Great first reaction. BABYMETAL are the only band in my life that I’ve travelled from Uk to Japan for. It was worth every penny. Truly amazing experience. They are cute but they are also the real deal. You don’t tour the world for thirteen years as a gimmick. Enjoy the ride they are worth it.

That, I think, is one of my main takeaways from watching this. Metal can be fun. It is so tiresome to see these people that think all metal has to be "hardcore". I think it's one of the reasons I like Will Ramos so much. While performing with Lorna Shore, he gives out some of the most amazing terrifying growls and goblin screams you've ever heard, but in everything I've ever seen him on outside of the Lorna shorter videos, I want to adopt him because he's such a nice kid. LOL
Thank you for stopping by and leaving your comment!

Welcome to the Foxhole and BabyMetal's journey 🦊🤘🔥
Always glad to see new reactors getting to know this amazing group recently finished the Babyklok Tour in the US and making the fans going bonkers with this new amazing collab song along with guitar legend Tom Morello.
BabyMetal is a Japanese metal dance unit created in 2010 under another Jpop/Jrock group called Sakura Gakuin, they had 11 and 12 years old when started this and become independent after 2013, they created their own genre called kawaii-metal mixing Jpop with metal sound and different subgenres along with many more rhythms. Their name is a reference to a new genre and not related to their ages or "baby" faces, is a pun intended play words with "heavy-metal" which sounds similar to "baby-metal".
    They are:
    *SuMetal* lead vocalist, now 25.
*MoaMetal* scream and dance, now 24.
*MomoMetal* scream and dance, she's 20 and is the new official member since April 1st recently.
*YuiMetal* scream and dance, former member since 2018.
    None of them are related.
After 2018 you'll see backup dancers performing along with them but none of them are official members, they don't sing, only dance, but that status change recently like i said.
    About the song:
"This is officially the first new song by the newly reborn BABYMETAL, now consisting of SU-METAL, MOAMETAL, and MOMOMETAL.
This song is very up-tempo and one that was created with the envision of a summer festival taking place in a metal village and everyone forming a circle to celebrate the festival.
BABYMETAL is ready to make this summer even hotter with their new song.
BABYMETAL are now celebrating a very special collaboration with legendary guitarist Tom Morello from Rage Against the Machine.
This collaboration with BABYMETAL will become a very exciting opportunity for both artists transcending generations."
    Tom Morello comment:
_"I am a big fan of BABYMETAL, a band that is both power rocking and constantly surprising with dizzying musical twists and turns. I’ve been trying to work with them for some time and when they sent me the demo of METALI!! I knew I could rock that shit like crazy!"_
    Next suggestion:
    - Road Of Resistance live in Japan official live MV (2015)
I'm gonna leave in my next comment where to get safe clips to react if YT allows me to do it.
    See you next time 🦊🤘🔥

The producer and mastermind creator of this project is KobaMetal (Kei Kobayashi), they got a bunch of talented composers and musicians for different songs and when performing live you will also see a different set of musicians called Kami Band thou they're only there to play live and none of them write the music, currently the set is composed of westerners musicians but prior 2019 you'll see mainly Japanese musicians playing with them.
Btw KobaMetal is aware of Bloodywood and he likes that band.
      Songwriters on this are:
      Lyrics: METAL-NIKI
      Composers: RYU-METAL - NORiMETAL
      Arrangements: MEGMETAL.
Here's the list of live performance clips usually safe to reacts without any filters so you won't need to rely on live compilations, there might be some exceptions:
      - Headbangeeeeerrrrr!!!!! live at Legend 1997, SuMetal 16th Birthday in 2013, they got MV of this and is fun, but live is a blast.
      ua-cam.com/video/LNFiDWJh2FA/v-deo.html
      - Akatsuki, live at Budokan 2014, this is a SuMetal solo.
      ua-cam.com/video/g2372C5PJLM/v-deo.html
      - Megitsune, official MV is my first recommendation but is usually blocked if you don't put filters, so if you want live and safe to react, check it out Budokan 2014.
      ua-cam.com/video/dU38CYkpBvI/v-deo.html
      - Akatsuki Unfinished Version, SuMetal solo again but with only a piano behind special performance at Legend 1997.
      ua-cam.com/video/nwsinmxTxbo/v-deo.html
      - Babymetal Death, live at Legend 1997, this is the big finale, you're gonna blow your mind with this one.
      ua-cam.com/video/jRc9dbgiBPI/v-deo.html
      - Catch Me If You Can with Kami Band intro live at Budokan 2014.
      ua-cam.com/video/ng8U_j0gpLI/v-deo.html
      - Ijime, Dame, Zettai live at Sonisphere Festival 2014, sometimes the official live MV isn't so friendly so you know what to do.
      ua-cam.com/video/Ro-_cbfdrYE/v-deo.html
      - Rondo Of Nightmare, with Mischiefs Of Metal Gods Intro live at Budokan 2014, another SuMetal solo but way different than usual happy songs.
      ua-cam.com/video/8WBDiLMNZcE/v-deo.html
      - Doki Doki Morning, official MV, their very first song and MV full of kawaiiness, usually is safe to react so try it, if you want a live performance, this is the first proshot version with the Kami Band live at Legend 1999 (YuiMetal and MoaMetal 14th birthday).
      ua-cam.com/video/BSjv9OYtWZ0/v-deo.html
      - Uki Uki Midnight, this one is a follow up to Doki Doki Morning but way different sound, this is the PV, is super fun but the sound isn't so great but at least is live.
      ua-cam.com/video/Yj-UQIlqsIQ/v-deo.html
If you want better sound with the Kami Band, then live at Budokan 2014 it is.
      ua-cam.com/video/ESzY9dL613Q/v-deo.html
      - Onedari Daisakusen, live at Legend 1997, this is a Black Babymetal song, is a subgroup with only YuiMetal and MoaMetal.
      ua-cam.com/video/1dT1ywYR5So/v-deo.html
      - Iine! again official MV hits way better but if you want live, here live at Budokan 2014.
      ua-cam.com/video/5sCvYVNeD0w/v-deo.html
      - Karate live at Download Festival 2016, "kitsune6001" got this with a short interview intro.
      ua-cam.com/video/FKOL6v3Md2c/v-deo.html
      - Road Of Resistance live in Japan official, this one is easily to find but be careful with the blocked by putting some filters just in case.
      - Kimi To Anime Ga Mitai - Answer For Animation With You, live at Budokan 2014, not sure if it's still safe, so try some filters, if is audio blocked try to mute or just cut the parts.
      ua-cam.com/video/M8FKumvh-w8/v-deo.html
Here's a song you can find at Babymetal Reactor Resource (BMRR), a helpful place to get watermarked logo clips of the original live version to curve the annoying algo.
      - GJ! live at Wembley Arena 2016, another Black Babymetal song.
      ua-cam.com/video/Hg0Rylcg8F0/v-deo.html
This is BMRR short vid to follow instructions and get the spreadsheet with the full list.
      ua-cam.com/video/q40VmTHSh4c/v-deo.html
And here's a BM guide (the long one).
      ua-cam.com/video/gDne0xwniTg/v-deo.html
There's a more recent beginners guide at "Briaghh" called "So... What is BabyMetal?" is more short and with some fair update until this year unlike the other one.

Great reaction, thanks and welcome to BABYMETAL!
I see you have a ton of great information about them... including some walls of text... you asked for it after all. 😁 But, at this point, you need to know just a few things: they started in 2010 when they were 12 and 11 years old. They are very diverse musically, as they mix any music genre with any metal sub-genre. They are incredibly good live (even better than in the studio recordings). You will discover the rest very soon.
About the song itself, "Metali" (metari) = "metaru" (metal) + "matsuri" (traditional Japanese summer festival). So it's a "matsuri" influenced song and it's all about hyping the crowd and inviting them to dance and sing along. It has several connections to "Megitsune" both in the lyrics (chants, etc.) and the music video itself. Like when they clear the tatami by kicking aside the tea sets. In "Megitsune" they get rid of the kimonos by pulling the "obi" (kimono sash). They are apparently telling us that they put aside the more restrictive and elitist traditions in favor of the more popular and inclusive ones.
Musically, it's very groovy and funky. I love Su's clean yet aggressive vocals here. Really cool collaboration with Tom Morello who commented this: "I am a big fan of BABYMETAL, a band that is both power rocking and constantly surprising with dizzying musical twists and turns. I've been trying to work with them for some time and when they sent me the demo of 'Metali!!' I knew I could rock that shit like crazy!".
Finally, we are very happy for Momoko on her first song and music video as an official member and also for her feature on that kabuki (traditional Japanese Theater) style interlude.
Since I mentioned it before, you can try "Megitsune" (official music video) next. Or else something equally early and live like this: "Headbanger" (Live at Legend 1997): ua-cam.com/video/QEsOaMbNFww/v-deo.html
    Until next time!

You will get flooded with reactions but I think a great early launch spot is the live performance of Ijime Dame Zettai from Sonisphere 2014. Su was 16, Yui and Moa had both just turned 15. 1st big gig outside Japan. Metal festival in front of 50,000+. Many were pissed they were main stage and no one knew what to expect. That performance was in Babymetal’s own words the most important of any they have done.

You got it right with the "f word" - just saw them in Toronto and it was far and away the most enjoyable metal gig I've ever been to. The band behind the girls are absolutely incredible and the crowd interaction and just fun element of the girls. Best crowd I've been in too. They just released a live version of their song "Maya" off their newest album on their channel which has gone down well with mainstream metalheads if you wanna check it out.

Terrific reaction and comments!!! They always put a smile on my face, even in really tough times. They cured my pet loss of an 18 year old dog. I am 75 years old, and they made me fly to Japan to see my very first live, and I was crying and smiling the whole time... and before I knew it, I was running around in the circle pit to their performance of "Road of Resistance", twirling my muffler in the air. Excellent first reaction. Welcome to the BABYMETAL Foxhole.🦊 You hit the nail on the head right away, they are fun, happy metal (they can get dark and serious if they want to ('Rondo of Nightmare' would be a good example), but they make me smile.
There really is nothing you will have seen or heard that is quite like BABYMETAL ... and in well over 50 years of listening to all sorts of music, going to concerts, seeing many of the recognised great live bands in their prime, I can honestly say that no other band has provided me with the same degree of entertainment or made me enjoy music and their performances as much as BABYMETAL.
They have about 70 songs now, each one different to the last, they have songs in virtually every metal genre but will also mix and blend so many other styles and genres with the metal. Some songs are good hard metal, some lean towards their pop roots and they do everything in between.
There is a chance you may not like some songs - not a problem, just move on to another song and that may well be a new favourite for you. However, come back after a few more songs to the song you didn't like (ideally find a live version) and you may well find it wasn't bad after all ... even the more cutesy ones might make sense and you will find yourself smiling.
BABYMETAL are pretty much unique in that they invented their own genre and their own way of doing things. Do not try to categorise them as just one thing or to put them in any one box. You will not be able to predict them, just expect the unexpected. They don't copy anybody or follow the same format as nearly every other band (as you saw for a start they have brought choreographed dance to metal). Just like most vocalists in other bands they don't play the instruments. They do what they do best and have the best musicians to be found in Japan backing them up (more on them later). Nobody has been able to do what BABYMETAL do (some have tried, none came close).
They are Su-metal (lead vocalist), Moametal and, since the start of April this year, Momometal (backing vocals, harmonies but mainly in charge of dance, leading the audience, getting everybody involved and joining in).
The third original member, Yuimetal, sadly left the band in October 2018 having been absent from the stage for the previous 12 months. She had ongoing (and undisclosed) health issues.
After Yui left Su and Moa continued as a duo for the next 4 or 5 years through to their 10th anniversary and a bit beyond, supported by 3 dancers (the Avengers Riho, Kano and Momoko) taking turns dancing in the third spot. Momoko was the only remaining Avenger from about March 2020 and was finally revealed as the official new third member on 1st April this year.
This was her first video as an official member and she even got her own solo section with the Kabuki Theatre section in the middle.
They started in 2010 as a sub-unit of a school themed J-Pop Idol group called Sakura Gakuin which was set up by the Amuse talent agency as a way to coach and train about a dozen of the most talented girls on their books in all aspects of entertainment (singing, dancing, acting, modelling, writing, stage management etc) with a view to their choosing how they would like to continue their career when they were at school leaving age (15 in Japan).
BABYMETAL was the pet project of one metalhead producer who was inspired to experiment with this fusion of Metal with JPop aesthetics after seeing Su-metal singing with her previous JPop trio and being very impressed with her no holds barred singing style and stage presence - she was only 10 or 11 at that time. He pictured her fronting a metal band and got his chance to work with her when her previous group ended and she joined Sakura Gakuin.
In 2013 Su would be 15 and would graduate from Sakura Gakuin (having the school theme it was for girls aged 10 to 15), but it was decided that BABYMETAL should be her vehicle as she furthered her career as a vocalist and should separate from the Idol group to go with her as an independent band in their own right.
BABYMETAL have gone on to become one of the very best live bands on the planet (and have won many international awards to prove that is not just my opinion). Their big arena shows are spectacular, but they put on great shows every time, even in smaller venues and festivals as they tour the world where they can't always have all the special effects and flames etc too.
Early on they did not have enough budget for a live band and the guys in skeleton suits (called Babybones), who you may see in some early videos, would go on stage just for show, miming the instruments to pre-recorded backing tracks (Su-metal's singing is always live). They were phased out bit by bit after it had been decided BABYMETAL would split from Sakura Gakuin, so a live band played at a couple of festivals and the encores in some shows from October 2012.
The live band are called the Kami Band. They became the full time support for all live shows at the start of 2014 and have been with BABYMETAL ever since - but only for live shows, they do not record the studio versions. They are some of Japan's very best session musicians, each one of them a world class instrumentalist.
There are many people who have played in the Kami band as they all have their own bands or other commitments and they swap in and out depending on their availability, but the same hard core of about 6 musicians have played the vast majority of concerts and they are the ones you will see in most live performance videos.
The Kami Band of the West - American musicians - have supported BABYMETAL in the more extended foreign tours since 2019.
BABYMETAL are best experienced live. Even they say so themselves. If you do want to do more reactions Jake Muller has left a list of excellent suggestions for you as have others in the comments below.
Apologies, when I started typing I was intending to keep it short and to the point ... I will do better next time.

Welcome & Thanks from Japan 有難う💛。 This song was one in the setlist performed in their recent North American tour (total 29 gigs in Aug. thru Oct.) with Dethklok and kept blasting the audience at every venue. The title is a synthesized word from two words : "Metal" and "Matsuri 祭 (festival)" → Metali. And if you want to know the deep meaning of the lyrics please check Professor Hartley's channel (Andrew Hartley).
BABYMETAL is the best musical phenomenon I have ever experienced in my 68-year-long life. (Before BM, I was a stubborn jazz / funk lover) We say "Japan is the country obsessed by Rock Music". The history is very long and the obsession started in 1966 when Beatles visited Japan and held 5 concerts at Budokan. Speaking of hard rock / heavy metal music, a number of bands started to come to Japan since as early as 1970s : Led Zeppelin / Grand Funk Railroad (1971), Deep Purple (1972), Queen (1975), Kiss (1977), Cheap Trick / Van Halen / Scorpions (1978), Judas Priest (1978/79) and so on. Now, any type of rock can be enjoyed here, especially by many all-female or women-fronted bands. They are daughters of American / European rock, for sure. (Many are grand-daughters in terms of age.)
Uh-oh, we also say "Japan is the country obsessed by Jazz". It had started earlier than rock 😄

They're concerts are insane and very high energy. Great first reaction - but DO try to see live performances if you can (they do have some very good videos - this is one - but their studio sound is a little over produced maybe at times) - the audience is often a major part of their music. Others will give you way too much history info but I'll just add an anecdote instead. I'm 46, got into them bigtime at the beginning of this year. My wife and I saw them in Houston and Dallas just over a month ago, and it was absolutely insane. I was pretty invested and went in with what I knew were unrealistic expectations. They blew those expectations away and I was in emotional shock the first show (in a good way, just overwhelmed) their actual stage presence, the powerful sound of her voice, and the insanely quick precise and graceful movements of watching them dance in person cannot be replicated by watching videos (and I watched a ton before lol).
They are something special and make me laugh and smile and feel like a kid again. Truly awesome! Hope you enjoy!

On of one their tours they had Skynd as their opening act. Dragonforce, Polyphia, and Alissa White-Gluz have contributed to Babymetal songs. They are one of the cameos in Corey Taylor's "CMFT". The young women singing and dancing are officially Babymetal. The band behind is officially the Kami (spirits or gods) band. They don't write the music but the lead singer Su-metal has done lyrics recently. They also had Avatar as an opening act on another tour. Avatar's lead singer, Johannes Eckerström, said Babymetal wasn't what he thought of as a band, they were more like Cirque du Soleil. The Babymetal team has a reputation for being very competent, professional, hard working, and nice.
Unfortunately, to see one of their really spectacular stage shows, you have to go to a concert in Japan.
The Japanese like contrasts. You see it in Lovebite's soft white dresses or Band-Maid's maid cafe shtick. Babymetal calls their music "kawaii metal" (cute metal). It is the fusion of often very hard hitting metal with the J-Pop idol genre of cute women singing and dancing. And any other genre they want to mix in (folk metal, rap, ska, Bollywood). It works because they carry it out to perfection.

I can definitely understand that. There is a propensity for metal to be a kind of self-consuming entity. When something new or "heavier" is produced there always seems to be a mad rush to duplicate or push it as far as it can be pushed. I still love the crunch and "GRRR" inherent to metal, but this feels fresh. As an example, I love that BabyMetal, Lovebites and Hanabie all pretty much destroy the stereotypes of what a metal band is "supposed" to wear. I mean, isn't metal all about breaking stereotypes? LOL

Welcome to the Foxhole. It's called that because Babymetal's patron deity is The Fox God. Babymetal started back in 2010 when a producer from the Amuse Agency called Kei Kobayashi heard Suzuka Nakamoto singing in a short lived j-pop group called "Karen Girls" and though her voice would translate to metal music. When Su joined the Amuse school themed J-pop group "Sakura Gakuin" Kobayashi got to implement his plan. The conceit of "Sakura Gakuin" was that the girls sang all together and also as smaller sub-groups based on school clubs like cheer leading, science and cooking and "Babymetal" started as the "Heavy Metal Club" with Su as the lead singer backed by Yui Mizuno and Moa Kikuchi. The girls were just 13 and 11 at the time. They were so popular that they were spun off in 2013 with their own backing band call "The Kami Band". In 2018 Yu left because of health issues, but, curiously, she is still under contract to Amuse even though she's made no public appearances in six years. Babymetal continued with just Su and Moa for a while with replacement dancers and in early 2023 they eventually announced a new full member called Momoko Okazaki, who is also an ex-member of Sakura Gakuin.
Now to the song. The seated figure at the beginning of the video is wearing a fox mask and is playing a shamisen (a Japanese 3 stringed instrument) which we hear through out the song. The title of the song is "Metali" and is a mash up of "Metal" and the word for Japanese summer festivals, "matsuri" and it encourages everyone to get up and dance. The summer festival references are also seen in the crouched dancing, and the backup dancers wearing hyotoko masks.
The instrumentation and the staging of the video reminds me of the 2013 video BM did for Megitsune, In that they challenged Japanese traditional attitudes towards women and in the "Metali" video they also break some Japanese taboos; they wear outside boots on tatami mats, they kick over tea trays and they have Momoko doing some kabuki style vocals and posing which is traditionally only performed by men. So I recommend you next check out the official "Megitsune" video from back in 2013 with the OG members Su, Moa and Yui and you'll see the changes and similarities. Then check out "Headbanger Legend 1997" and "Road of Resistance Live in Japan".

Great first reaction, glad you enjoyed it! Easy digest on Babymetal: they are 100% a manufactured group who do not write or compose their music (a few songs as exceptions), and do not play instruments. Babymetal is just the 3 gals who is backed by an extremely talented session band for all live shows (but not studio). By definition, they are structured like your typical “idol” group.
Now, with that out of the way, you can just appreciate them for who they are, and the music and performance art the entire Babymetal team creates. They certainly converted my cynical self who despises the typical “idol culture”. 🫨 😅
Oh, and yes, they WILL be overboard cutsie: “Gimme Chocolate”.
But they go hard AF too: “BABYMETAL DEATH” (Legend 1997 concert).
How about an epic classic power metal anthem with Dragonforce co-writting guitars? “Road of Resistance” official.
Perhaps some operatic power metal ballad solo epic vocals? “Akatsuki” (Bundokan 2014)
Or, a hard hitting song against bullying and a 1st time performance on a western stage to 50k+ confused metal heads: “Ijime, Dame, Zettai” Live, Sonisphere 2014 UK.
Okay okay, what I’m trying to say is, ditch the traditional Metal ethos, and just enjoy more Babmetal. You’ll thank your open minded approach later, and understand why Rob Halford, Rob Zombie, Tom Morello, Korn, Metallica, and many more gave them their approval. 😎🙏.

In addition, while manufactured, their avid metal-head producer started this project to reinvigorate heavy metal in Japan, with minimal financial backing (because an unproven concept in 2010). Babymetal earned their fan base from small food court side stages at small venues in early 2010s to 55k sold out Tokyo Dome 2 nights in a row in 2016. The whole team, especially the girls work their tales off year after year since they were 12/11 years old when group started.

As someone who comes from a place where extreme metal has always been my go to, who is now a new fan that got dosed hard by early Babymetal (when it was super cute); part of the freakiness of all of this is once you start to take it serious (the cute factor coupled with metal), and you will, you undergo a crazy red pill experience where you realise the entirety of how you enjoyed metal up until this point was nothing more than an illusion like every other form of media entertainment. At least for me. I just accepted it and let it happen. I didn’t “become” a Babymetal fan so much as Babymetal just came to my doorstep and I had to accept it had rights to be there along with every other metal band who deserved a seat at the table.
With that in mind, looking at their history up until now, and how metalheads like us react to them, they really are the bastard love child of heavy metal, and I think the name ironically fits that well. Nobody expected them to be here, some like Rob Zombie recognised them and accepted them, but others can’t accept that metal as a genre has spread it’s seed to completely different cultures from our own and has produced THIS. An idol dance/singalong group of cute Japanese girls doing over the top stage theatrics to heavy metal. Nobody expected this would open a portal to hell that would take over the world by storm.
Others have mentioned their live performance with Maya, which is a good one. But if you are feeling up to getting hit by full blown cuteness factor, check out their first ever single, Doki Doki Morning. That song gives me chills simply because it is a great place to compare where they came from to now with performances like Maya.

Good reaction. Welcome to the crazy universe of BabyMetal.
BabyMetal is an atypical heavy metal group, because they are idols. In Japan, idols are often paired with pop music (Jpop), and Babymetal was actually a subgroup of a larger idol group called Sakura Gakuin.
Sakura was made up of girls between 10 and 15 years old dedicated to Jpop. When SuMetal (the singer) started she was 12 years old and MoaMetal/YuiMetal (the backup singers) were only 10 years old. Sakura represented the Japanese high school and the girls were distributed in clubs (traditional Japanese extracurricular activities such as cooking, swimming, basketball, sewing, etc.).
One of the producers, a lover of heavy metal, saw that Su's singing could perfectly be used in metal and asked permission from the Mother House (Amuse) to create the heavy music club, proposing an experiment in fusion between metal and the pop. Nobody, as they themselves have confessed, had much hope for its outcome, but they gave it the green light and thus BabyMetal, Sakura Gakuin's heavy music club, was born.
The first songs were intended for girls between 10 and 15 years old, who were Sakura's target audience. However, their quality and the fusion between pop and metal attracted attention beyond this audience and they began to frequent their metal concerts... a shocking audience of children and metalheads.
And it worked, it worked so well that they began to support groups like Metallica, Red Hot, BMTH or Lady Gaga, I seem to remember, on their tours in Japan. And the Red Hot singer commented that he was impressed to realize that part of the public came to see them, not them.
And so the base of BabyMetal fans grew. Sakura was a group in which, upon turning 15, the members had to leave (to pursue their careers elsewhere) and the producer (KobaMetal) requested permission again to create BabyMetal as an independent group. Success was already beginning to become a reality in Asia, so they authorized it, although Moa and Yui (they were still 13 years old) would also continue to be part of other Sakura clubs (I don't know when the poor girls studied, but they did).
In 2014 a milestone would arrive in the group's history. They were already an established metal group in Asia that sold out concerts, but they had not yet made the leap to the West. In that year his song "Gimme Chocolate" rose to fame on UA-cam (currently 182M views) and attracted the attention of the producers of the Sonisphere festival. KobaMetal had doubts about taking the step, since their musical proposal (Kawaii Metal or Cute Metal, a genre of which they are considered creators) might not be accepted in the West and the metalheads who went to the Sonisphere had a reputation for saying goodbye to very bad manners to the artists they didn't like (even with bottles full of urine), but they were offered to go to one of the secondary stages (about 5000 spectators) and they ended up accepting.
But the success of BabyMetal on UA-cam and the fact that all the concerts they were going to give in Europe were sold out in a few days, convinced the producers to take them to the main stage, where they would share with groups like Metallica, for example.
How many girls (they were between 16 and 14 years old at that time) were "terrified" before going out, and they didn't know what scared them more: that they wouldn't understand their music and they would have to run away or that when they went out on stage it would be empty. .
But the story was very different, not only was it not empty, but more than 50,000 metalheads, an estimated 95% of whom had never heard of them, finished their fifth and last song chanting "another one, another one."
And that's how they achieved popularity in the West as well.
They currently have 4 albums on the market:
-Babymetal (2013): Their first album and the most childish of all, since they were between 15-13 years old when it came out and had energetic, positive music that left a smile on their faces. Headbangers is from this album.
-Metal Resistence (2016): an album that, without losing the essence of the first, shows more mature music, going from childhood to adolescence. Songs like Karate were a large part of his presentation in the West.
-Metal Galaxy (2018): a turning point in its style. Without abandoning their energy, they turned their attention to new forms of metal fusion (hip-hop, dance music, Hindu music or European folklore, among others), projecting a much more mature music in keeping with their age, which was already around 21 years old. of Su and the 18 of Moa (unfortunately Yui left the group due to health problems)
And now in 2023 they have just released their new album "The Other One", which is, again, totally different from what they have done until now (one of the hallmarks of BabyMetal is that their songs are usually very different some from others (although they are all positive adrenaline releases)
Currently BabyMetal is considered the most important Heavy Metal group in Japan (I'm not saying the best, that's for everyone to decide) and the most influential in history in the West (it has reached levels that no other Japanese heavy group has reached before). ).
The journey through the Babymetal galaxy may be long, but it is certainly entertaining and with a few songs it drags you with a smile into the fox hole.

    BABYMETAL 101
Babymetal is a Japanese group founded in 2010 and produced by Kei “Koba” Kobayashi from the Amuse Inc. talent agency. Babymetal name comes from the birth of a new style of metal fusing j-pop with metal creating what they call Kawaii Metal (Cute-Metal).
The group currently consists of Suzuka Nakamoto aka “Su-Metal” (25 years old) sometimes referred to as Vocal and Dance. Moa Kikuchi aka "Moametal", pronounced as Moa-Metal (23 years old) as part of Scream and Dance. Momoko Okazaki aka Momometal (20 years old) as part of Scream and Dance. They are supported by a rotating selection of talented male backing musicians known as the Kami Band (Kami is usually poorly translated as gods, but in truth it more closely means awe inspiring spirit, entity, or object) It is why they are dressed in white to look like ghosts or spirits, though Kami being used as God(s) is so common in translation the white outfits get lost.)
    Past Formations.

From 2010 to 2012 Babymetal consists of a three-member formation, Suzuka Nakamoto (Age 12), Moa Kikuchi (Age 10), and Yui Mizuno aka "Yuimetal" pronounced Yui-Metal. (Age 10). First starting out as the Heavy Music Club as a subunit within the Developmental Idol Group created by Amuse in 2010 known as Sakura Gakuin. Sakura Gakuin is a group that introduces girls between the ages of 10-15 to music, dance, modeling, and acting through Japanese Pop idol music and culture. Given a school theme, all three would be a part of Sakura Gakuin until their graduation from it in the same school year they would graduate from Japanese middle school or 15 years old. Suzuka graduated in March 2013, and Moa and Yui in March of 2015. Sakura Gakuin is a fantastic group with great kawaii jpop songs in their own right. During this time there was no lore, and the girl’s costumes were more punkish in nature, which they helped create. They also didn’t perform with live music, using a backing track or the “Skeleton band” people pretending to play music behind them.

    Babymetal/ Metal Resistance Era (2012-2017)
Starting in 2012 with the Legend I concert, Babymetal began its slow divorce from Sakura Gakuin, and was the first introduction of the Kami Band as well as the “Lore” that is still heavily involved in Babymetal but makes far less sense than it did during this time. The Lore is complex and involves a battle against other evil idol corporations, gaining powers, some time travel, running a resistance group, all at the direction of a mythical deity known as the fox god, against an all-power enemy known as Akiba. The first Legend show “I” was the Kami Bands introduction to the end, but it also had the Skeleton Band which is seen in the wildly popular Gimmie Chocolate Music Video. This was followed by Legend D, and then Legend Z, in which it was learned that Babymetal would continue as its own entity after Suzuka’s graduation from Sakura Gakuin in March of 2013. Slowly over 2013 the Skeleton Band would be phased out of all live shows, as Babymetal came into their own.
Babymetal as it is with Su-Metal, Moametal, Yuimetal, the Kami Band, and a somewhat understandable lore is what consisted for the majority of its existence. Also established beyond the 3-member formation, they had 2 other set ups, one was what fans called Su-Solos, and it would just be Su on stage with the Kami band, performing a solo, and the other is known as Black Babymetal by the band themselves, which consisted of just Moa and Yui.

The Dark Times, The Chosen 7 Era (2018)
In December 2017, Yui would miss the Legend-S concert for health reasons, these health problems would prosiest into 2018 and greatly affect the 2018 touring season bring the “Chosen 7” formation, consisting of Suzuka Nakamoto, Moa Kikuchi, and 2 backing dancers Minako Maruyama, and Minami Tsukui. Changes they would not tell fans and all throughout 2018 communicate extraordinarily little causing lots of pain for all involved fan and performer. This era is noted by their strange armor like costumes, sometimes referred to as Elf Armor. To make the poor communication, and Yui’s absence wasn’t bad enough, one of the more regular Kami band members, Mikio Fujioka passed away after falling off a balcony in late December 2017 while star gazing. A beloved and incredibly talented musician lost, leaving behind his wife and only child.
In September 2018 Yui formally resign from Babymetal, stating her unspecified health and wishing to move on. Babymetal themselves announced that the group will move on focusing on Suzuka and Moa. (Something many idiots within the fandom refused or were too stupid to understand and formed the cancerous Yui-Cultists that would plague the fandom until Momometals debut. There are some holdouts, but thankfully they have become very rare.)
In October Babymetal had a concert called Dark Night Carnival which added dancers, Shoko Akiyama, Saya Hirai, and Kotono, placing a total of seven girls on stage. This was also done without warning to fans and was an absolute mess. Babymetal would finish off the 2018 tour season returning to the 3-member formation with just Saya Hirai joining them in southeast Asia and Australia. Ending one of the most troubling times in Babymetal’s history.

Metal Galaxy Era (2019- Feb 2020)
First introduced in 2019 during the Babymetal Arises concert in Yokohama, before the start, the “Avenger” support dancer concept was explained in the lore, and the concept thanks to communication and a maintaining of the 3-member formation brought Babymetal out of dark times brought about during 2018. Babymetal seemed to have returned to its roots with the Avengers, as 2 of the three (Kano and Momoko) come from Sakura Gakuin. The third Riho, went to the same performing arts school as Suzuka during the same time, Actors School Hiroshima aka ASH.

    (Avenger confusion)
Which Avenger one sees can be confusing for those new to Babymetal. For the Music Videos, Pa Pa Ya, Elevator Girl, and Shanti Shanti Shanti, it is Kano Fujihira, who was just 14 years old at the time. Da Da Dance is a compilation of Momoko and Riho and a splicing of 2 different shows. In most fan cam videos of the American and European tour it would be either Riho or Momoko, as they toured with Babymetal in 2019. Kano had responsibilities with Sakura Gakuin as its president, a position Suzuka and Moa both held in Sakura Gakuin, and she’s never flown on a plane before.
Some fans for 2019 did throw a stupid temper tantrum over the use of new Kami Band members who are from the west now known as the West Coast Kami Band, but like how the girls won over many, so did they and the payoff with the Legend Metal Galaxy concert in 2020 was well worth it.

COVID Era (Mar 2020 to April 2021)
COIVD-19 has messed up a lot of things for everyone, Babymetal had to cancel their Asian tour, as well their big 10th Anniversary on October 10, 2020. Forced to keep it rather tame something very unlike Babymetal as even in their failures like the entire 2018 tour they do it septically. The question for many fans at the time was what of the Avengers, since COVID, Avenger Riho Sayashi has signed with a new agency and has moved on to other projects, including starting a fan club. Kano Fujihara graduated from Sakura Gakuin on August 30, 2020, a near 4-month delay. However, she and fellow Sakura Gakuin graduates Soyoka Yoshida, Tsugumi Aritomo, and Momoe Mori in the formation of @onefive. Which leaft Momoko Okazaki who is a graduate of Sakura Gakuin in March 2018 would be the last standing Avenger until she would become the new member of Babymetal.

      Post 10-year Anniversary/ Covid Era Part 2 (May 2021-September 2022)
The band stepped back from live shows due to the Covid-19 Pandemic and focusing on the sale of Merch. The band spent time working on a new concept album and was never shut down for a hiatus.
Momoko had a very very short stint in a Korean Idol Competition Show called Planet 99. She performed perfectly, better than most of the other girls in the show. She even got the most votes in a small side competition destroying all the other 98 girls in the show in votes. This won her some hair dye (She was blonde for a bit). Ultimately be it dumb BM fans thinking the side competition was the actual competition, how the judging was heavily skewed to Korean voters, the fact that her fate was tied to 2 other girls one Korean and one Chinese, and or possibly ridged voting something the company producing the show has done in the past, Momoko was eliminated in the very first round.
The Other One (October 2022-April 2023)
They have released 5 songs on UA-cam, they performed a show in January 2023 where they performed these new songs leading up to the released of their Album in March with 10 new songs. During January and February shows Su and Moa were supported by Momoko. On April First (Fox Day) Their new show played many new and old songs as well as officially made Momoko Okazaki aka Momometal the official 3rd member. Bringing Babymetal back to a 3-member unit once again. This all kicked off their world tour in touring with Sabaton in Europe then Asia and Australia, and tours in US in the fall and a solo tour in Europe in winter, with a tour finally in Japan in 2024.

My feelings about Babymetal are, there's no deception involved. They've been transparent about who plays the instruments, how the group works, and god knows there's a billion western bands where the front person/lead singer is there to be charismatic and attractive. They're really good live (the live version of Metali has a really fun growled vocal from one of the girls at one point that the MV version lacks). It comes down to if you like the voices or not. The fact that some pretty legit rock/metal people like them is telling. You're gonna get flooded with recommendations so I won't bother, but definitely pick one of their live performances at some point.

I agree. It is a finely tuned stage presentation that, in my eyes, is no different than an opera or musical. I have had a lot of people recommend reacting to a live performance, so one of those will be next! Thank you for your comment!

Well, you’ve opened a can of worms!
BABYMETAL has been around for a bit over twelve years now (they started when their lead singer - known as Su-metal (Suzuka Nakamoto) - was about twelve, and the two "cheerleaders" (or the “Greek chorus” as I like to call them - officially "scream and dance" and backing vocals) - Moametal (Moa Kikuchi) and Yuimetal (Yui Mizuno) - were both around eleven. Unfortunately, Yui left the band in 2018, and only earlier this year Momometal (Momoko Okazaki) was named a member of the group. They do not play instruments but are backed by the Kami Band - session musicians who are among the best that Japan (and the U.S.) has to offer. Alas, I, too, was late to this party but I think I've gotten up to speed now. 😉
BABYMETAL started a brand new genre of music ("kawaii metal" - cute metal), and they cannot be pigeon-holed - they are almost always thinking and moving outside box; they made listening to metal FUN! They have, to date, four studio albums, and have been on a number of world tours. It is common knowledge among their devoted fans (known as "The One") that BABYMETAL is best served live, but they do have several music videos that are real works of art. If you have a notion to check out more BABYMETAL, I suggest you go back to the beginning, and react to their first two music videos, "Doki Doki Morning" and "Iine!" (pronounced "E-nay"), both released in 2012. I'm sure you will find both very entertaining. There is a playlist on UA-cam ("BABYMETAL Top Twenty") that includes those two songs and the one you just reacted to; I highly recommend you give it a look, it has a mix of MV’s and live performances, and could be considered a road map down the BABYMETAL foxhole (you're in for a wild ride!!!).
(This music video would have been so much better had they not had Vin Diesel in the background wearing a panama hat and pretending to play guitar. 😁 )
    Keep rockin' BABYMETAL!!!
    KITSUNE UP!!! 🤘🦊🤘

I appreciate your comments and enthusiasm.
I am, however, hoping that you were joking about the presence of Tom Morello. Being one of the most talented and innovative guitarists that has ever lived, it was seeing that he was featured that finally got me to give Babymetal a listen because of seeing him as part of it validated the band for me.
If he collaborated, then I know that it was worth listening to.
      Just saying.
Thank you for taking the time to watch and comment!
PS - if you don't know who Tom Morello is, listen to a little band called Rage Against the Machine. He can play circles around 99.9% of every guitarist on Earth.

@@ThePentagenarian Yes, I was joking. But, to be quite honest with you, I think this song would have been just as good if one of the Kami Band was playing the guitar. This is not to take away from Mr. Morello's talent, but if you listen to more BABYMETAL, you'll discover that their backing band is quite phenomenal as well (I suggest you watch "Catch Me If You Can" listed on the "BABYMETAL Top Twenty" that I provided). I am of the belief that the involvement of Mr. Morello was a ploy to introduce BABYMETAL to a wider audience, just as was their collab with Lil Uzi Vert.
      Keep rockin’ BABYMETAL!!!

"a few others" includes over 300 bands like Metallica, Slipknot, Rob Zombie, Slayer, Iron Maiden, BMTH, RHCP, Anthrax, Megadeth, Archenemy, QUEEN, KISS, Guns n Roses, KORN, FFDP and the list is way too long to list them all here.
Rob Halford not only fully supports the girls, but two of his iconic songs are sung in duet with Su. Yeah, it includes THAT one too.
Babymetal is a very very deep rabbit hole, and they actually invented the kawaii metal genre (cute metal). Don`t be fooled, while most of their music is indeed happy/cheery (they were 10 and 12 years old when they started performing on stage so their songs couldn`t be hateful or fight the govt, etc) they have quite a few songs that make hardcore metal bands look like kindergartners. Babymetal is one of those few bands that really steps out of their comfort zone: a song about chocolate, a song about crucifying your vocalist on the stage, a song about hide-and-seek, a song about a fruit (?!!), a song about first metal experience, throw in a indian metal song, a rap battle with metal nay-sayers purists, few heart breaking songs, showcase of band members instrument skills, some more cheering, a song about oops being late to school ... you get it.
Oh yeah, as you have guessed it, their live shows are INSANE in Japan. Fun fact: BABYMETAL was the youngest artist ever to perform at Tokyo Dome Arena. What's so special about that ? At Tokyo Dome you don`t chose to play, you get there to perform only after being invited to do so.

Babymetal isn't so much a "band" as it is a metal performance group. Mixing the elements of Japanese Idol culture with Heavy Metal. Their name being a play on words when spoken in Japanese. ヘビーメタル (Heavy Metal/hebi-metaru) and ベビーメタル(Baby Metal/bebi-metaru). The Babymetal project is Amuse Talent Agency producer Kei Kobayashi's, aka Koba-Metal, brainchild. Babymetal IS Koba-Metal. It's his ideas, his music, his direction. There are a team of ghost writers with cryptic "Metal" names such as Meg-metal, K-B Metal, Yoyu-Metal, Kitsune of Metal, etc. etc. Some deep digging by fans have revealed who some of these writers are though. All prominent Japanese song writers and artists. The accompanying live band were a rotating list of the very best session players in Japan, notably Takayoshi Ohmura, Bohte Daisuke/BOH, Hideki Aoyama, and the late great Mikio Fujiyoka. As of 2019, they have rotated with a "Western" Kami band, ex-Galactic Empire members Chris Kelly, CJ Masciantonio, Clint Tustin, and Shadow of Intent drummer Anthony Barone (THE BEAST!).
The actual instrumentalists on the studio recordings are not known nor given any credits.
So yeah. Not a "band". More a Heavy Metal Performance Group complete with a very VERY convoluted lore involving a Fox God and a Metalverse, choreography, and theatrics, that highlight a very cultural Japanese theme.
Plus they're a lot of fun. You juuust missed their US tour with Dethklok. And what a tour it was! Maybe you can watch some fan cam at least🤷😂

You're in danger of becoming a misery metal gatekeeper. 😂
I'm a 58 yr old metal head by the way, and Babymetal gave the metal genre the savage kick up the arse that it needed. The scene had gone stale, most bands were just growlers , screamers or 80s hairbear bunch reinventions.
They brought me back to metal and music in general. And they do kick that devil bullshit into touch too thankfully.
You're on the edge of the foxhole now. Will you dive in or run away?
