I read shepherds would guide Syrian people over a divide to help them from being killed. They would yodel to one another to communicate. I think this is a wonderful song, so beautifully played and sung.. BRAVO BRAVO BRAVO for all yodeling shepherds saving people.

They guided Jewish people to safety over mountains, yodeling to the next shepherd. WW2 .....The shepherd Hans Bauer and his wife who inspired this song died at Auschwitz Bless them forever.
