I would have liked to hear more synthesis. I remember playing a 61-key semi-weighted Kurzweil keyboard 10-20 years ago and the quality, polyphony, complexity and nuance of the synth sound were incredible; levels above anything by Roland, Yamaha, Korg, Casio, Kawai et al. The sounds were expressive and infinitely playable, as if they had been designed by a player as well as a programmer. It used to puzzle me why keyboard manufacturers were concentrating on more and more realistic emulations of real instruments. I mean, I appreciate a portable grand piano, Fender Rhodes, Hammond organ and orchestral accompaniment and, I guess, if one is writing full arrangements, all the other hyper-realistic solo instruments are handy. However, nothing will ever compare to real instruments, especially solo instruments. I would rather record a real bass, guitar and brass, and drums if possible. However, if one looks at the preset names of the early synthesizers, it becomes clear that the programmers were always trying to emulate real instruments, but the technological limits actually created entirely new instruments. There was no option to focus on realistic instruments, hence the creativity went into original synth sounds. If one compares the patches on an old Oberheim, Sequential Circuits, Moog, Arp, Yamaha etc. with today's synth patches, I think one will notice that today's patches are less designed for performance and more for instant sonic effect, less for players and more for producers. The Kurzweil K2700 is so powerful it should be demonstrating the absolute pinnacle of synthesis types and performance. Every Roland drum machine is opinionated and has effectively been the backdrop to every musical era for decades. Kurzweil should be matching this in opinionated synthesis for the performer. It's not enough to just regurgitate the same inoffensive pads and leads.
I've now had my K2700 for approximately 6 weeks. If it's synthesis you're in then sit down, strap in, and prepare for the latest version of V.A.S.T.. It's not for the synthesis newbie. It's complex and, from what I can tell thus far, limitless. Nothing else is even close.

Tony, excellent demo. In your personal opinion, do you think the 2700 could hang with or replace a Kronos for live performance? I make huge layers and use scene switching and such and I am quite used to the awesome set list mode. Thanks again.
Great instrument, great demo. But, what striked me immediately, is that the piano sound doesn‘t open up as I‘d expect it when playing loud. The low volume sound is really good and rich, but the louder sound remains strangely restrained, sort of boxy. I know that this is subtle, and some guys would call me names, how I come to criticize a Kurzweil, but I do not experience this for example with the top Yamaha synth workstations.
I find Yamaha to certainly have a much brighter tone in their workstations, which suits itself better to the kinds of music I compose, but Kurz sounds have their own uses as well.
While demonstrating the sequencer / song mode, he mentions that you can export your sequence to your daw. I have not found how you would do this other than recording playback into daw. Saving to thumb drive does not generate .mid file, just .k27 files. Ideas?? Or, was he just speculating?
Great presentation. Would you be willing to show how to add effects to the sounds when they are split, layered or put into a sequence. I noticed the effects are not present when taken out of the original program mode.
I've owned Kurzweil's my whole life. Always super happy with them. This one looks amazing but you gotta tell me how do these companies survive in this day and age of software synths and modeling that offers incredible flexibility and constant upgrades as well. . How many people are buying these very expensive workstations anymore and how do these companies survive? I'd love one...but why??
Same reason hundreds of guitar manufacturers can survive in a market with a lot of competition. People like buying nice things! Musical instrument purchases are almost never based on being rational.
I asked them to consider following Korg and Roland's example, digitally archiving their old hardware as VST plugins. Ray Kurzweil is one of the leaders of digitally preserving human life, I bet he would advocate for making software if he was still running everything.
Those virtual instruments are amazing, especially in the studio. For playing live they’re good, but can be cumbersome in some ways. With tens of thousands of sounds across who knows how many different plugins, it’s difficult to navigate spontaneously on your laptop if you want a patch on a plugin that wasn’t already loaded. By the time you do all that, you’ve missed your moment. Not to mention the amount of ram and cpu you’d have to eat up to load dozens of ‘just in case you get some spontaneous inspiration’ plugins. It’s way more simple and immediate when you’re playing a hardware synth for those situations. Lots of people just always preferred hardware workstations. If the sales were down that much, these companies wouldn’t waste their time and money developing them.
@@damonbennett5911 totally agree. Just wondering if sales are good enough to support all these workstations on the market. I suppose so or they wouldn't keep releasing them.
I've been waiting over a year. I do understand the events of the world (truly), but other companies (Roland) are figuring it out. Roland just released their new Fantom family of keyboards and those boards are already showing up in the stores (U.S.). Come on Kurzweil!
I see some of the differences with this keyboard and the Pc4 why would you choose the K2700 over the Pc4. The K2700 is a heavy synth. Why would you choose it over Pc4 would like to know thanks.
If their isn't a looping feature. Then you should be able to copy, and paste in the Sequencer. And how many measures does it have that you can record up to?
With equipment like this why do i see so many players bit the living daylights out of a keyboard when played normally it does the sound justice when played with so care as to the music itself. I have an older keyboard by Kurzweil a PC7 that has a lifetime of sound if treated with respect plus it keeps the keyboard in tip top condition. There is so much work gone into building these that to me they are something to respect and with the opsional tower programme there are thousands of sounds at your finger tips. I use a sigle post support that have V shaped base to it so it allows for a much beter positioning of an over the top keyboard which gives a lot more room for changing hands plus all the cables can run down the tubular structure for tidy looking stage use plus offer the best support to both keyboards. I have looked and kistened to this keyboard and although way out of my ability to buy, has certainly gone onto my lotto wish list! Really is great bit od gear to have!!!!!!

Hi Tony, great demonstration. Can you please tell me what expression pedal you are using in this video? Thanks
I see some of the differences with this keyboard and the Pc4 why would you choose the K2700 over the Pc4. The K2700 is a heavy synth. Why would you choose it over Pc4 would like to know thanks.
Does it have a digital recorder.
Please, where are the speakers or would I have to get them?-how much are the speakers?
You need speakers. You could find a good pair for like 300 I think. I rokit 5 sounds great. Maybe 200 for both used
If their isn't a looping feature. Then you should be able to copy, and paste in the Sequencer. And how many measures does it have that you can record up to?
I had the PC3
How does this compare to the PC4 ?
Nice video. Good keyboard to
Esse som de Piano é surreal
Mr Tony.. do you think kurzweil will give us 61 key, like the previous pck3a61?are you in the know?may I have a response, please 🥺?
Anyone got their Fatar TP40L with its lower keys stiffer than the right octave's keys? Any guess as to why this is even happening?
Great review and a keyboard. Do you have a chance to review a tier down though quite impressive by specs keyboard, MEDELI AKX10?
Great Video, which would you recommend, the PC4 or 2700, or are they the same. Thanks
With equipment like this why do i see so many players bit the living daylights out of a keyboard when played normally it does the sound justice when played with so care as to the music itself.
I have an older keyboard by Kurzweil a PC7
that has a lifetime of sound if treated with respect plus it keeps the keyboard in tip top condition.
