Would love to have seen a “how to” video! This is so amazing!!! I wish I were this creative! I’m here on UA-cam looking for an instructional video on how to make my Hummers the perfect bath. Yours is absolutely stunning! Thanks for sharing!
Sorry Shanta, I just saw your message. I really didn't think about a how to when putting it together. Mostly just started playing with rocks and mortar and this is the way it turned out. I've changed several plants since this video and it's more colorful now with a bonsai tree on top of the waterfall.
What a great little sanctuary you've provided for these cute little feathered gems. I've been in the avian field now for nearly 30yrs. Having "hands on" experience with everything from Warblers to Birds of Prey and Budgies to Macaws. So i love it when people get "creative" in helping out our feathered friends. GREAT JOB...!!!
Thanks, we love watching them. Today there must have been 40 or 45 floating around. It's free standing and can be taken in during winter and it is right up against the window in the living room. It's a great show all day long and we can watch without spooking them from anywhere in the room including getting right up to the glass.
This is just precious, I love watching the hummingbirds come to my porch, they’re so sweet and just beautiful. Thank you for sharing your video , pictures, audio everything is just amazing. Would love for you to share how you made their bath, I’m wanting to make one and currently getting ideas. Thank you Kelli
Hi kelli, sorry it took me so long to reply, I just saw your comment. We love them too and to be really honest, I just started with a bag of mortar and started making the different fountains. It's certainty not hard or require any skill or I couldn't have done it.
We love them too and we only have about 10 this year. We think we scared them away feeding Orioles this spring, we may not feed the Orioles next year since they take off after a couple weeks.
Actually this is the second year we've used this one. Before we made this we just had feeders hanging over the window. Sometimes I've questioned if the same birds find the same feeder but this year before we put it up birds were hovering at the window so we set it up before formal complaints were filed.
Hi Melinda, I agree with Shanta it would be nice to see how you put in the three little waterfalls. I can see most of the trees are for aquariums and look amazing. You can tell you used some nice rocks too. what type of water pump did you use?
I used a 920GPH Submersible Water Pump from amazon, and it was really to small. Wish I had gotten one a bit larger, it's running at full capacity in the video. Yep, the trees are all aquarium plastic plants and last year we changed several of them to more bird friendly colors. The bonsai tree on the waterfall is really cool. Seriously though all I did was sit down with river rocks and mortar and just shaped it out with the space available on the platform (which was sized to fit the living room side window). I was really just plain lucky that the water traveled in the right direction.
Beautiful! Thank you for sharing with us!! I'm just getting started with 3 hummingbirds this past summer...now I've got to figure out how to keep the ants away from the 1 feeder & expand to several feeders..then comes the bird bath! I have 1 that comes right up & looks for me in the door...or comes right up to me when I'm just sitting out on the steps...like it just wants to say hi...
There great fun. To keep ants down I spray the legs of the feeder with spray. It's got to be done sometimes weekly but it's the only thing I've found so far that works. Enjoy.
@@MelindaGrider Thank you for taking the time to respond...I'm not sure what I should use as to not harm the hummingbirds..I've rubbed a bar of soap on the legs..it works somewhat..I just don't want their little feet touching anything that may be harmful..I'll look it up tho b4 they come back next season. I'm in South Carolina on the east coast..so they've already migrated...🙏🦋
@@azinfandellvr the ants have to migrate to the feeder from somewhere. I have found that a little smear of Vaseline all the was around the chain, the hook, or whatever is very effective and lasts. Not on the perches of course, just in the path of the ants.
We put up 3 new bird feeders and a feeding tray that the other birds are going crazy over. So many different kinds have shown up this year. The new community is about 10 ft from the hummers and they don't mind at all.
@@MelindaGrider ok thanks, I've been wanting to get one but I was worried about that. I didn't know if you put decals or something on the window to keep them from hitting it.
That's a sneeze guard, so to speak. These guys are really cute but they regularly "relieve" themselves just as they are landing. The guard is between the feeders and the bath to keep it and the water clean.
They do that, sometimes I want to grab one and say "stop being so mean, there's plenty here". I think I've learned that adding another feeder kind of stops that a little. When I have all 5 feeders up they don't seem to be as defensive.
Males are territorial. They'll chase each other off. We put up several, at least, 7-8 feet apart, and it worked out better. I would like to see a how-to on how to make that feeder you got there. That's awesome!!!
Just watch this other video at the link below. And that should answer your question quite thoroughly. Happy birding...:) ua-cam.com/video/-vsXFH0YbZE/v-deo.html
As a friendly suggestion. You might want to remove the purple plants and a few green ones as well. And replace them with different hues of red instead. That may just bring them in to use your great little sanctuary even more...!!! Great job though and happy birding...:)
I was going for a more natural look at first and then it just became a decor thing. My mistake knowing they like red. Good news is they have faded enough I've got a good reason the change them. Thanks for the suggestion.
You need more feeders. There are birds waiting in the queue, but get chased off. I think they are teritorial. I wish I had that many lovely hummers. I have 1 or 2. Right before dusk she stops by for a top off b4 bed I think.
Your right, this time of year until they go south it really starts getting crowded. You know how there seems to be a single bird that chases most of the others away (stingy little brat) but with this set up you almost never see it. Everybody gets in for a sip. It's really cool. I do play to expand a bit more I just haven't figured out how to be able to see them from inside the house. That's the best part, watching without disturbing them from anywhere in the living room.

Oh my gosh this is what I want outside my window for my hummingbirds. It's so neat!!! I wish there was a how to

Love your water feature!! I like your choice of feeders too. I’ve not seen that brand/model. Great setup.
Thanks Sherry, we got the feeders from Amazon, I think they were about $12 for pack of 2.

Thanks Shelley.
Awesome!!!!👍

Beautiful. I'm curious do you have problems with the feeders being so close to the windows and the birds running into the glass?
Thanks Kat. No they don't hit the window, we were worried at first that may happen but after 8 years not a single time.

What is the red framed thing under the bird feeders at the beginning or is this a reflection?

I have always been taught to NEVER put their feeders within 15 feet of any window as they can get confused about the reflections and hit the window?
I was concerned about that too but the birds have had no problems at all.

Siliconed Plexiglas
