I'm curious out the pacing of a runway show and how that affects the overall intention. I have only watched a few runway show replays and none in person, but my initial thought with each is that I'm seeing too much too quickly. With stuff that's this well thought out and "artsy," I feel like I don't have adequate time to process what I'm looking at. Imagine visiting an art museum but that you can't stop and must always be moving forward. Maybe that's where the pause button and viewing notes come into play, but as a natural, uninterrupted experience it can definitely come across as sensory overload.
Yes, agreed. If the brand is new to you, and you’re showing up with very little info, it can seem kinda overwhelming. It helps to know where the artist is starting from.
But keep in mind you are supposed to be seeing a collection and how all the pieces come together, if you wanted to stop and look individually at each one that is for after, and when you are going through a museum each painting is it’s own piece, while the fashion show as a whole is one piece

@@BlissFoster Hehee, I love random conversations. Thanks... OK. So this could apply to any fashion designer, but especially to the ones who build a story out of their collection. There are specific things that ignited the ideas behind the fabric, whatever they may be. Hence, fashion fits into the definitions of art. They are objects in conversation with the past, present and perceived future. But. At the end of the day a dress on a hanger or on a mannequin or sitting in a temp controlled box is just part of the story of the ensemble. The clothing can't properly express its ideas in a static form. It was meant to wrap around a body in movement. People are fluid and the clothing has to either adapt, enhance or stand in opposition to that movement. The vision in the designers head, the one that gets summarized in the show notes, can't be properly expressed until it's put into three-dimensional space on living bodies. It has to be introduced to it's audience with all the glamour and witchcraft that goes into show design. Which, I think without too much of a stretch, means that the runway show can be viewed as a type of performance art. Light, sound, show environment, props, make-up, hair, accessories - they're all in support of the clothing. And the clothing is, often, an expression of ideas. In dress history the complaint is that often pieces are too fragile to mount on a mannequin - we're only getting at part of how it looked. That's where best-guess reconstructions in practical archeology come into use. But even a dress on a mannequin won't tell you just how that cross grain drape works when someone is walking.
Video was great but I was so confused and i thought that i missed sth bc there is no actually point 2A, the runway structure is 2B and the music is 2B too, so i was skipping back and forth in panic at some point
It’s very difficult now. You either have to be invited or know someone who’s very influential at the brand. For reference, there’s very few shows that I can get into.

The short answer is yes! The more complicated answer is that it depends. You have to feel the art out and figure out what its goals are and the most effective way of reading it. But that’s definitely one way that art can communicate, certainly.
