When I first seen this movie in my mom's dvds I didn't know what to think because I didn't see the trailer but then I watched it and it was so amazing.

I remember going to see this and thinking, what am I doing here this is gonna be a terrible film. I figured I'd get some sleep at the very least.........turns out I was wrong. It was an absolutely brilliant film. Funny, sharp, self depreciating, warm and clever.
Those quick shots of Drew toward the end of the trailer are magic! She is so beautiful!
Drew: it's wonderfully sensitive, especially coming from a man who wear such tight pants.
Hug: it forces all the blood to my heart!

Tonight I watched for the first time since 2008
such a beautiful movie
I looked for this movie without knowing the title - because the building Hugh Grant's character lived in was on 72nd & Broadway, very close to where I lived. I saw the building going up and passed it all the time.

That's the first time I've seen a movie about making a hit song actually make a hit song.
I remember watching a bootleg copy of this when I was in Iraq...god I'm old.
The movie was cheesy and cliched to all hell, but Grant and Barrymore both provided a light hearted vibe for the movie. I was entertained enough while watching it, but I've never rewatched it.
My girlfriend recently showed me this movie and I enjoyed it! At one point of the movie, I told her.... “did the creators of the show Austin and Ally get the idea from this movie?” Lol great movie! :-)

Nali Gator You get to see commercial for the film where some old male plast-star gets an offer from some younger female plast-star (Barbie cliché) who can´t write her own lyrics, but thinks she needs a man to decide what she should sing! Oh, and you get to see how the old male plast-star uses some other girl, who´s better than him at writing Real good lyrics and how he´s taking all the credit for her work, up there singing with female plast-star, wich is offcourse how romantic? The trailer makes the film look worth watching, even?!! No, not to me. It looks like SOME unoriginal, unequal, predictable and boring shit-film from this trailer..!
Some corrections: the young singer is a pop star who heard his 80's one hit wonder and asked him to write a song for her. His maid, Drew Barrymore, fills in the blanks when he is having writer's block, and he begs her to help write the song. the conflict was when the pop star changes the arrangement of the song to sex it up. He sells out, Drew (forgot the character's name) gets upset, but reconcile at the end (2:00) when she finds out the song wasn't changed.
Not telling anyone to go watch the movie. I make assumptions of trailers all the time. I tend to avoid rom-coms, but this one surprised me once I gave it a chance. :)

Fletcher is 46/47 and Fisher is 31/32 in the movie. 15 years have passed since Fletcher broke up with his bandmate and lyricist (Colin) because this guy Colin was convinced by someone that he was the real genius of the band. Fletcher is able to create wonderful and beautiful melodies but he has problems writing lyrics. Also, Fletcher is a multi-instrumentalist. Then he gets engaged to a writer and potential lyricist. After that, they continue happily as a family and collaborating in creating songs... I don't know but it reminds me of a real musician, Fletcher is just not divorced and he plays pop not progrock.

Doesn't the character of Cora resemble Taylor Swift as well? I know this movie was released just as her music career was taking off, particularly in country music, but it seems Cora selling out Madison Square Garden, and especially the "I recently broke up with my boyfriend. We'd been together for almost 2 months" quote in the beginning of the movie, sounds a lot like Taylor's own very public life... does anyone else agree?
I admit that she looks like Taylor but this movie released at 2006 when Taylor just to begin her musical career, and it's just pure coincidence anyway

She knew the band's name because her sister was a fan not necessarily what the band members look like per se. And he had shorter hair and was dressed a lot different than he was in the band. But then when she said it she realized he was a member.
