I agree, would love a substance painter walk through in paint it. Also, I'm working on a little more complex gear from an older tutorial, using cleanup tool, which is supposed to add more support for holes, but it doesn't work. I have Maya 201 and never used the Cleanup tool. If you have a tutorial on it, would love a link.
