A most excellent video on faucet repair. I especially like where you forgot the bearing, shows you are human and thinking about the common person. You are right in saying the O-rings are usually the culprit as I am maintenance for 5 different apts and see this regularly.
Thank you for a very informative and easy to follow video. I appreciated the fact that you went back and corrected your mistake and showed it in the video.
Thank you very much Dan. I'll watch your video a couple of times again and get the parts this week. I feel confident from your excellent instruction to try to fix my kitchen faucet.
Great instructions. Mine was a little different, but applied your instruction and all is well. The wife is happy. Of course, the little plastic clip was broken when I got everything apart. Had to drive about 20 miles to a plumbing supply that had the Moen handle extension kit.
This was wonderful. You are a great teacher; patient; methodic and adaptive even sharing your own error and turning it into a teaching/learning opportunity. Thank you and God bless you!
Dan, great video, thanks. I'm in need of some instructions on replacing/cleaning the diverter so the side sprayer on my Moen kitchen faucet will function properly again. Think ya can do another video covering that aspect. Thanks again for a very professional video.
I’ve noticed a lot of folks asking about where to buy parts. If you are the original purchaser and had the fivesight to register your purchase with Moen, they will send you all the parts required, no questions asked. I bought mine faucet in 2004 and had to effect leak repairs this year 2017. I called them up and was connected in about 5 minutes, and they determined what model I had , what my current mailing address is and I had the parts about 2 weeks later. Of course, this is not the recommended course of action if you’re having a catastrophic plumping issue.
It's SUPER helpful when you list the tools needed BEFOREHAND. How many times have I taken something apart THEN realized I didn't have the right tool, socket, grease, etc to finish the job! (@thelonebishop: sometimes it takes me 4 days to go to the right store, too - and I haven't found the correct hinge replacements I need for my kitchen cabinet in 2 flippin' years! So I have a fugly, dark GAP under my sink. 2 YEARS, no kidding!) Thanks for the video-education, Dan!!
Dan, thanks for your help, this was the most helpful video I have watched so far for the type of Men faucet I have. I only wished you had shown how to replace the diverter as this is the last step have to do. I loved the relaxing flamenco music!
Thanks Dan Jiles, I've had low pressure problem since I had a water heater put in, I took my Moen apart just to see what was in there I found 2 little pieces of metal tabs??? and cleaned the hole out put it back in snug and I have full water pressure back.
Thanks Dan for uploading this video. I have an American Standard Fairbury 4005 series. The faucet is only 5 months old and it leaked water down into my brand new cabinet box. I think it might be those O-rings that failed. I'll find out for sure tomorrow morning when I take the faucet apart. If you read this I was wondering if you knew anything about my faucet model. That is if that particular model has a history of leaking.
Thanks for the great video! I've never done this before but am going to attempt it. My sink is leaking near where you show the bottom o-ring/bearing area and I have a bucket under the sink catching the drips for now. Is there an easy way to make sure I get the correct replacement kit as I don't see a brand on my faucet. Thanks
This was a big help Dan. Just one thing my Moen kitchen faucet has a small emblem that covers the set screw that holds the top on. Does this just pry out?
There are no obstructions at the aerator. Home depot does not stock the cartridge or O-rings where I bought the faucet and an associate told me to open up the valve in the middle with both hot and cold on and turn the water supply valves on and off for about 5 times to clear any sediment that may be in the galvanized pipes. If that doesn't work I'll contact Price Pfister.
Dan, Good job on the video. I had this same exact faucet for less than 2 years, and the cartridge was problem with mine. It leaked inside the spout barrel for quite sometime until I discovered the leak inside the base cabinet. People need to beware of this moen brand faucet, its a piece of junk and the replacement cartridge is not available at lowes or home depot or at the plumbing stores. Guys at the plumbing store told me I would have to order it on the internet. Who has time for that? I researched it online and found it cost $49.98. I bought the whole faucet at lowes for $79.00. "Moen" Buy it for looks, buy for life? Don't even buy it! Get a "Delta", and then if you need replacement parts, you can easily find them.
That's incorrect. The O rings and gaskets fail on all faucets over time. Especially in an active kitchen. Replacement parts including the cartridge and O rings with the bearing set cost me $20.00 on Amazon.. You must not have looked very hard?
TheeJackieChan Here is the link for anyone else that's interested. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0031Q8J9Y/ref=pd_lpo_sbs_dp_ss_2?pf_rd_p=1944579842&pf_rd_s=lpo-top-stripe-1&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_i=B000BVS3MK&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=12PC2CZE4Z2NTQVYWS6Z
TheeJackieChan It was the cartridge. You don't read well. A leaking kitchen faucet in a working kitchen, is a repair ASAP issue. Not an order online issue unless you can get one hour delivery as someone in NYC. Good for you if it works that way at your home. The Moen faucet was junk!
I just bought one from Lowe's, it's not made by Moen but it's an exact match to the old one and fits perfectly. The one from Lowe's is the only one they carry and it's made by Danco which is basically Delta the guy told me. Cost was $16.
I need to change the o-rings and the bearing washer on my Moen single lever kitchen faucet. You don't do the bearing washer in this video...is it pretty obvious what will need to be done as far as changing that washer once I get the faucet apart?
Hi Dan, great video. I replaced the cartridge and "O" rings of my Moen kitchen faucet 4 years ago. Its leaking from the spout again. Didn't know at that time and put too much plumber's grease; water tasted awful for quite a while. Just read on Moen website not to use petroleum based lubricant or silicone spray to prevent damage to the rubber "O" rings. Was just wondering the plumbers grease you used was petroleum based or not?
Hi Dan, I am experiencing a vibrating thumping sound at the base of the goose neck and leaking from the handle assembly under the sink when I turn on my Price Pfister single handle kitchen faucet. If I replace the cartridge and O-rings on the mounting shank, should this fix the problem?
Having the same leaking problem with my Moen that you have outlined here. Called Moen and they sent out a new cartridge. I replaced the cartridge and still had the leak coming up from the top of the spout. Called them back after watching your video and asked for the (2) bearings and the (2) 0-rings. They found the O-rings for me and are sending them, but told me that there are no bearings. Do you have any idea of how I might be able to get a kit that would include the bearings that you have shown? Thank you.....great video !
Sharp teeth on channel locks will go right through a rag and make a mess of the finish. It is best to use a strap wrench (they are cheap and universal for many things).
Blaster THE DRY LUBE spray just cured my hard to turn problems. I had the shaft off to begin seal replacement but sprayed it first. 10 minutes later:Easy on-off and moving left and right. Holding off any more work until later to see if seals improved to stop water leaking from bottom of faucet shaft. Meant to spray with silicone but grabbed wrong can. water started leaking because of tightness last few weeks.
Hi, great video! You explained why you replaced the o-rings, but why replace the cartridge? My mama is having the stiff faucet problem as well, but no leaking. I am trying to figure out what parts to get to fix the problem. Thanks!
Dan, where can I purchase a 7/64" tamper proof hex allen wrench? I cannot even start my repair because Moen used a tamper proof set screw for the handle.
The gray ring at the bottom of the spout (lower bearing?) cracked on me, and now water is spraying out from the bottom of the spout. Do I just reseat the assembly and tighten everything up, or do I need new parts? While I have the spout apart, should I go ahead and replace the O-rings as well? What about the cartridge? I think it's a Moen Chateau 7430. Thanks!

I bought a cheap set that has both SAE and metric from Walmart (less than $3). The cheap one from Walmart worked. Looks like the Husky 3/32 wasn't formed just right. I'll never buy Husky junk again.
