The split screen with the old guy was hilarious...until I realized im closer in age to him than you. Damn it. Bret riding the hippie fling. Such an awesome board. A juvenile great white breached out at seaside a few months ago and sent us packing. That was the first time I had ever seen a shark out there too.

My buddies and I surfed that area on weekend trips all throughout high school and into my 20's. It doesn't break like it did in the late 90's, early 2000's. I have memories of watching wrap around swell come around the point and riding left lines that could take you to frisco. 50ft paddle out over a trough and then you hit the bar. Easiest surf spot to spend all day. You could stand and push into the waves if you arms were tired after a long day.
We've had four shark deaths in the last three months. Three of the spots I surf regularly, including Greenmount. The Greenmount attack was just a few days ago. Greenmount is part of the famed 'Superbank', one of the most crowded waves on the planet. Condolences to all the victims and their friends and family.
I surfed the point just a little south of where you were in 1970 right after a hurricane. Wind was straight offshore with lines of waves with 6-8 foot faces water was like glass. Best waves I have ever surged. Had a 6’8” Bahne. Next day we surged where you are it was still pretty glassy but the swell was much smaller but still really good. Incredible trip.🤙🤙🤙

Few years ago I was surf fishing early in the morning in Atlantic Beach, NC the fish were blitzing like crazy and I saw a nice size shark right in the beach break about 10 feet in front of me. I didn’t realize what I saw and didn’t believe it until I asked a guy at the tackle shop and he said oh yeah there’s definitely sharks all over these beaches. I mean makes sense it is their home.

The shortest distance between two points is how Ben cooks eggs. The last time I spent a week in OBX, was the week after labor day and the weather was mostly terrible.
I could tell you hadn't seen many sharks cause you were sitting on your board while Barley was laying on his with his feet and hands out of the water , I STILL do that since the 80s learning to surf in Florida with sharks all around. Your hands and feet have heartbeat pulse points that attract sharks etc keep them up in sharky waters.
