Perfect timing! I decided to go with the Carlsbad, your review helped get me off the fence. Took my first ride and it performed well with just a t-shirt in 53 degrees. Looking forward to putting it through the paces in Scotland, Ireland, and Spain this spring/summer. Cheers!
I just find it hard to beat the versatility of armor with gear on top like Mosko. I can throw a heated jacket under the armor when it’s really cold. You will need to stop to take off a jacket, but you can get much cooler and just as warm. I have a Rev’It! Dominator, Cayenne 2, and Tornado 2 and they only get usage when I’m just road touring.
Yea agreed.. klim makes stuff big enough for us big guys. Im 6'6" 300 lbs and the only other gear that fits is MSR. which works well also and not as pricey.. but they dont have as much features as the klim...
Yes...it is expensive to say the least....as I said...maybe chess checknout MSR gear...and look at Ben (Dork in the Road) or Ian (Big Rock Moto)...and see their reviews on MSR....could be a solid option...have a great Christmas and New Years as well!!!
Hey great video I’m just curious on your opinion on my situation I’m new to adv riding I have a Carlsbad set I bought last year and I was thinking about purchasing the badlands or a3 set because I was really hot riding from work in my Carlsbad so I where it in the cold morning then I ride home just in normal clothing because it’s hot and it’s a shame because if something happens the gear won’t help when it’s in my paniers do you think I will be happier with the badlands venting in both the summer and winter morning and afternoon? I know everyone is different I’m just curious what you would do I saw you say the Carlsbad works better in the heat for you then the badlands and that part is worrying me about this purpose I’m buying it for I was so hot in my Carlsbad I had to pull over on the freeway and strip it off I live in California btw so we do have warm afternoons and cold cold mornings most the time in NorCal thank you any advice helps
@@JosephMejia-gi7hv well...I've ridden multiple BDRS and all in the heart of summer...and the Carlsbad works best...the Badlands is so heavy...so I make sure all the vents are open...I use the hooks on the jacket for the collar and only zip up 3/4....this creates enough air flow for me...and again I've ridden in 100 degree weather. I don't know if this helped. I just find the Badlands too heavy in summer...great the rest of the year. If you can buy it...I recommend the Baja Jacket from Klim it's super breathable and protective.....good luck.
Thanks for the run-down of these two jackets.. Question - what is the top-box you have on your bike opinion the background? It looks interesting! Greetings from New Zealand! 🇳🇿
Thanks for comments and watching…the Top Box is a Nanuk Case - Thats what I carry my drone, batteries and camera gear in…water and dust proof and a slot for my Mac…great case!!!
The Badlands is awesome and does have great ventilation but just heavy ..sooo if you are in warmer weather most of the time...go Carlsbad...it a lighter...
You can make the adjustments on the inside of the pants…there is Velcro to raise or lower the armor in the knee…plus the sag you have will go up a little because of the boots you wear…so no real issues….just turn the leg inside out and you can adjust…hope this helps!!!!
What would you recommend for someone who wants the most versatile jacket possible? I live in Texas but travel out west a lot and I dont like having different gear for every situation. I heard the Badlands is more "on road" oriented and the Carlsbad is "offroad" oriented. I also wear the alpinestars inflatable vest in case of a crash.
The Carlsbad with layers is perfect for year round....the Badlands is heavy and gets hot...it does have a lot of vents...but heavy and hot...I only wear it late fall to early spring because it does have an extra thickness....if I had to pick one...Carlsbad....
there are two pockets that you can add armour if you want...they are multi purpose but you can put pads in them...I just walked out in my garage and double checked...appreciate the question....made me do a double thought on it myself...ha!!!

I agree with I find Klim is well worth the extra money. As usual great video 😊
Thank you!!!

If you want gear that fits well Rukka is the way to go. But also rather expensive.
Everything I hear klim is great gear, I just can’t afford it. Maybe I’ll ask Santa for some. lol! I hope you have a great Christmas and New Year.

Hey, I’ve heard the knee pads on the Carlsbad pants don’t fit (line up with your knee) correctly, what is your experience?

@@lifesjourneyat50 Awesome! Thank you
so you can add chest armor into the Carlsbad?
there are two pockets that you can add armour if you want...they are multi purpose but you can put pads in them...I just walked out in my garage and double checked...appreciate the question....made me do a double thought on it myself...ha!!!
Ok…. I’m German but at 6’9 and 330lbs I think I match the definition of a “big guy”! 😂
Haha...yes a big guy you would be in that bucket...haha
