Thanks. We are looking for something like this with the weather we are having in Western PA.

Thanks for sharing this, I hate feeding the acid treated hay to my cows if I don't have to, and it seems lately its hard to make dry hay, even with the tedder, so I might have to add a preservative tank to my baler! Good info!

So far, it has been a good alternative to acid. I have not used it on higher moisture hay, just on hay that was close to being ready, but not quite, and the rain was coming! Not sure if people know about acid alternatives, and if there are other products out there besides this one. Thanks for watching!

Yea, that’s the stuff I was looking for last year and they guy I get chemicals from told me it was only available in 275gal totes. I didn’t look into it further cuz I only wanted to use it as needed and didn’t want that much

Yeah sounds like your dealer told you a load of bull, either out of ignorance or, more likely, wanting to sell you some product he's currently carrying and/or making more money off of. Either way it's not a guy I'd be listening to very much-- either unprofessional or disreputable... Later! OL J R :)

Would a 1gpm pump work on this product,?
    Does this product need mixing?

What effect would it have spraying it on the outside of the bale? I have to store some of my hay outside.

I am not sure. I think the product was really designed to be sprayed on the hay as it comes into the baler.

Just wondering. It would save me from having to tarp over my bales.

It would be an interesting use for the product. Might be worth a phone call to the company that sells it. Here is their phone number: (888) 336-7878. Hope this helps!

@@WormHoleFarming Some water is still going to infiltrate your bales, to some degree... the product isn't going to stop weathering on the outside layers of the bale, though it might help slightly. It's really meant to be applied to hay that is not *quite* dry enough to bale without heating up, to minimize heating and prevent mold from growing within the bale. Later! OL J R :)

guardian also known as hay guard is complete crap. i used it last year on hay that was 18% or lower and it cost me over 1000 bales that i couldnt sell. i ran it at the 4 lb rate which should have been more than enough but still got slight mold, carmelization, and the hay lost its color pretty quick. on top of that it rusted my baler up pretty bad. paid $1100 dollars for a barrel and cost me over $6000 in lost revenue. it just isnt worth it. im going to use propionic acid this year and see how that goes. i can get it for half the price of hay guard so even if it does just as bad ill still be money ahead

Wow, I am sorry to hear about your trouble, and it sure stinks to lose good hay. Are you sure we are talking about the same product, though? I have used Guardian as needed for three seasons, and have had absolutely no rust on the baler. The most I get is a white haze around the pick up header that I clean every so often. Also, since it is a liquid, I calculate my rate in gallons not pounds- maybe that would help your situation? As for the price, I know shipping can be expensive, so maybe that is why the cost was so high? I pay the same price for the guardian as what the prop acid costs around here. Just so you know, I am not associated with this company in any way, nor do I get a discount on the product. I am just hoping to offer some suggestions to hopefully be helpful lol

@@dehavenfamilyfarm it is the same ingredients and amounts as hay guard and manufactured in the same facility. Whether figuring rates by gallons or pounds it is all the same. 10 pounds per gallon. You have to know how many pounds of material your using to figure out how many gallons per minute for spray tips. Not accusing you of any thing just putting out the info. 1100 was the price for the preservative. I picked it up myself so no delivery. That price is also a early order discounted price. Without the discount it is nearly 1500 for a drum. If you have luck with it then great. I just know I cant afford to lose that much money again and I dont want to buy balers every couple years. Also dont want anybody else to be in the same position

@@dehavenfamilyfarm have u ever seen the product from iba called preservor? It's also potassium sorbate product but I saw the percentages on ur guardian are higher

  • @jcstout7280

If it's safer than buffered propionic acid then why would you need to wear all of that PPE gear? Potassium sorbate and sodium benzoate is the same products used in Hay Guard and that crap eats balers.. Nuhn Forage "The Juice" is the way to go, people need to get over the "acid" stigma!!
