1st impressions of the Jotul F100

- This is my first look at the Jotul F100. There will be a few other videos about this stove on the channel, including the full review which will be linked at the end.

The door opening aperture could be an issue especially when it’s belting out the heat, allowing it to,open more than 90 degrees I think is essential if only from a safety point of view, it’s great to get the door out of the way when loading logs, more of a consideration for the less abled bodied or older generation. It would also be handy for access when cleaning, bit of an oversight from Jotul there I think. Great vid, yet again! You guys are smashing it ! Keep up the great work guys!

I know what you mean about the size, but ever since I used that Clock stove 🤯. I’ve never seen a 5kw that’s bigger than that 😆

I’ve always liked the Viking stove. It’s never been cheap, but looks like such a beast.
I just got one of them for free. It had been left outside and got all rusty (only surface rust) and I have already redone the inside panels. The outside needs taken apart a little more before it goes in my sand blaster. I need to buy new glass for it as it is broke in half. Oh and I live in Seattle Washington USA. This stove is beautiful and when it is done It will be a work of art.

Couldn’t agree more with the door not opening more than 90°, that would drive me mad. It’s such an obvious thing to do, get the door out of the way when loading, cleaning, maintaining etc, I think it’s so odd for companies that produce these stoves not to take it onboard?

What are your thoughts on the Mk1 woodburner, it has no bottom control, just top.
I am looking to replace a ghastly Arada eco friendly pile, it is almost impossible to regulate from new.
I would expect it to be much better than your current stove in terms of control and burn time, but sadly nowhere near as efficient. So it will be a little swings and roundabouts. But of course there are lots of stoves with high efficiency and good control so there is certainly a solution out there👍

Another Jotul stove that has been discontinued over here in the USA due to the new 2020 regs.
This is the new Eco version, which is approved all across Scandinavia, Europe and the UK. I would expect the discontinued version was the previous version. It may be they can bring this to the US, but I realise that isn’t necessarily very cheap to achieve. I would guess it was a cost issue more than an efficiency etc.
@@TheTortoise I wonder if it would pass our stringent regs over here? The new 2020 EPA regs forced most stove manufactures to add catalytic combustors to pass. There are a few non cat stoves that passed but they pretty much had to open up more combustion air and that hurts burn times. Any catalytic stoves in the UK?
@@wobdeehomestead yes Cats are becoming more and more common here too. The right stoves should pass and still give reasonable control, I think I the main issue is the cost and how different our markets are. Here smaller is typically better (our most common size is 5kw), where as America and Canada tend to need larger output stoves. These European brands put most of their R and D effort into smaller stoves, because of the size of the market, which leaves them less inclined to invest in their larger stoves. And when you add in the cost of getting stoves approved and into America, a lot of them just can’t be bothered. It’s a shame really, I’d like to connect the markets a bit more and hopefully one day do some reviews of some American appliances. I think Vermont castings might be a starting point. Do you know which is the most popular Vermont stove (Encore, Defiant)??
Goofy ashpan when you have to let the fire out to empty it.

Yea. Although the idea generally is you don’t empty it often, so when it’s out (once a fortnight or so) you can empty the pan.
@@TheTortoise well as a Canadian in "the colonies" we'll run my jotul 600 24/7 for weeks. Something not so necessary in your more temperate climes
Ah but a 600 doesn’t have an ash pan does it?
Definitely a more focused and serious use stove, so sounds like you’ve got the right thing.
@@TheTortoise yes the ash pan comes out the bottom front through a separate door beneath the glass doors. It also has a side door to feed wood lengthwise from the right side. Supposedly wood can be 24 inches but 22 is more realistic. My single wall pipe exits straight up into a 28 ft vaulted ceiling through the roof adjacent the roof ridge. All this at an altitude of 5,070 ft within sight of the Pacific Ocean and in view of San Diego and Tijuana Mexico. We just had over a foot of snow at this altitude and it's melting as we speak
Oh yes I know the one you mean. That ash pan set up is a little different. But a serious bit of kit!
