I am so glad I watched this video. My dog had surgeries on both legs when she was about 8 months old. She will be 16 next week. I noticed she couldn’t stand up too long. When she ate she slipped and set on the floor several times (her teeth were all removed so she eats slowly). I added chicken feet gelatin to her homemade meals for more than 1 month now. Her legs are stronger and she enjoyed running more. She no longer slips when she eats.
I've seem many recipes for bone broth ( I make it for my GSD and 4 cats )....your method is by far the simplest and quickest. Thank you so much for sharing! By the way, I also use a pressure cooker because it cuts the time and it is also, as you say, healthier! Kudos 🐾💚👣
Thank you for the helpful video Riesa and Bowie. I recently bought your book, Bowie Drools Over the Alphabet, and it's amazing. One of my dogs has food allergies, and also had a pancreatitis episode last month. Your book has us on the right track to creating her new lower fat diet. So far, we're one month out, and she's doing very well eating fresh foods. We're trying a batch of bone broth today, and it looks promising.
Awww that's amazing!!! I'm so glad to hear that your dog is doing well with fresh foods. And thank you for your lovely feedback of Bowie Drools Over the Alphabet 🥰🥰 Keep me updated with your bone broth making. Bowie's fav hydration is bone broth 🤤🐶🩷

Thanks for the recipe. I used pressure cook to cook chicken feet for one and half hours today and it was successful. I boiled the feet first though to get rid of the impurities.

How much and how often do you feed a medium to large dog 75lbs the bone stock? She 9 and I can tell she not always a 100% and she shows signs of the “leaky gut” if that is actually real thing or not. We have always struggled with her diet and have tried all kinds of different dried food food and even tried raw food. We currently are on small portion of kibble with boiled ground beef and variety of fresh fruits & veggies even pain yogurt at times. Any suggestions would be helpful.
@@1966roadster have a look at the video description for recommended feeding guidelines. You may want to research on probiotics and gut supplements to also help with leaky gut. Feeding fresh food and adding bone broth is a good start 😊🩷
So happy I found this video. Thank you for sharing. Question: @1:33 in the video mentioned histamine. Slow cooking causes histamines? Usually cook food in the oven or soup pot on cook top for 1 to 2 hours. My dog has severe allergies so I've been trying to find ways to help. Hope I'm not adding to his problems.
Thank you for your lovely feedback. To answer your question, slow cooking/roasting for hours and hours increases the histamine levels. Managing allergies needs a holistic approach, ie. remove/reduce the allergens (could be in the diet, environment etc), strengthen the body's immune system and gut health and manage it before inflammation/symptoms occurring through supportive/functional whole foods, herbal and other modalities. Have you considered getting an allergy test? It can help identify the triggers and inform the best plan moving forward to manage it. Hope these help answer your question 😊
@@masterbowie2016 thank you so much for responding and I watched the entire video. I’m new to cooking for my 15 lb poodle and was looking for a little more guidance with precise information given that I measure all her meals.
@@Msrocotito sure! Basically choose the bones from protein that your dog is not allergic to. If you use apple cider vinegar, add 2 tbsp for every kilo of the bones. Add water just enough to cover the bones (there's no specific measurements for the amount water/bone ratio). You can use slow cooker or pressure cooker. Large dense bones (like beef bones) obviously will take longer to extract than soft bones (like chicken feet). The longer you cook, generally the more gelatinous the broth will be, however the higher histamines it will also be, so just keep that in mind if your dog is prone to allergies. For feeding recommendation, have a look at the video description - I've put bone broth quantities to weights there.
Could you use the bones again and add more water? For a second batch. I have a instapot and going to be making broth this weekend. Great video by the way!
Thanks for your feedback. I normally just use the bones once as you would have extracted most of the nutrients anyway. You can however use the bones the second time around for flavouring and yummy hydration for your pups if you'd like 😊 enjoy the broth making and let me know how you go 🩷
I'm not sure where you're from but here I go to the asian fresh food market/butcher to get the raw chicken feet. Our raw pet food store also stock them.
@DreamXWeaver go to any Asian store (Hmart, Lotte Plaza, Great Wall etc), but I highly recommend Hmart. Do ensure to give the feet a good wash before cooking though.

Or too much water , so when it does that I use make a veggie melody letting it slow cook until the veggies get soft enough to mush . Anyways I admire your work , subscribing ❤️🫡
@@Chasingtails24 nice 😍😍 i do sometimes add the veggies towards the end of cooking or when I make a quick bone broth (not hours long). I use soup bones too but in a pressure cooker. Some animal bones do/gel much better in pressure cooker compared to slow cooker/crockpot I find 😊🩷
In this instance the apple cider vinegar is to help extract more nutrients from the bones. The rendered fat is not healthy for dogs. If you like to reuse it to cook for yourself, feel free to do that 😊🩷
In fridge, up to a week, freezer can be for a few months. I would portion the broth before freezing or put it in ice cube trays or one of those silicone moulds. Good luck!
The ACV (acidity) helps extract more nutrients (inc. collagen). Any vinegar/acid like lemon juice will do, though I use ACV also for its health benefits.
