The ledge under the Cape Ann house addition is extensive. After several days of hammering, Charlie Silva has decided to pin the footings for the mudroom and garage to the rock. Tom Silva gives him a hand drilling rock for rebar and scribing the forms.

Please clarify, below frost in bedrock. I completely agree with the epoxy detail. There is nothing about the evacuation of dust when you drilled the holes.
It’s going to look good
Jen and Charlie are my two favorites on TOH
Look thru the window behind them @ 1:39 forward. Someone sweeping then breaks the broom over his knee. Strange. Was that on TV or real thing time?
Look closer. Wasn't sweeping, just moving lumber against the wall and broke a stick over his knee to make it smaller for the garbage pile - no broom head attached to either end.
Not a broom unfortunately lol
Hilarious!!!
Your suppose to brush and blow the hole out before epoxy and rebar after you drill
Well you should have shown the whole foundation pour.
You must be new here :))
@@rpriesol dont you just hate ut when they do that though! never gets old
@@jomangeee Yea, it is realy silly, but I believe they do it on purpose... Maybe youtube is their trial channel and then on their paid website they show always results :)
@@rpriesol yeah. they want you to pay for the episode on their website
@@rpriesol lmaooo
Won't that Rebar embedded in the rock eventually rust out as it's possible for moisture to get inbetween the rock and the concrete?
All untreated rebar will rust in concrete eventually.
This is a major, known problem that has been over-looked for a century. Only in the last ten years have builders finally applied rust-inhibiting paint to rebar.
They make an epoxy coated rebar that should be used in the pinning process. Also you should wrap your metal strapping all the way around your footing
I wish TOH would show the completed project. Very un-satisfying video!
Then don’t watch the videos.
This is part of a series. They build the whole house over the course of a season.
If u did the project urself then maybe u could c the completed job. Get working my dude!!
JOHN LEBZELTER one was expecting to see the job finished, that’s all.
because they want us to pay of it on their site.
What type of drill bit for the ledge drilling?
4:15 looks like a state job.....one guy working, and three guys watching.
I know these are just short clips from a full episode, but it would be nice if they took 30 seconds to give us an overview with a plot map or similar so we can get the visual of how this is laid out. I mean, it's a garage and I don't see a driveway. I also can't envision the driveway location given the slope on the 2 sides we can see.
Drill and don't blast but use 'non-detonating cartridges' eg Autostem. You could also use expanding grout... Surprised these methods were not at least mentioned even if they don't suit this particular job...
Should hammer out the granite in steps for the elevation drop. You don't pour footings on a sloped surface, only level steps for elevation change.
Aaand it's winter
She says, “hammer me baby!”
What happened to all that granite?
@ 1:55 guy touches hydraulic line is a big no no.
1:41 Background man is not happy with the length of their stick
"this bedrock is clearly in the wrong place"
Nope. That house is clearly in the wrong place.
Nope, The house is in the right place. The new garage is in the wrong place.
The hole really should have been blown out to remove the dust from the drilling....
Good to see Willy Nelson back in show biz. Didn’t know he could drive an excavator!
Operate *
they shoulda had Chuck Norris instead, he would have just moved the ledge for them.
I can tell you that the epoxy sets in the mixing chamber when it's more than 95 degrees outside.
Depends on the type. There are epoxies designed for applications in high temperature. But you’re right, especially if a quick-cure is used.
@@The13point1 It was an expensive lesson.
More like how to prep a footing. Didn't show anything
That footing is well done
Someone should show the owners how to power wash the exterior of the home.
I was looking for this comment lol
1:40 look at the guy inside the house
#BOJACKSON
Nice snapping bats
That person looks like tom
It's his brother
It's his uncle.
it's his twin brother Tim
Escavator. Expresso.
This guy could replace Kevin lol
Charlie is Tom Silva's brother.
@@TheCatMangHe is Tom Silvas nephew ;-)
Not really, but in few years he could do that with enough experience.... Kevin is great.
👍🏻👍🏻

Resevwah.
The epoxy seems like overkill; just drives up costs.
They should have left that rock alone. All that for a garage? Is this for Mitt Romney?
Save the rocks!
Right? I would kill to own such a big beautiful stone.
Resi -voiahh.
They’re using the wrong type of concrete. They should be using the fiberglass infused concrete cause it’s so much stronger than using the rebar to strengthen ordinary concrete.
