the fryette power station is pricey but can solve all the problems you guys are talking about below. The 100 watt fryette power station is the one you want with switchable effects loop and many more incredible features. Just spend the money cuz once you got it,, you got it and can get full potential from any amp down to whisper level

Great Videos about this amp! I play a lot Racer X and other 80´s stuff through my Marshall 6100 (Using it only in Crunch and pushing with Pedals). I wanted the litte 800 but now i think that the SV would suite my sound a lot better for the 80s tone

Thanks for tuning in. I was in two 80's rock bands (Rellik & Trixie) and ran two Marshall stacks together. One was a JCM800 50 watt and the other was a Plexi Superlead 100 watt. I always liked the tone of the Plexi better, BUT that Plexi was super loud and I had to turn it way up to get the tone. This little 20 watt Plexi solves that problem and is awesome! If you get one, I doubt you will be disappointed!

Great tone , a bright ( but not harsh) high end that sounded sweet. I'm going to try this setup -- minus the 4 input jacks--into my Marshall Origin and JCM800. Again bro awesome tone and playing. A great demonstration of effects from.

    Great video,very informative!
I noticed that as I drive the amp harder with no boost, the delay becomes more and more muddy. Reverb and delay lose all their definition after 12 o clock volume..

because the effects loop is pointless on these, it is post pre-amp and before the power amp. effects loops are for amps with a master volume and a lot of pre-amp gain. These amps are old school non master volume and the distortion is from the POWER tubes. So when the power tubes distort, it distorts all your delays and reverbs in the loop because the effects are before the distorting power tubes.

@@fixedgear37 thanks, I really thought the pre amp was somehow generating gain on this too.
I guess the jcm 800 has a usable loop ,since it has a master vol.

@@melexdy Yes. The JCM loop makes more sense. Still the Classic marshalls (including the 800) generate the really classic marshall sound by cranking the power tubes too. But yeah, way more useful on an 800

Ok but how works delay in the s/r with distortion from the amp? do you know people say send return doesn't work well in non master volume (or also jcm800) because a lot of the distortion comes from phase inverter and the send return is before it. Instead in modern day's amps distrortion comes more from the preamp so you doesn't have this issue to distorted your delay tone after the return in the phase inverter. Could you make a video where you play with high channel (with a huge volume, above 6 let's say) boosted with TS pedal and the delay and reverb in send return. So distortion from amp. Another issue is people say digital delays work bad with old marshall and it's better put analog delay in front of the amp with low pedal volume knob

Hi how are things?. I have the same amp and I use an Hx effects, but the problem is that when I want to play with distortion, the effects are distorted too. The problem with this amplifier is that the power tubes are also distorting and if you plug in effects through the effects loop, you will get distorted effects too. How can I play with distortion and make the effects sound clear? Thank you.

Hi sinfirma, thanks for watching and commenting. I am doing well, thanks for asking. Whenever you are adding any kind of pedal to the signal chain, it is a balancing act. The trick is to get the amp sounding as great as you can and then add in the pedal gain/level a little at a time. Pay attention to the volume and tone knobs on your guitar also. At around the 8:20 mark in this video I play a solo with a lot of gain. What I did not show is how long it took me to balance this tone before I shot the video. These Marshalls start to break up at around 5, so keeping it under that helps. If you need it louder turn the level down on the pedal and guitar. Hopes this helps.

I’m having the same problem with the same setup…I’ve got a 20w Jubilee I use with my HX FX in the effects loop and it sounds great! Not sure why the SV20H’s effects loop isn’t giving me the same.

I have the regular flashback: if I use it with a distortion pedal the dynamic delay algorithm doesn't work cause the pedal doesn't understand when I don't play (even at low gain)...does it work on the flashbackx4 ?

I use an overdriver (tubescreamer) signal into the SV20h amp with both volumes at about noon. In other words guite a high gain and the amp distorts. My problem is that the delay and reverb (DD-7 and Big Sky) sounds absolutly terrible at high gain settings and are pretty much useless in that scenario. They sound perfectly well with lover gain settings however. I suspect that the signal is so hot that it distorts the poweramp thus distorting the reverb signal. Would that be an plausable explanation? If so, how do you manage to keep a high gain signal sounding all right using the effect loop?
On a side note. Doesn’t the DI out bypass the poweramp? I haven’t tried the DI but use the output from the speaker into a captor X and feed that signal into my interface.

Hi Jens, thanks for watching and commenting. Congratulations, you are using some of the best equipment that money can buy. My advice is to adjust the levels down on the pedals. When playing at high gain, there is a fine balance line. I spend some time with all levels (guitar, amp, and pedals) until I find the sweet spot. It will be different with each guitar and amp. In general when using wet effects with high gain amps, less is more. I do not use the effects loop in the recording studio and prefer to turn the amp up loud with a speaker in another room. I add wet effects in post production if wanted. I use a TwoNotes loadbox also for these videos as my main sound and augment with mics and cabs panned left and right. I believe you are correct about the direct out on the SV20. I sometimes record with the DI/OUT also and then add a cab IR and some studio verb/delay panned 70% left and right. This will add fullness to a single coil track. You might also try turning down the volume and tone pots on your guitar slightly, and lighten your touch and pick attack. You may be surprised how much this alone will help, even with your current settings. I believe tone comes from your heart and your fingers. When recording, first play the part many times over and over on an acoustic guitar in a quiet room. Listen carefully to all the overtones and coax the sustain out of the acoustic guitar for as long as you can. Then go record on the Marshall. You should be able to play with less gain now and the recording will sound much better. Hope this helps.

My complain as well... I cant use delay with the amp driven. I have to use a pedal to get more gain and have delay at the same time...

Awesome demo. I currently have a JVM and am looking to downsize and this is the only contender at the moment. A problem with the JVM FX loop is a noticeable compression and volume drop when engaged. Is the loop on the SV20H fairly transparent?

    • @toneattic2292
      @toneattic2292  2 роки тому

Hi Nick, thanks for commenting. I only notice a slight volume loss and compression. This can be fixed with a clean boost in the loop if it bothers you. This amp sounds great with or without pedals. I use the pedals so I can get great tone at lower volume. Even at only 20 watts it is LOUD. If you get an SV20H, I think you will love it! Thanks for tuning in.

I feel like I'm getting closer. There's a little info about stereo setups. How would I connect my stereo reverb (Boss RV-6) into stereo fx loop (in Marshall S80 combo 8240). On my amp I got 1x SEND and 2x RETURN intputs. Do I need some special cable like 2xTS to 1xTRS? I would appreciate any insight. Have a great day.

Hi Spontanp, Thanks for watching and commenting. Although I played through two Marshall stacks back in the day, I never really got into the "stereo" setup. Truth be told, most of the time only one cabinet was actually live and mic'd up through the PA. If I got the opportunity to play a large club, arena or outdoor concert, then I would plug the Explorer into the Plexi, come out of the Plexi into the JCM800 and let all sixteen speakers scream....FUN! In the studio I would use the JCM800 for rhythm and the Plexi with a BOSS OD-1 pedal in front for lead. I recently bought a EVH amp and an ABY box. I am planning on trying some stereo setups in an upcoming video, so please stay tuned for that. In the meantime I found a good link on how to set it all up here: ua-cam.com/video/FhS_dIn_smw/v-deo.html. Hope this helps!

@@toneattic2292 Thank you for taking the time to respond to my question :) It expanded my understanding of stereo setups when it comes to multi-amp setups. However I still wonder if there is a way to split a wet signal using just one combo amp with two built-in speakers. My Marshall 8240 has stereo chorus effect built in which sounds awesome and I was hoping I could use some similar, spacious sounding effects like delay or reverb while splitting them into those two speakers. I guess I'll have to experiment with different cable connections and see what happens.
