    Today we will talk about the half swing.
    Once you have correct mechanics for the half swing, you are on the right path to making a beautiful full swing. Because if this reason, I cannot emphasize enough on really getting your half swing down!
    I will be talking about 5 things today:
    1. L to L
    2. Hand position
    3. Knee position
    4. Hinging
    5. Drill
    It is important to understand the concept & the why you have to do certain movements, so if you have any questions or concerns please ask me at

    Aimee I think you are a great coach. My 10 year old daughter has just started taking up golf and I cant wait for her to watch these videos but they are going to help me alot aswell. I have watched lots of coaches on youtube and had lots of lessons and I can honestly say you are up there with the best in terms of simplifying the golf swing.

    My first PGA professional said golf is a game of position. Love the parameters you offer to have the hands positioned properly to setup for hinging in relation to tempo. You tied it all together, mechanics and tempo, to unify the two major aspects of the golf swing. Thanks.

    Hi Aimee, awesome lesson. Just few quick questions, when doing half swing, do you rotate your wrist from up swing to down swing? What does release mean? when do you release the hinge? Thanks!

    • @mikemottonen7230
      @mikemottonen7230 4 роки тому

      I know this is an old comment but I think I can answer some of this. The wrists rotate all the way through the swing. If you watch closely and focus on just the right hand you can see at the top of the backswing her palm will be facing roughly in your direction while at the finish point the palm will be facing away, with a gradual turn all the way through. It will also be lined up as if you are hitting the ball with your hand at impact. to get a feel for this motion you can take your club and swing it slowly with your hands apart like it's a hockey stick, then gradually bring them closer together every few swings.
      Release is a tricky question because different people tend to mean different things when they say release. Basically your club lags behind your hands on the way down and at some point toward the bottom your hands/arms slow down and the club whips through, passing your hands. It's hard to explain how this works through writing and there are different ways to do it. The feeling I personally try to have is that my right hand is slapping the ball in line with the club face, left hand is pulling the handle in toward me and the elbows rotate over each other through impact. Hope this helps and remember there are many ways to swing a club and even more ways to think about it. What works for me might not be the best thing for you.

  • @mikemottonen7230
    @mikemottonen7230 4 роки тому

    Great video. Good amount of depth without overloading on information. I have a question about the wrist hinge. Here you are saying to actively put the club into the L position by pressing down with the palms. I find that if I just don't control the hinging motions and let my wrists go limp, at least in the direction of ulnar/radial deviation on the way up, the club's momentum seems to put my wrists where they need to be at the top. Is there some advantage to actively controlling this motion or do you suggest I keep doing what I am doing?

    Hi Aimee, thanks for another great lesson. What club do you suggest we practice the half swings with?

    • @brentbarnes8582
      @brentbarnes8582 6 років тому

      Cudjoe Wms a five iron has always been my go to club for that all the way through 3/4 then full. Just has always worked for me to begin moving through my practice shots.

    • @mikemottonen7230
      @mikemottonen7230 4 роки тому

      Half swings are a good exercise for all your clubs. Personally when practicing I will at least do a few half practice swings with any club I'm using. I also do it at the start with 2 wedges (so that it's heavy) as part of my warm up routine. Just continuous half swings in both directions maybe about 20 times each way.
