Beautiful ship. Doesn’t look like some cheap replica. Though I thought most galleons would have had a more ornate stern. Hard to believe Spain at one time had the most powerful navy in the world
Why waste a shipbuilders time making an ornate stern, when he could start a new ship

Agree...the music is a terrible choice and waaaaaaay too loud.
Questions.. Why do this modern times tall ships make port without sails? Is it even legal to do so(no engine on)? I know they must have engines. Is just beacause it's much easier and they'd need a trained crew? How did they do it centuries ago? What if the wind was not right? Were they not able to port?
Boats can sail without an engine, they do it for aerodynamics, that's why they had anchors so they wouldn't escape, it sounds comical but it's like that
theres a galleon in spain that have portuguese flag which one is it?
Whats the name of song at 12:23? Ive heard this so many times before and forgot the name lol awesome video!!

Thank you Mark for your comment. In real life it is a beauty. I was so glad to be able to go aboard & meet everyone.
Does this vessel have engines? It moved into port under no sail, and I didn't see any tug boats.
Thank you Aethgeir for your question. It did have a motor. I am not sure of the size or power. I did not think of asking that question. Thank you for watching this video.
@@OurTownShowAmesbury Well, thank you for uploading it! I had not heard of this particular ship. I would've loved to see it up close myself.
I asked because there is another replica Spanish Galleon (albeit of a slightly later period) in Italy, called the Neptune. Apparently, it was built for some pirate movie, and while it's an accurate replica above the waterline, below it has a steel hull and engines, so I was curious if this vessel was something similar.
@@Aethgeir it has engines that are usable for docking but nothing else, you would burn then and basically not move at all in the open ocean...
@@Aethgeir Hello in these video you can see the construction in Punta Umbria (Huelva).
ua-cam.com/video/IxzRroQTCa8/v-deo.html&ab_channel=AINSProducciones
wait how did she move while the sails is not set?
They have a motor & use it when needed.
Where'd them there sailors take a crap?
Must be nice to have a motor when docking the boat. Even with that well beyond my skills. Just thinking back when sailing ships had no motor. The skills of the captains are beyond my comprehension. Have we lost something or is it just that in our modern world it is no issue and the skills are still somewhere hidden in us.
In reality, not all big ships can be docked. Most of them just anchored away from pier. They carried the cargo to land using smaller boats.
@@cicak2404 I heard that rudder boats also dragged the bigger ships into port.
you are certainly not taking into calculations the harbours they need to maneuvre in of the now-a-days times.
Nowadays it is mandatory that boats have a motor, if the boat does not have it, it is not allowed to sail, it is an international maritime safety law
i would like to have a mini galleon,maybe 30 tons ..45 ' lenght 17 ' beam
did'nt know they had inboard engines
Top bad it is motor powered
how come this ship is moving ??
It does have a motor to use when needed.

A real galleon or better known as man o war ships were much larger and had 63 to 68 cannons either side that ship my friend looks to be a large type of schooner or small brigantine also galleons had six to eight sails this ship has three sails and 8 or 9 cannons either side

The large, slow, and lumbering ships that England and Dutch plundered!
You know nothing, do you?
From Wikipedia:
" Despite the general perception that many Spanish galleons were captured by foreign privateers, few fleets were actually lost to enemies in the course of the flota's two and a half centuries of operation. Only the Dutch admiral Piet Hein managed to capture an entire fleet, in the Battle in the Bay of Matanzas in 1628, after which its cargo was taken to the Dutch Republic.[25] The English admiral Robert Blake twice attacked the fleet, in the Battle of Cádiz in 1656 and in the Battle of Santa Cruz de Tenerife in 1657, but he managed to capture only a single galleon and Spanish officers saved most of the silver.[26] The West Indies fleet was destroyed in the Battle of Vigo Bay in 1702 during the War of the Spanish Succession, when it was surprised in port unloading its goods, but the Spanish sailors had already unloaded most of its cargo.[27] None of these attacks took place in open seas. In the case of the Manila galleons, only four were ever captured by British warships in nearly three centuries: the Santa Anna by Thomas Cavendish in 1589, the Encarnación by Woodes Rogers in 1709, the Covadonga by George Anson in 1743, and the Santísima Trinidad in 1762. Two other British attempts were foiled by the Rosario in 1704 and the Begonia in 1710.[28] These losses and others due to hurricanes were significant economic blows to trade."
@@El_Carrito_del_Helao I think we are looking at this differently. And, I'm not going to insult you by saying you know nothing, we can discuss without the attacks, can't we? Of coarse many Spanish galleon made it to their destination . In the vast millions of miles of ocean, absolutely! It's a fact that Drake, Morgan, Raleigh (just to name a few) had great success capturing Galleons they encountered.. Mid to late 1600's it's reported that on average as much as 500 tons of plunder was arriving in Britain annually. Much of it from costal raids, some from taken ships. "The Spanish king put a massive price on Drake's head. From 1570 until the end of his life, Drake made himself the scourge of the Spanish by leading repeated raids against their treasure ships and colonies in the New World. Also, in addition to taking ships when possible they raided coastal town". Your Wikipedia article says : Dutch admiral Piet Hein managed to capture an entire fleet, in the Battle in the Bay of Matanzas in 1628? The success of English ships is proven against Spanish Galleons in the attack on Britain during Elizabeth I reign and the war with Spain during Cromwell's war with Spain. English, Dutch, and French sea power over Spain causing them to lose hold on being the dominate force in the world by the late 17th century, falling by the way side as the other became world super powers. And, Wikipedia is not considered a factual site to reference on historical events. You focus on how many were taken, I speak of success when encountered by foreign Privateers. A large slow Spanish Galleon laden with cargo was at a huge disadvantage against smaller, faster unladen attacker. Many fleets were left alone that were guarded ay escorts. It was the lone vessel that was targeted, obviously a single privateer could not take on a fleet. I look forward to your reply.
@@pher35 The success of the “Flota de Indias”, the annual convoy that crossed the Atlantic from the Americas to Spain is almost universally recognized as a logistic miracle, which was later copied by other maritime powers by the way.
Indeed a miracle: In 250 years only three convoys were lost to attacks by rival nations (in 1657, 1702 and 1804).
"In the vast millions of miles of ocean", this is funny, you really haven’t a clue about navigation, have you? Just two words: Prevailing winds.
More documented evidence: Out of the roughly 11000 Spanish ships that crossed the Atlantic between 1540 and 1650, pirates captured barely 100, most of them rather modest merchants.
More stunning data: It is known that between 1548 and 1555, out of 540 ships only 2 were captured by pirates and 2 more sank during the journey.
Only Drake was somewhat successful but he mostly attacked isolated ships and coastal cities just because he had no chance against the “Fleet of Indias".
On the other hand, the amount of times that the attackers were defeated and captured by Spanish armadas is uncountable, although this fact was always carefully hidden by the propaganda of the attacking countries, mostly England.
By the way, you surely know how Hawkins and Drake both died: defeated repeatedly by much smaller Spanish forces, miserable and sick.
All this data clearly shows that your assertion of slow, lumbering galleons being plundered by England and the Netherlands is plainly false.
You really need to read more from independent, objective sources, dude.
and plundered them too
Sad a fully rigged galleon, under way by a motor
According to law, ships hav ti get into the harbours using the motor. But the sails work ourside
@@ortocentercentrodeortopedi5378 Fair enough, I stand corrected. Thank you. I should have figured that. I meant that they are much more beautiful under sail.
