  • “The place where women are forbidden” 🫣 In today’s Japan travel vlog we’re in Hokkaido Japan and my Japanese husband had the bright idea of taking me to one of the most cursed places in Japan; Cape Kamui in Shakotan Peninsula, where women may only enter at their own risk. 😬
In fact, women were completely forbidden from entering this location up until 1855 for fear of their safety, but thankfully we made it there and back again to tell the tale to you! Watch the full video to find out more about the Japanese legend behind this famous tourist destination!

    📍Locations
Mountain Gorilla Rock (マウンテンゴリラ岩), Tomari, Hokkaido
    Cape Kamui (神威岬), Kozakicho, Hokkaido
Shimamui Coast (島武意海岸), Shakotan Peninsula, Hokkaido (Part of the 100 Best Beaches in Japan (日本の渚・百選) and the Niseko-Shakotan-Otaru Kaigan Quasi-national Park)
Cape Kamui and the Shimamui Coast are 2 of the 3 major tourist attractions in the Shakotan Peninsula and the blue sea is the only ocean area to be designated as part of a Japanese national park. The colour of the sea in Shakotan is so bright and clear that it is famous in Japan as “Shakotan Blue” and the area has one of the most beautiful coastlines in the country, in fact, Shimamui Coast is part of Japan’s 100 best beaches!

Really enjoying your Hokkaido trip guys, I did the same in 1991 for 3 months in a Toyota hiace and ended up settling in Otaru for 9 wonderful years. Keep it up 👍

What a lovely coastline. The nature trails in Japan are so beautiful and manage to somehow be part of the landscape rather than just cutting through it.

Kiwi giving me UK primary school assembly flashbacks, it does look so pretty. I look at the beach here and want to go, but I dont want to die in this heat

Wracking my brain wondering what I did to give you flashbacks haha. And I'm really starting to think we might be better suited to Hokkaido climates 😅

A lot of places actually looks like Wales. I live in a part of Australia that resembles it so much that the Europeans called it New South Wales

I'm so glad Kiwi didn't turn into stone! I couldn't take watching sad future videos of Bear driving around Japan with stone Kiwi strapped in the back of their van.

Give the Brawny the ability to fly and it sounds like an alternative Harry Potter storyline 😂. Very glad I made it there and back again to tell the tale!

Apparently it’s possible to get to the cape by bus from Otaru City! But driving along the coastal roads in a private car definitely tops being stuck on a bus 😅
