  • Reaction and full review of my first Devacut!
I've always been skeptical of how a "curl by curl" cut would work on a wavy, so what better way to figure it out than by just doing it?

I'm a wavy who is a big believer in Deva Cuts. My two suggestions: Schedule a consult first. They are usually free (though I tipped). My first Deva stylist was a level 1 stylist. First cut was great, but my 2nd and 3rd cuts were not done curl by curl and she was lazy, cut it like the former cheap salons used to, only dry. This is NOT what I was paying for, so I left. As a Level 1 stylist, she only had video training by Devachan. I changed salons and found a level 2 stylist in Chicago who has additional curly hair training outside of the Devachan system. This is my second suggestion - if you can afford to, go with a Level 2 or 3 stylist. The end results were night and day for me.
In both cases, the pre-cut consultations were also strikingly different. The Level 1 was less than 5 minutes, and she expressed boredom - though I knew she wouldn't be the one who cutting my hair, so I tolerated it. The Level 2 consultation was minimally 15 minutes, she asked lots of questions, she touched my hair in different places, asked for my own pictures as well as pics for inspiration. When I returned 3 months later for the actual cut/style, she spent another 5 minutes reviewing my info prior to cutting.
I had my second cut and style with her six months later in early March 2020, and I was struggling because as a wavy, the longer my hair gets, the wavier it becomes, but because I drive 2 hrs to this salon, I felt that I needed to make it worth my time by having a more drastic cut. I was torn, because I also wanted to not cut too much and just keep my length. My stylist immediately told me how beautiful my hair was at the current length, and as if reading my mind, she asked me to consider not cutting much this time, just shape it up a little, and then we experimented with Innersense products as part of my styling. In over 20 years, I have never been so pleased with my wavy hair. A good stylist will also cut for longevity, so your shape stays strong for a longer period. Sorry so long, just a few bits of advice to fellow wavies. Shout out to Alexa at Penny Lane Studios in Chicago, IL.

Your hair is stunning!!! I’m just starting the curly girl method with wavy hair and this Is goals! How long have you been doing it? I would love to see you post a “hair journey” video and see and hear you talk about your transition. Maybe some before and after pics. Most days I want to quit but seeing your hair makes me want to keep pushing through.

Love it! There are no deva certified hairstylist in my country (actually only one and it is waaaay too expensive) but I was wondering about a devacut for a softer wave. Thank you for the information 🥰 also, you're gorgeous

Aline Marchioro where I’m at, just about every single Devacut certified specialist is $90-$110 for just the cut. I saw a few that are a little cheaper like $70-$85 but it’s not the norm. It takes a while and you go curl by curl so it is a long and therefore expensive service.

@@jennnnn911 really? Here is from 100 to 150€ for 45 minutes to an hour so I wouldn't say it is a time consuming factor for these hairdresser. A regular haircut in my country goes from 10 to 45€ so 150€ to me is not a good price. Also their results are not that special 😢 (obviously talking about the one i've seen near me, not talking about every deva stylist)
