- “The place where women are forbidden” 🫣 In today’s Japan travel vlog we’re in Hokkaido Japan and my Japanese husband had the bright idea of taking me to one of the most cursed places in Japan; Cape Kamui in Shakotan Peninsula, where women may only enter at their own risk. 😬
In fact, women were completely forbidden from entering this location up until 1855 for fear of their safety, but thankfully we made it there and back again to tell the tale to you! Watch the full video to find out more about the Japanese legend behind this famous tourist destination!

📍Locations
Mountain Gorilla Rock (マウンテンゴリラ岩), Tomari, Hokkaido
Cape Kamui (神威岬), Kozakicho, Hokkaido
Shimamui Coast (島武意海岸), Shakotan Peninsula, Hokkaido (Part of the 100 Best Beaches in Japan (日本の渚・百選) and the Niseko-Shakotan-Otaru Kaigan Quasi-national Park)
Cape Kamui and the Shimamui Coast are 2 of the 3 major tourist attractions in the Shakotan Peninsula and the blue sea is the only ocean area to be designated as part of a Japanese national park. The colour of the sea in Shakotan is so bright and clear that it is famous in Japan as “Shakotan Blue” and the area has one of the most beautiful coastlines in the country, in fact, Shimamui Coast is part of Japan’s 100 best beaches!
