (Ni). This function allows them to unconsciously synthesize information and identify patterns, leading to insights and conclusions that can seem to come out of nowhere. This can make their knowledge appear almost intuitive or instinctive, even if the logical process behind it isn't immediately clear to them or others.
      As a fellow INTJ, this happens to me a lot, and can be rather frustrating, but it's not that we're not paying attention or anything like that.

    Terrence states that multiplication is how many times a number is added to itself. This doesn’t work for any equation let alone 1 x 1. This definition would work for 1 x 2 only if it is read as 1 added to itself 2 times. But if you read it 2 added to itself 1 time you would get 4 as the answer.
    Multiplication is actually stating how many instances of a given number there are. This is reversible for both numbers in the equation. 1 x 2 can be read as 1 instance of 2, or 2 instances of 1. Both ways of reading the equation give you an answer of 2.
    The problem with Terrence’s ideas are he created a definition that doesn’t work for any equation didn’t test it against any other equation and then says that’s why 1x1 doesn’t work.

    The number you multiply by represents how many addition steps required to find the difference number that needs to be added to the original number being multiplied by.
    If 1x9 = 9. There’s one addition step of finding the difference between 1-9.=8. And we take that diff number and add it to our multiplying number. So 1x9 is the same as 1+8
    If we multiply by 2. Then it takes 2 addition steps to find the difference we would need to add to our multiply number of 2. So if say 2x3. Then we would have to add 2+3=5. And the diff between 2 and 3 is 1. So 2x3 is the same as 2+3+1=6. If this is the law of X and + being the same. Then 1x1 would be the same as 1+0.

    @billionaeris1183 2 місяці тому +2

    I had this thought years ago, because if 1 + 1 = 2 or 1 add 1 = 2 then why does 1 multiplied by 1 not equal 2? If we are multiplying 1, 1 time then it should equal 2. The real equation to getting 1 as an answer should be 1 X 0 = 1 because you are multiplying 1 by nothing, therefore the answer remains 1. So again multiplying 1 x 1 should technically equal 2.
    And 2 x 2 should technically = 6 because if you have a single 2, then you multiply that 2 twice, that 2 would now become 6 not 4, again we would now have 3 number 2s including our initial 2, making a total of 6. If it becomes 4 like is taught conventionally, then what happened to the 2 we initially used to multiply itself twice? does it just disappear? Remember we are not adding 2 to 2 which yes would equal 4, we are multiplying or duplicating the number 2 twice, so with that we now have 3 number 2s, the one we started with and the other 2 that were duplicated or multiplied.
    Anyway i digress, the way i have overcome this is to just not say multiplied by because that word shouldn't even be used in this context for mathematics as it just confuses the situation, as we are not multiplying anything. It would makes more sense to say "2 sets of 3 = 6". "Sets of" is the word the should have used, not multiplied by. 1 set of 1 would be 1, 1 set of 2 would be 2, 2 sets of 2 would be 4 and so on.

    • @LinkCCXXIII
      @LinkCCXXIII 2 місяці тому

      Interesting, I get the logic actually. Cause if I had 2 apples, then multiplied by 4, there would be 4 "2 apple sets" multiplied like cells from the initial 2 apples(that are still there). So you'd have 5 sets of 2 apples, making it 10 apples.
      However its flawed logic unless you're calculating like cells multiplying or something else niche. There might even already be a math term for this sequence.

    • @LinkCCXXIII
      @LinkCCXXIII 2 місяці тому

      Actually just thought of the best, most simplest example. Terrance Howard is right if you say "if I had 1 cell multiply 1 time, how many cells do I have now?" It would be 2 cells, cause the second cell broke off from the first when it multiplied once.
      Though really its just changing the definition of multiply.

Is he saying that we don't need to define multiplication because we can replicate it with addition and logarithms? If that is the case, you would still need to define the logarithm, and from what I understand, you need multiplication in order to define the logarithm rigorously. Wouldn't that be circular reasoning?

    I can't believe anyone is taken in by this stuff.
    Howard starts his book with 4/2 is the inverse operation of 2*2=4, so 2/1 is the inverse of 1*1=2.
    The same algebra that yields 2*2=4 as a restatement of 4/2=2 takes 2/1=2 to 2*1=2, NOT 1*1=2.
    And the inverse of 4/2 isn't 2*2, it's 2/4. That's the inverse of 4/2.
