- Welcome to Heaton Lodge Junction - Britain's Biggest Model Railway!
MERCH: shop.thatmodelrailwayguy.com
On a cold Winter morning, sometime in the 1980's, Heaton Lodge Junction is the sort of layout many of us dream of creating but know we could never achieve. At a staggering 55 metres long, it really is an incredible thing to stand in the middle of a layout and see the landscape disappear in both directions.
Not only does this allow the running of full length trains (and in O Gauge too!) but it really is the only time with a model railway where you can watch the trains from a distance gradually getting closer and closer.
The choice to model the scene in Winter is a refreshing one too. Most layouts depict Summertime but here the frosty grass and bare trees really give the layout a proper atmosphere - something all the best layouts have. Despite Heaton Lodge Junction being so large, everything is modelled to incredible detail. Even when you're waiting for a train to pass there is plenty to see and capture your eye.
I have to be honest and say that this video doesn't do the layout justice. It's impossible to really get a sense of how large and how well modelled Britain's Biggest Model Railway is until you see it for yourself in person. If you can get up to Wakefield Market Hall I highly recommend visiting! You can find more information here: www.britainsbiggestmodelrailw...
In the meantime, a big well done to Simon George and all those involved with Heaton Lodge Junction. It my opinion it is not only Britain's Biggest Model Railway, but one of it's best too.
Thanks for watching!
Just to say thanks to all of you for your kind comments. Especially to those of you who came and saw it in Wakefield.
Simon George
It's an incredible achievement Simon and it was great to see the layout in person! I hope the show was a success and it leads to more outings for Heaton Lodge Junction in the future 👍
Brilliant photography,great layout.👍🎄
Thanks Peter, it's a stunning layout and was really great to spend a day filming it! Thanks for watching 😃
One of the best ever made.
It is an incredible looking layout, definitely one to experience in person if possible. Thanks for watching 😃
A very impressive layout with an enviable track length. Thanks for filming & sharing your experience 👍👍
I know what you mean, I wish I had that sort of space for my own layout - just think of what I could do in 00 Gauge 🤩 Thanks for watching 👍
This is a real master piece. Video cannot do it justice. It is the most detailed 0 gauge layout I have seen of this kind. Not a small loco shed but a huge section of main line something rarely attempted in this scale. Thanks for sharing this well edited video.
Yeah I definitely agree about the video not doing it justice! It’s difficult to appreciate the full scale length and then also the extent of the tiny details without seeing it in person. Thanks for watching 😃
Good video keep up the good work on the layout thanks
Thanks but this definitely isn't my layout 😂 Thanks for watching 👍
It a beautiful and unusual layout given the size and that it's transportable. The scenery and cameo attention to detail is all but outstanding, love the unususl choice of the stormy clouds which works so well. What surprises me are the gaps that have been left in the back scene and that black post - easy to fix and I hope they do. Thanks for a great and very enjoable video. Stephen
I agree Stephen - it's mad, insane, brilliant and beautiful all at that same time! Yes the backscene was the one thing I thought could be improved. I wondered if having a long printer banner with the grey clouds on would have less gaps... but then again who am I to talk when most of my own layout has no scenery yet 😂 Thanks for watching 👍
Agree on mad insane too - for most of us we have to negotiate for the space with the other half too. Had to laugh at BBC news title (great to see some cheery news and was in news top ten - well done Simon and team) that he "hid it" for a while before telling his girl friend....As with most modellers my humble comments for improvements always given in spirit to help others. Stephen
Great video mate. A very impressive layout I like how it is so lone which means you can run full length prototypical trains on it and in O gauge too. - Nicholas.
Thanks Nicholas, it was great to see it in person. Yeah I agree, it really is quite a sight to see a full length rake of coaches scream past in O Gauge. Thanks for watching 😃
A lad at work was talking about this yesterday and as if by magic here it is, thanks for sharing and will show him this tomorrow.
Ah fantastic Peter! Yes do show it to him. Hope you both get to see it in person at some point too, it really is incredible. Thanks for watching 😃
No no no, that’s creepy. 😂 was thinking about this layout not five minutes ago and now you’re there! The internet knows too much 😂
I’ve been tapping into your thoughts! 😂 But seriously, it’s well worth a visit if you’re nearby. It’s incredible! Thanks for watching 👍
Very nice. Smooth running, impressive scenery. Lucky to have seen it, I'd say. Thanks for sharing this.
Yeah it was incredible to see it in person finally having seen so many photos of it over the years! Hopefully they'll stick to their plan of taking it on tour so more people get a chance to see it. Thanks for watching 😃
This was so much fun to watch its like being there. Made my day thank you.
GOD BLESS 🚂💖🚂💖🚂💖
So glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching 😃
Very impressive layout, you can tell so much work went into it and you can sense the passion for it as well
Absolutely! You can see why it took so long to complete, not just because of it's size but because of the attention to the detail. Really impressive stuff and gives it a fantastic atmosphere! Thanks for watching 😃
I went there last Sunday, a really impressive layout. It's hard to grasp the sheer size of it unless you go yourself, it filled up the whole arena!
Absolutely, it really is a monster! Thanks for watching 😃
Planning on going to see it on Sunday...
Ah excellent! I hope you enjoy it, I certainly did. Thanks for watching 😃
Great video! Very detailed layout.
I know, I was astounded at the attention to detail on such a large layout. I feel like I've visited the real location now even though that's not the case. Thanks for watching 😃
I thought that was you I was standing next to in sunny Wakefield! What a fantastic layout, and after seeing it I couldn't decide whether to be inspired to improve my own layout or just give up altogether!
Ah you should have said Hello! I always assume people are too busy looking at the layout than to notice the bloke videoing everything on his phone 😂 Yes I know what you mean, if my own layout was as half as good as Heaton Lodge Junction I'd be very happy indeed! Thanks for watching 👍
@@ThatModelRailwayGuy I very nearly did say hello but wasn't 100% sure it was you and thought saying "hey - aren't you that model railway guy?" in a building full of model railway guys might have seemed a bit odd! Glad you filmed it so we can all enjoy it again, and look forward to your next post
I think its O Gauge ??? Seen it before well worth the second look
Yep, I do think O Gauge is the best scale for exhibitions and events like this. Yeah I easily spent a few hours there and would happily go back! Thanks for watching 😃
Fantastic layout 😍 I only wish the backdrop would be a bit higher. Thanks for sharing this video 🙏👍🙋♂️
Yes it does look that way in the video although it's difficult to get a sense of scale. From what I saw the top of the backscene is around head height already so it would have been tricky to make it much higher I think. Thanks for watching 😃
great video, is this layout O gauge?
Hi Ben, it is O Gauge - probably the best scale for exhibitions in my opinion! Thanks for watching 😃
Where is it
Hi there, it's in Wakefield at the moment but I believe the plan is for it to tour round the country at some point - maybe next year. Check out their website link in the description for more info and thanks for watching 😃
Thank you
Is this Pete Watermans ??
Hey there, no it’s not but I have done a video of Pete Waterman’s epic West Coast Mainline: ua-cam.com/video/VVbTjlDN_ZU/v-deo.html
Thanks for watching 😃
@@ThatModelRailwayGuy Is this the "Warts And All "layout featured on the TV HORNBY series ?? style is very similar to Petes .
