      Thank you so much for your service Ray! I totally get you! I can recommend you a book called Atomic Habits by James Clear. Hell give you tons of ways of getting done what you want to get done in the easiest way possible. One tip is to make it super easy to work in your stuff. Example. If you’re practicing card tricks, Leave the cards out of the box, on top of the Matt in front of the mirror so you can instantly start using them. Also tell yourself you’re only going to do X for 1 min. After that you’ll stop. What will happen is most likely you’ll continue. The hardest bit is to start. Once we do, momentum takes care of the rest. Another tip is to count backwards from 5, when you get to one you HAVE to do X. Hope this my friend!

      Hey Kevin! Thank you so much for sharing. It sounds like you know what you’d like to do already. I would encourage to dive deep and ask yourself, find out why you choose one activity over the other. What shift would have to take place in order for you end the struggle. Is there something you must believe to be “true” in order for this to happen. Is this belief helpful? Where did it come from? Could it be you’re unconsciously choosing the “safest” choice? I’m not entirely sure, why I wrote all these questions down. Hopefully they’ll help you out and remember you can all of the above, you can make creating, practicing and commenting a reward for having worked on your website, posting content and marketing yourself. I believe in you dude! Use the SAME energy you do in your distractions in your goals and you’ll SURPRISE yourself in just one month 🤜🤛

    Thats fantastic Jav! My biggest struggle in magic - The clip shift. Card on top always moves as I'm doing the move. More practice is needed!

    • @magicianjavier
      @magicianjavier  Рік тому +1

      Thank you David! That’s tough move! More practice will do it, feel free to check out my practice video to speed up the process 🤓
      If the top card is moving while you’re stealing the card, it may be too much pressure or clipping force from the pinky and base of pinky/palm. By “clipping” less and using only the friction of the pinky pad, it may help keep that top card flush.
      If it’s moving during the unload, again less downward force will help the card glide on top of the card without moving it. You can also over shoot it and square up afterwards. Rocking or beveling the top of the deck forwards, while Maintaining soft pressure with the middle and thumb near the top of the deck should also help keep it aligned more. Hope this helps my friend. Thank you for sharing!!

    • @davidbl19788
      @davidbl19788 Рік тому

      @@magicianjavier Thank you! Yes its when I'm unloading the card. Only been practicing this move for. couple of weeks, so know I have a long way to go. I don't do exactly the same as Chad Nelson as I find that way too knacky. The end result is the same tho. One thing I can't do yet is overshoot the card.
      If the card underneath doesn't move then 50% of the time I'm perfect and the other 50% I'm short by a bit.

      Another tip is to tuck in your index more, sound weird, but it helps.
      I also will just extend my index out and square or bevel the deck towards my hand in the motion of shaking if I can tell the cards are going to end up square enough.
      Other than that, best solution is practice, practice, and them some more practice.
      Really tough move, but very, very rewarding.

I actually discovered it is great for copper silver coins as well. Also a color change box I made. Great video!😊
    I struggle with taking a break. Sometimes I know it’s best to back away from magic for a day. All the best ideas coming flooding in after a break but I find it hard to take that break.
    Also I have a coin utility wallet being pitched to Murphy’s this or next week. I think you will LOVE this thing. I’ve been excited to show you for two years. I just think your mind will go crazy for ideas. We call it the Sparrow. Small but does so much.

      Hell yeah dude!! Great minds think alike! And you DO have a GREAT MIND!! That’s a super cool idea with the DLight. I’m gonna go try that out right now!
      If you feel like you need a break, you can try taking little breaks, it doesn’t have to be a FULL day. Maybe just half or quarter day and work your way up IF it’s something you think you need. If you feel you do it to cover something up, you can try exploring what you’re trying not let come to the surface, and that should make taking breaks easier. When we take those breaks the mind can go on hyperdrive, it’s as if we were on for days when we get back. Hope this helps dude. You can check out Atomic Habits by James Clear and/or Rick Eubin’s the creative act. Highly recommend.

When you get in, make sure you tell the people you performed for if they’d liked it, to mention it to the wait staff, managers, and/or hostess. You can also include tricks that encourage them to be loud, laugh, surprise, etc. this way people will be interested in what’s going on and request you to go to their table. Hopefully these little tips help you out

    Great trick! I especially like the "fan" you used to cover the card change! As for my problem: well, it's me. I'm my own worst enemy. I practice my tricks until I can do them well. At the time of continued practice, I always do it right. But when I perform for someone, everything sucks hard. I screw up the trick, my patter loses tempo and I just look like a moron. Then I go to practice what went wrong until I "fix" the problem(s). When I perform the trick again, same problems and I look like a schmuck! So, for the past few years I gave up performing for anybody except the idiot in the mirror. lol

      @magicianjavier  Рік тому +3

      Ah man! My first advice is to see yourself as your bestest friend and talk to yourself in that way rather your worst enemy. I totally get you tho, because it can feel that way. There’s a difference in our practice than when we perform..SO.. we have to practice performing just as much, only then will it be right in performance. Also, remember just like in practice alone, there’s always another time. Since we feel the pressure of having someone in front and maintaining the rhythm or trick, you can try practicing with plushies, it’s my favorite way to test out material, before I bring to spectators. Give them a personality and they they start interacting with you as you practice. If you get nervous or stressed during your performance, this state of mind is different from the one you practiced on. You try watching a thriller or a scary movie as you practice to simulate the feeling of performance. You’ll notice your hands, breathing, everything will feel slightly different but it should help in performance. The best advice is to go out and do it as practice, knowing you’ll learn something for next time. I believe in you John, that dedication of practice is exactly what you need. You’re already doing it, use that same motivation to practice with people. After a day of two, you’ll be asking yourself why you didn’t do it before. This May getting a little too long but you can also have self working tricks and start with those, then say you’re working on something that may not workout and move on to your trick you’re trying to practice. If it works good! If it doesn’t, Good! Because now you’re closer to getting it like you want. The more repeat, the sooner you’ll achieve your goal. Hope this helps. I’m also going to be doing some videos in this topic, stay tuned if you’re interested. Thank you so much for your response and opening up. Remember you got this John! I believe in you! 🤜🤛

    • @magicianjavier
      @magicianjavier  Рік тому +1

      I see, for burn outs the best things is to take a breather and a break to come back fresh. If you can’t take a break, you can consider scheduling time blocks where you do individual aspects of your magic. This way so won’t be so overwhelmed with all the different types of things you have to do. The more you create, the better at creating you’ll get. Imo everything worthy from the right perspective, we just have to find it. Maybe it taught us a lesson we want to avoid in our next creation

      @magicianjavier  Рік тому +1

      Hey IGP, let me see if I can help… I know it may sound counter intuitive, but you could try applying less pressure when stealing a card from the middle, this should make it so only one comes out. Also, making sure you’re contacting all cards in the deck, but not too tightly will prevent the stragglers from poking out. What I like to do is hide it during a gesture. So I practice gesturing while doing the steal and even if the cards come out, you’re still good.
      When it comes to the cull, you could try braking the move up in two, first cover it up, then steal it underneath. You can break it up as you talk, to gesture, to ask a question, to point, to move something, etc. you can tackle it with practice, you can check out my practice video to speed up the results.

      Hey Kelvin, great question! I’m the same as you, right handed in life but left handed for card magic. I know some moves like peeks, spreads fans won’t work for us like usual. So my recommendation is to practice reverse, spreading the cards towards the audience, that way they see pips rather than blank corners. Same with reverse fans, practice those and make them a part of your natural flow of moves. Also when we do some counts and displays, say the four aces, when we display them to the audience we think they’re seeing them all but they’re really just seeing the first card and 3 blank corners. So I try to always remember those little discrepancies and choreograph the movements for a proper. Some peeks we also can’t do, because we just see a blank corner, BUT, there’s many more WE can do that right handed people (in magic) can’t. So play with the cards and see how your advantageousness left handed gift has to offer. I say the above because the way left handed people do card magic follows the natural way people read from left to right. This feels more natural to the viewer and it’s more relaxing. You do those little things and you’ll really enjoy your left handedness in magic. I know I do. Also, if you ever teach anyone, especially face to face, they’ll enjoy mirror-like view and way of learning. Hope this helps my friend!

      @@magicianjavier It was good to hear that you also work left handed. As you say fans and spreads have been a problem and sometimes I have to stop and reverse things. I find that if I practise in a mirror it helps. I did try doing magic right handed but gave up. It was good of you to take the time to reply to me and I am grateful. Keep doing good things and staywell,
      Kelvin (TOB)

      I’m gonna make a video on this, maybe even a series in it. One quick tip is practice WITH spectators. Just like we practice in our own and we get better. Performing for spectators is the same way. The more we do it the better we get. My favorite way to practice WITHOUT spectators is with plushies. They each have their own personalities and respond accordingly. The beauty of it is your presentation now has to be fluid if not the plushies will intervene and talk. Sounds a lil coocoo but it works!

    I struggle with approaching people to show a trick. Cards aren't very organic

      Thank you for sharing Erin. I’m going to make some videos about this topic, I’m sure you’ll find them useful. For now, you can consider your cards like a fidget toy, a stress reliever, a way to have fun in the go, a way to connect with others, or anything else you can think of. In this way you’re reframing their “organicness” to fit you, then, they will be organic in your hands. This is easier said than done but just like at first we struggled to learn how to walk, but we kept at it. The more with struggle with approaching people, paradoxically the less we will the next time. I hope this helps. I’ll be making some videos to help you out with this, stay tuned. Thank you so much for your support

    Pinky count is very Hard for me ....

      @magicianjavier  Рік тому

      That’s a tough one. With enough practice anything is easy peasy tho. It helps to bow the deck slightly like ‘n’ and bevel the top of the deck towards your thumb. This will make it so the pinky can flick easier and more accurately. I like to relax the hand as much as possible and gesture or have the hand in motion as I do to hide it even more.
      One tip would be to treat it as working out. Set pinky count sessions to point your pinky starts to struggle and feel tired. This will strengthen it and make it’ll be easier to do the pinky count.
      Hope this helps Alexander! Thank you!
