  • Welcome back to the Metal Detecting NYC channel, let's learn how to metal detect! I had the opportunity to metal detect on a permission that Jeff set up. This dirt is older than America and is loaded with iron and treasure, so Jeff and I ended up with some great metal detecting finds. Also, I experimented with features on the XP Deus 2 that mitigate the effects of iron. The result was that I was able to hear a clear difference between ferrous and non-ferrous metal detecting signals. Hope these metal detecting tips and tricks and the understanding of the iron amplitude rejection will help distinguish pitch tones and get more information on the size or the depth of the item. Hi, my name is Merrill Kazanjian. New York City is an amazing place to go metal detecting. We have lots of parks, colonial history and great beaches for beach detecting. I have gone to all five boroughs of New York City To Metal Detect and beyond. I also currently own 22 metal detectors. I want to have the best and I want to help you choose the best as well. You have taught me so much about metal detecting even though I have been in it for 30 years. My first detector was a Whites XLT which has paid for itself 10x. I now have a brand new Excalibur and only have tones, no VDI numbers on the screen. My hearing is horrible because of using extremely loud tools throughout my career without ear protection. I’m going to have to say THANK YOU FOR YOUR CHANNEL!!! I’ve systematically scoured the beaches where I live but now I’m able to put on my waders and get into the water up to my chest. My finds have doubled in a very short time. My best finds with the XLT are an 1832 bust half in almost uncirculated condition and a 1772 half reale, which I donated to the Little Compton historic society some years ago. Now I’m finding some really nice jewelry.

Disc IAR is a great feature, it works on the signal intensity from Iron.
1 Rejects high intensity iron signals
5 Rejects lower intensity iron signals.
Sometimes I use it to identify misshaped iron as it can perform better than conventional disc modes modes.

I understand but I hope that you understand that I paid more than $15000 to own and use 23 detectors. It taught me that there are capability differences and I chose the opportunity to master my favorite detector (and whatever else is in the pipeline) and develop my knowledge with the XP team and earn a salary for it. I’m more excited to follow this path.

It amazes me how many nails/random junk end up in the middle of a field 😅. There are a couple civil war battlefields by me, so if I could find some camp locations or just old undisturbed locations, that would be awesome. They run the same reactivity, silencer but a slightly higher sensitivity 95 on the D2 than the 90 on the D1. Both are intended to be programs that are plug and play for any user.

Oh I am so on it. I’ve taken a small hiatus (only one long format video this month) to focus on my own learning. Once I get my knowledge where I need it to be I have a lot of content that I want to release including a video for absolute beginners.

I mean since we're getting technical. Is all dirt older than the US or the components of dirt? I can take clay, sand, and compost and make dirt (soil). It's all star dust, but what we do with it later may change according to the user.

Believe me I get it but it’s impossible because a zinc penny alone (as it corrodes) has a wide range of id’s. And if you decide to notch that range out you miss out on the chunkiest gold rings!

@@MetalDetectingNYC I know! But it was worth a shot! Just got back from the Miami Area and the locals totally pass them up to the point of 200 stinkers in a 1/4 mile stretch! All of south east Florida is the same. They either notch or ignore! Drives me crazy along with the millions of pull tabs and bottle caps they leave behind as well. They are cherrie pickers! It like hunting in your dump on the river with the queen of mean! Lol

      But seriously something
They can. Do is make the new black cable about 1’ longer! They went from too long by a mile to too short by a foot! For those of us that extend the shaft as far as it will go it comes up short! And for those of us over 6’ that have had to buy a mod to make the machine longer the black cable is just not cutting it! Do they not try their products before making them? Or is everyone at the R&D 5’5?

iar = irrational algorithmic redundance or in plane speak gobbledygook. 😵‍💫. How about we just go detecting and have the machine just knock out the iron. 😄. My old Minelab Explorer II was fantastic on rejecting iron but because it detected right across the coil if a none ferrous item was on or near iron that target was rejected also 😬but bare in mind that machine had 20 year old technology in it. 😛. We now have modern technology which is far superior on rejecting iron compared to all that time ago. We now have narrow signals that can get in amongst the iron for those little none ferrous targets ie the Minelab Equinox series. 😀. P.s. In my metal detecting club the machine that found the most hammered coins this year was a Minelab and that was used by a complete novice Equinox user. 🤗. The Deus users spent more time downloading new programs and trying to work out which iar setting to use. Lol. 😆. HH from across the pond. 🙂.
