Yep I did. And the best part is I had tried doing Andrew's tutorial in Maya by myself, but your video is really helping to know what things I could have done better. Thanks a lot
This is so underrated Maya is the industry standard software and the fact that you're dedicating an entire tutorial to one the most steep learning software is just exemplary! I deeply appreciated this! Thank you!
Blender Guru and CG Geek are both excellent UA-cam channels for learning Blender. I'm still WAY more comfortable with Maya, but I can see why a free, extremely versatile software like Blender is so popular.
This is my 2nd go round with this tutorial and I'm proud to say my doughnut looks similar to the one in the video. The first time I ended up extruding all the faces in the icing. It looked bumpy like a jelly doughnut. I feel like I'm actually learning. Thank you!
Will we be learning creating the exact texture on that doughnut? Because these cuts, bumps etc. and color variations looks really nice and would be great to get an proper idea how to achieve it in arnold or any render engine or even in substance painter.
I'm new to 3D stuff, started with Blender, thought Maya was way harder, but turns out that Maya is much more intuitive and practical at times lol Blender is a PITA... Just wish Maya's interface wasn't so ugly but that's not a big deal
Hey Mike , Nice tutorial . I have a doubt there. In the donut there is supposed to be two layers, 1. Base 2. Icing. But when I select the donut, it comes in a single layer. how do I fix this?
Kind of a random question, but why do you still work with the blue background? It seems mostly everyone has switched over to grey, and I'm wondering if you have it because of nostalgia. Great video series as well! I've been waiting to see this done on Maya.
Mike Hermes That’s all I need to hear! The only reason I prefer the grey is that my edges stand out a bit more on the background, but I can’t question the man who is teaching me 😁
Just in case you're still interested or if anyone else comes across this comment wondering the same thing: once you have soft-selection enabled, holding B and left-click-dragging with the mouse will increase/decrease the falloff radius. This can also be changed in your Tool Settings window under the Soft Selection tab, as well as other useful settings such as the falloff curve. Hope this helps!
Because it is considered good practice in case you ever want to animate ( or deform ) the mesh. If all squares are equal in size the deformation will be more equal
Hi, First time on your channel, because you mentioned blender, I'm a blender user. Great tutorial for maya users. You should try blender for tutorials, Pretty sure you're a professional and will get more subs hehe, It's great to have a good teacher in blender on youtube like Andrew Price.
Taylor, trust me, the Blender Doughnut was not free. Andrew spent a lot of time and effort into making that Doughnut series. He just decided to make it available for free, because he's that kind of guy.
@Taylor Reess, I FULLY agree with you. Maya is OVERPRICED: Maya is $1,545 "PER YEAR"... I wouldn't pay more than 250$ for a full Maya license. Note: I am purely talking about the software price... Maya is a rip-off at its best :-) :-) :-)
its quite mind-bending how they can charge that much for a software even though I can get a comparable quality with Blender. and now that Blender 2.8 supports UDIMS it's just not worth getting MAX to MAYA.
Honestly , as a Maya user I have been testing and playing with Blender because of the recent hype of the Blender 2.8 version. After awhile I am asking myself now why one would use Maya ? Blender is really really good.Maya costs allot of money.Blender is free and does everything.....better and faster and above all does allot more than Maya.Don't get me wrong,Maya is a Awasome software. To all the people that would like to start with 3D art,use Blender. If you use and learn Maya, using the student version, eventually you will get to a point where you do it for a living and maybe will not be able to affort it.Just my advice :)
I love blender, but as a student we study Maya. Blender is arguably even more advanced but because its open source all the support available is community driven and companies don't want to rely on that, so they're reluctant to switch over - that's why the industry standard is still Maya, though freelancers go blender.
Very good tutorial, good work, and i dont use autodesk i use litle before 10 years i use linux and autodesk dont have suport for linux :(....but i like maya and i won to learn....
What was great in Andrew's tutorial was that it was for beginners. He explained everything he was doing assuming no knowledge on the viewer side. I appreciate what you are doing, but to be honest there is a lot of magic in what you are showing. You are assuming that viewer actually has some Maya knowledge. For example switching views for you is something so obvious it requires no explanation... and that is moment when I was already lost. You assume that viewer knows all the shortcuts that you are using so you are not explaining it, just saying that "you do that, you go there".... and I personally have no idea how you do that. This makes Andrew's tutorial much more useful than this one.
@@MHTutorials3D I have reached to a point where I had trouble to do some things in Blender. Some parts of it were just not enough for me. I can’t found the period or point key? D:
the . key
The . key. The thing at the end of a sentence
On my European keyboard it works with this symbol ">"

B + drag or middle mouse button to change selection size
