    I love that Kane took into account that Collin might not like entirely new environments and instead kept the larger elements (the color of his room, the couch he prefers) the same and worked around those but still incorporated it into his new design. Really thoughtful! I so enjoyed this and can't wait to see more Kane Area Makeovers!

      yes! when i heard him saying he didnt want to change the favourite spot a foudn a different solution to the couch. taking into account senesory issues in that part too, a different couch might not feel good. it melted my heart.

    It's ok if you dont like the transformation, but what really matters is how the family feels. Seeing the happiness radiating from the mother, Collin, and the brother, was really refreshing.

      Heehaw 101 Totally agree! Plus, they probably had a limited budget and needed 2 rooms to be transformed in a very short span of time so yeah, they did an amazing job and all the family, especially Collin, genuinely looked happy!

    The way Collin was jumping up and down in happiness made me happy cry. My best friends son, whom I considered my nephew, was also autistic and he wasn’t able to speak so anytime he was happy, he would jump and do a little jiggle with his body. It would be for the smallest things too like when he saw a humming bird while at the park. Unfortunately he passed away after cancer struck him.
    Collin just reminded me so much of him. He would have been 11 in October.

    I know everyone is complaining about the sofa, but I just appreciated that he made sure to keep the couch there for him.. getting custom covers for such a massive couch would probably be unreasonably expensive... I think Buzzfeed should have just paid for it, but I know that’s not always possible, anyway just wanted to say something good about it

    • @itsgonnaBmay
      @itsgonnaBmay 6 років тому +34

      It might also be to do with the texture of the sofa. Some autistic people can have issues with certain fabrics

      Agreed ,,, it may also be to do with the fact that a large part of autistic people don’t do well with change and because he said it was his favourite part he wanted to keep it to give him comfort and familiarity

    I think it was wise to keep the couch. If they choose to change it Melina can have Collin involved in choosing the couch which will make the transition of such an important item to Collin go smoother. ps even at the end when Collin was asked what his favourite thing was he said the couch. Great job Kane!!!

    As someone in the interior design field, I really wish that people knew how much their environment impacted them on a daily basis. Just these simple changes made them so happy, and they didn't cost very much either. People think that in order to redo their house, they have to spend thousands of dollars and knock walls down, but that's not true at all! I'm so happy that Kane is able to show that

    I love that you were able to incorporate things that everyone in the house could enjoy and feel comfortable with. From the meditation nook to leaving the couch pretty much AS IS due to the fact that some people, even those who aren't on the spectrum, do not do well with change. This was a different type of decorating that most people will not understand because they don't know about mental illness. I, however, think you did an AMAZING job. Beautifully done. Beautiful family. Beautiful episode.

    I have high-functioning Aspergers and am in the middle of the ASC spectrum! I’m 14 now and was diagnosed 3 years ago (aged 11). My mum knew I had it around 5 years before I was diagnosed. However, my primary school didn’t believe I had Aspergers. I was bullied, told I was weird and that that’s why I didn’t have many friends!! My mum was told by my teachers that I shouldn’t have 'brought it on' and if I ‘behaved’ more like the other students, the bullying would go away!! I was placed in low-ability groups and was told I wouldn’t achieve anything higher than a 4c in my year 6 SATS (I got 5a’s - the highest grade you can get doing the exams I did)
    Now I'm starting my GCSE's and am expected to get grades 7, 8 and 9 (A's and A*'s) in all my exams!! I am sure proving them wrong!!

    Collin really does give his mom a powerful message, Just to focus on what's happening now, and not tommorow or next week, that's one of the things I'm taking from this video, Thank you, Collin x

    seeing how happy collin was made just by having his bedroom made over made me smile so much! then his mom and brother being excited about everything, and seeing how they appreciated everything just lifts my spirits. people really underestimate how a nice living space makes everyone feel, mentally and can help physically!

      i am an apprentice in a design firm and i experience a lot of that. it is usually the wall or ceiling in this video's mistake. The ceiling is not that aligned or it probably dented for it is a plyboard or acoustic ceiling. or maybe the wall is not finished properly, there are a lot of aspects that can really affect the renovation and to think they did it at a very short amount of time.

      or, i don’t know... the wall sticker of wood they used as an “illusion headboard” that’s so cheap and just awkward... just buy a headboard or just cover it with pillows

    love the concept and the design elements but a full house redecoration shld really be spread over more days. Maybe do the living space and bedroom separately or have more people working under Kane's direction. Buzzfeed you could have easily turned this into a 2 part video and had a bigger crew such that the wallpaper wasn't misaligned and production issues etc. Love the desk, meditation corner, and bedroom, not so sure about the tv/couch area which was the main concern. Really want this series to do well thou and its great that you were able to help this family! It looked like they really loved it ;)

    I feel a little bit sad for his brother. I mean, he most probably understands what his brother's problem is and what he needs, but he must feel left out. It might not be nice at times. But, anyways, he seems to be so kind and nice so it's wonderful for him and his family ❤ keep the goodness up hun and know that there is also much support for you ❤

      Hana Dibaba.. it's not always fun to be around someone else that gets more attention but it's good that you understand why it happens. im touched by the fact that you love her so much in spite of you feeling left out at times. things will get better for you someday. just know that you are a great person for understanding the situation with your sister and the world is a better place because of you!

      It's hard having an autistic sibling. My brother is autistic and I gotta say growing up all the attention was on him. It sucks but it's ok. You learn to understand.

    • @steelsheen

      17:14 the mom says that Brendan (the younger brother) is graduating, so theres a likelihood that he may be moving out of his room, hence not having to redecorate it. also his room mightve been improved over the years so theres not much thats needed to be changed. Colin, given his condition isnt really big on change, so Kane updating his room was a risky move, but it paid off big time because Colin ended up liking the kind of changes Kane made.

      @itsgonnaBmay 6 років тому +30

      Actually I'm autistic and I'm going to be fully independent, as are many of us; but also just because you can't be independent doesn't mean you have to live with your parents forever. There are a wide range of different places with different levels of support for adults with additional needs around. You could even live alone but with a carer. Besides, just because someone can't be fully independent doesn't mean they can't be happy.

    • @tonksloopy
      @tonksloopy 6 років тому +9

      May Groves ...and the fact that you can't be 100% independent isn't shameful either. Everyone has the right to live a life that is as happy and fulfilling as it can be for the individual.

    • @itsgonnaBmay
      @itsgonnaBmay 6 років тому +1

      I can be 100% independant though. When I go to university next year I will be going alone and living in the dorms or an apartment like all the other students. Not every autistic person needs support in that sense

    • @itsgonnaBmay
      @itsgonnaBmay 6 років тому +2
