Drew Barrymore, thank you so much for talking about being a mom in such a normal, unapologetic way. I’m a mom & I love to sit here with my daughters & hear someone so accomplished be on a similar path to me & other parents.
Drew is THE BEST at making others feel GREAT about THEMSELVES. She’s such a giver. I don’t see how anyone doesn’t completely ADORE everything about her. ✨🦋🌺🌻🌸🌈🌞💖💫✨
I basically see her statement about anger as her trying to distance feminism away from the stereotype that its about hating men and replacing men with women. She wants women to continue to work hard to create opportunities but doesn't want it to be fueled by anger and distrust because that makes it hard for men and women to work together.
Absolutely, she is preaching the right kind of feminism. But she isn't arguing against people stereotyping feminism. She is arguing against the movement of anger and entitlement within feminism itself.
@El Raton Umm, ask Phil Hartman about that one. Men have been killed by their spouses. Yes, in areas like the Middle East, women don't have equal rights. Feminists should focus their attention on those countries. Instead we're ludicrously told that "misogyny" exists in America, a word that wasn't even in common use until 5 years ago. Women have an innate physical disadvantage against men, which is why we have laws against rape and other forms of abuse. We also have child support laws. Yet, in the modern economy, women have incredible advantages. They're better at verbal skills, and are simply doing better in education across the board. Ultimately, it's very easy for women to get in a situation where a man is paying all their bills, while they don't have to work at all. It's extremely rare for a man to be in that privileged position. That's the only reason women aren't earning as much money as men, because they have so many opportunities to be supported by men rather than work. Ultimately, it's wrong to focus on any ideology like feminism which only looks at trying to help one group of people. We should always take society as a whole, and work on issues that help all people.
04:00 as a teenager who barely got the hang on the internet, back in 1990s, one of the earliest memories of really falling for her sweet, giggly charm was her David Letterman flash. weird how decades pass by and people change (or appear to change).. and i meant on the internal level and one's mind.
All the comments below I don't think people are realizing that in 1995 when she was 19 I would think even with who she is and her family is she would have to work hard to be taken seriously. She was the coolest person of my teens but she wasn't serious. She was never serious. She flashed David Letterman...she was in rehab before 13 yrs old. She had a tough life. She had to work hard to stay relevant and she had her share of bad publicity. Even with her crazy childhood she grew to be such a successful, kind, intelligent gentle soul. She has amazing energy and heart...even her laugh is contagious. I met her once in 1999. Worked in Never Been Kissed with her for 3 months as a regular extra. She was the nicest most humble celebrity I had ever met. She is a class act. She may have been a wild child in her youth but she will always be one of my favorites.
I’m not really good at remembering actors’ names and matching them to faces, voices etc. But Drew’s different. She has an innocent sort of cuteness about her. Very memorable.
I loved drew in never been kissed. Kids called me josie grossy in school like in the movie, then i find out her birthday is the same day as mine wich made me love her even more. Drews awesome!!!
We need more people like Drew in this world. She's always full of smiles and nice and genuine. Awwww bless her! She looks the same as she did twenty years ago lol...she doesn't age at all .
I think the problem with sexism is that many women DO work hard and ARE deserving, and still because of sexism aren't given the same opportunities, or paid as much. Some women have to work even harder than their male counter parts. I think thats something to be justifiably angry about. I am glad she is such a hard working person and a good example, but I wish she wouldn't use her success as a way to make it seem as if other women havent worked as hard as her.
Yes, agreed! And in no way do I think she _intends_ to come off that way, but she does. Her words here about tone stink of privilege. She was riding on the back of her family’s financial security and success when she started up her own business at 19. No one’s going to say she didn’t work hard or didn’t deserve that, but we also can’t sit back and say she would have gotten the same recognition if she had come from an unknown family without some hefty financial backing. She didn’t have to work as hard for it as other women do. Love Drew, but she’s really disappointed me here.
I agree with some of what you say, but not about the backing she got when she was 19. She was selected by Speilburg for ET when she was 7. And, I don't think he offered her the role because she was a Barrymore. So, she'd been working since she was 7 when she started her own company at 19. I have no doubt but that it was her OWN money that she used to start her company.
arx754 I’m sure she used her own money as well, but that doesn’t change the fact that if she had any financial setbacks, she had her family to lean against. Whether or not that happened isn’t the point, it’s the fact that she had that financial privilege that not everyone has that makes the difference. Drew had a hard life in many unique ways, but money wasn’t among those hardships. And, unfortunately, it is money that often makes or breaks it where opportunity is concerned.
arx754 Like I said, though, I have little doubt Drew only means the best, but her words here really miss the mark. She’s speaking as someone who hasn’t experienced the same amount of resistance as the other women speaking up in Hollywood have, you know? She fought back and moved a mile, while others fought back and only moved an inch. I’m, of course, not an expert on Drew’s entire life history, but knowing what I do know, I feel it’s her time to sit back and let other voices be heard.
Agree with Ms. Drew. I so much love her. Every show should have the responsibility to educate the viewing public not only to entertain. Stephen is a multi-talented host WHO is able to share not only politics but also elevate socio-Cultural aspects of human interests. I hope we have the same kind of show in our country!
Although I like educational entertainment I disagree with it being a responsibility.
