I have seen few videos of Faiz festival being celebrated in Pakistan by students. It was followed by country wide student marches to demand allowing student unions to function. But I was amazed to see disapproval by large number of people. This is my response to them : Going through the comments ( English only, as I can't read Urdu ) it is overwhelmingly felt that there is a .deep mistrust, contempt and apathy for this group of young men. The reasons for such a rejection of ideas are vague and extremely subjective. Some people Don't like them because they are rich brats ! Others think think that this outfit is rechristened brand of PTM which is being hated for their so called anti establishment stance. University students getting passionate for a movement to eradicate social inequalities, gender discrimination,, ills of investment capitalism is in fact a boon for any society or country . Whatever role they play in future, be it of a government servant, social worker or politician, they would be doing it with responsibility and commitment ! Further they inspire the upcoming student generations. Their expression of ideology creatively through music, sloganeering in rhythm, painting is indeed praiseworthy ! Off course no Government/ Establishment would like such groups ( for obvious reasons ) but common people ( the one who are making comments and watching this video or watching the groups on ground ) can support or sympathise them or at least remain neutral. But there is absolutely no reason to criticize them. About student unions being allowed to be functional on campuses , a blanket ban is always detrimental to the society, students and nation as a whole. In India they are often banned whenever there are incidence of violence, but ban is lifted once the situation is normal ! There is one more disadvantage, that is political parties enter the campus and try to overpower student unions ! There are several instances of student union leaders making into politics and becoming Chief Minister / minister in several States and in union cabinet. Well with all the drawbacks also Union Activities should be allowed on campuses.
@bhaskar we also need to work really hard to reduce decade of brain washing by establishment in comon folk about inqilab zindabad .Sooner or later faiz will be our legend instead of dictator zia ul Haq
