Hi Margaret, such a powerful and multi-faced conversation this morning. First, I started laughing at my younger self for crying for two years over a husband who cheated on and abused me! Imagine that! Then, I sort of crashed and burned after my beloved 2nd husband died. In both instances I had no tools in the toolbox to help me recover! Now older and wiser I’m more resilient and in a better position to handle life’s challenges. We just lost our beloved pet and how I empathize with your friend over her loss. Yes, we’re heartbroken but we are able to both appreciate having loved Mac and being loved by Mac and mourn our loss. Thank you for this very timely conversation!♥️

I know it may sound trite but sometimes I think a good way to help snap out of that "down" feeling is to look outside of ourselves and to help others. Where I live it is possible to volunteer at an animal shelter and take the dogs for a walk. Another opportunity is to volunteer at a quilting society where they supply fabric and sewing machines to use at the meeting place. Just plain straight stitching is all that is required and the items that are assembled (blankets or whatever) are given to charity. These activities can help us interact with other people and get us away from the constant mental re-living the hurtful things that have happened to us.

I am so sorry for the pain your friend is going through over her dog. I lost my mini dachshund this Spring also...he was 14. I was crying about him (again) last night (and right this minute sharing her pair) Please realize...we gave THEM a good, loving life! A kind wonderful home! A loyal home...a forever home!!!! Do you know how many dogs (animals) are abused, never have a forever home, live on the streets....& like the internet said....NEVER know what it's like to know love!!! That makes me cry too!!!! IF one puppy out of a litter gets a "good" home it's the normal...the rest...who knows what happens to them. Tell your friend to celebrate her dogs life, & thank the LORD for giving us our wonderful companion to take care of! I always bury my dogs myself & say a prayer over them giving them back to the LORD & thanking HIM for letting me have him/her for this time in life. Bless your friend & will pray for her pain!!! hugs for you both, Judie

Thank you Margaret, for your kind, gentle thoughtful words. I'm sure they resonated with everyone. The facebook thing is a good example. One of my brothers and his wife tend to overdo the posts of what a wonderful time they are having and the delicious food they are eating and well, you get the picture!! It can get a little nauseating after a while. Lol. I love how you remind us that we're on the planet, alive and breathing. Because it's easy to forget. Marriage is so hard for many of us as you say, with many ending in divorce. Mine is a huge struggle and I realize now that I have been constantly giving to the point of exhaustion. I'll continue to work on it at least for now, but it's nice to know I'm not alone.

Thanks for a wonderful caring video, Margaret. It is consoling to know you and many of your viewers have gone through tough times. I guess by the time you reach 60, 65 (my age) or 70 and beyond, it's inevitable that you've had some rough patches! My divorce just went through after five long expensive years. My husband left me and I was devastated for several years. I had no closure until the divorce was finally settled last week. I know this experience has made me stronger, but it has definitely eroded my self esteem. Good luck to all of you out there with divorces on the horizon. I'm counting on the light at the end of the tunnel, and so should you!

The conversation today was really meaningful. You really show compassion. My husband died 9 years ago and I have managed to stay in the same house, but the garden is getting too much for me (arthritis and osteoporosis) and it’s time to move into a townhouse or a condo. My dilemma is whether to stay in the same area (which I don’t really care for any more) but where I belong to activities etc., or to move to a different area. I would not move far as want to stay fairly close to my grown children (no grandchildren, and none coming). I am 68.

It’s interesting how so many of us who have experienced divorce go through months of tears. My experience was a bit different. I had a day of tears that was related to frustration in realizing I had wasted 17 years (especially the final 10) of my precious life with a person who would never be a good partner. I mourn the loss of a very formative part of my life. Even now after 30 years since divorce, my low days are connected to that regret that I did not divorce sooner. He certainly gave me many opportunities, but “marriage” was for better or worse! However, I do fondly remember a few fun times and congratulate myself for finally taking action that was best for me vs what was best for him. I have recovered and moved on with the exception of those odd times when I re-examine my mistakes which are usually related to accommodating those people who do not appreciate my care and loyalty until I have had enough. Wow! That was cathartic.

Been there way too many times ... so much going on in the world that crushes any happy feelings ... it is a battle to go on day after day. But if one gives up ... there goes any glimmer of hope. So many ways we can refocus on helping each other and our voiceless friends. I have worked on helping two and for legged friends who are homeless, abused, etc. Sometimes that is the only thing that keeps me going. Making even a small difference is better than ignoring those in need.

Oh sis, i went through the same thing last year (class of '73 rah!) Like you, i said to myself..."Those people are not & were not my friends. So why do i feel the need to go? Then i asked myself..."Is there (anyone) there i really want to see again?" Answer: (ok, one or two people tops). So i reached out to those 2 people...(then quickly) realized why i did not keep in touch with them too. Lol🤣😉 Honey, save yourself a whole lot of money and anxiety...treat yourself to an amazing spa day.💃💃💃

I have never gone to any of my class reunions. My 50th is next fall. Only one person I’d like to visit. I’m sure I wouldn’t even recognize any others. Many of my classmates died in Vietnam. I’m not going to waste my time nor money. Go do something fun with your family or current friends.
