- The Sims 4 has been around for a while now, some would say it has overstayed it’s welcome! I’ve been seeing a few posts lately form simmers who are missing some of the best bit we got in the sims 3 and I’ve heard that the word on the street is that the sims 3 is better than the sims 4. Well I’ve decided to take matters into my own hands and find out which game is better in a new comparison series where I’ll be looking at the top features of the sims 3 and sims 4 games and expansion packs to conclude which sims game is best.
This is the third video in this series and this time we are comparing the sims 3 island paradise with the sims 4 island living. This was a very difficult call because there were so many unique additions that came along with the sims 3 island paradise, like the ability to dive under water, however many players reported multiple lagging problems with the island paradise.
The sims 4 island living did not suffer from many technical glitches like island paradise did, however that’s mainly because of the lack of underwater action! In the end I gave this one to sims 4 island living. Let me know in the comments what you think!

Personally, the Sims 3 wins hands down. There is so much more to do and the gameplay is just far superior. The lagging can be fixed with one or two Nraas mods as well. Love your videos!

@@hilary3219 The entire pack isn't unplayable- just the world, for some people. I'm not saying it's not a detractor, but with the level of world customization in the Sims 3, you could turn Sunset Valley into your new island paradise if you really wanted to. The gameplay all works fine in any world.

I can't believe you chose sims 4 Island living over sims 3 Island paradise 😲 I mean, the sims 3 has SO MUCH content: house boats, the whole hotel system (!!), immersive diving, new hobbies (windsurfing and water skiing), 3 new active careers, a lot of boats which can be used by many sims at once (and they can fish from there), Kraken, and so much more... I get that the world is laggy, but there is fix for it, and you could use the features of the expansion in every other world, you could even create your own diving spots from scratch (hear that, sims 4?)! For me, sims 3 wins this one without any second thought. Love your videos though! This series is just what I was looking for and you have such a nice voice 😊
All of those are fun but there are pointless cause you can’t enjoy them due to the lag
@@PlatoneMusic but as I said, it is world that is laggy, not the features of the expansion. You can either:
1. Download fixed Isla Paradiso
2. Play in different world, even created by yourself, whereas in sims 4 you're stuck in Sulani, so...

i wanted to play island living so badly but it was completely unplayable for me 😭😭
@@andreax9532 There's fixes for it, download the fixed isla paradiso asthe comment said. Or make your sunset valley into the island paradise world.
Odd, I don't get lag in ISLA, I did get some sims getting stuck so I blocked a couple of the ports with houseboats that can't be occupied.
The Sims 3 world for this expansion pack is actually fixable. You can either download the already fixed world or fix it yourself. So in the end, The Sims 3 version is far superior to The Sims 4.
I don't understand at all how you chose The Sims 4 as being "better" when it offers so little compared to all the things you get with The Sims 3 version: 2 active careers, hotel/resort system that you barely mentioned (which The Sims 4 doesn't even have), scuba diving and the ability to create diving lots, ability to buy more homes (so you can own both a house on land and a houseboat at the same time), lots of water activities (far more than The Sims 4), and plus you can incorporate all the features from this expansion into other worlds (whereas, you can't with The Sims 4).
I ended up fixing the world, Isla Paradiso, myself which to me was pretty fun. I wanted to arrange things around anyway to make the world my own to how I wanted it. It runs SMOOTH as butter and I love this world so much and the expansion pack, Island Paradise, itself. I also love being able to add diving lots and hotels to the other worlds I play and truly love the tropical worlds other fans have made because of the assets they can use from this EP. The diving lots they've created are so imaginative and just so much fun to explore!
The Sims 4 has only those 3 islands and you can't really edit them much or create new islands/worlds. There's NO diving lots, NO hotel system. You can only do so much with the conservation career. That gets boring very quickly. So how is that better than The Sims 3's version???
I just bought island paradise and I’m loving it!! House boats are my life life now sorry😬Ea finally put sims 3 on sale after a full year not doing it (expansion packs only)
Edit:oh yeah I have the 64bit Mac update for sims 3 so I don’t experience lagging or freezing of course the infinite sims 3 glitches are still here but I can play all day without crashes happening. Especially with island paradise I just bought yesterday I’m loving it and I wish more people could Experience it😓

You know, I just got a mac, so I might give it a shot again. Though that fact it never played on most computers when it came out makes it still objectively bad (see the steam reviews).
im experiencing freezing but oh well, there are quite a few fixes online to help with that.
Performance aside, The Sims 3 IP wins EASILY. It's full of content and gameplay. From resort management, to exploring underwater lots and houseboats to even a new active career. There's just so much to do! And when it comes to lag, you can simply use the features from the pack in a different world if Isla Paradiso doesn't run well on your system. There's nothing stopping you from opening a resort in Sunset Valley or using houseboats in Bridgeport. The features were made so they could be used in ANY world. The Sims 4 Island Living's Sulani is a beautiful world, but there's nothing to do. On top of that, most of the features of the pack are restricted to Sulani only. I think it's the worst Expansion Pack ever made for TS4.
I've opened plenty of resorts in other worlds besides Isla Paradiso. My personal fave is building in Roaring Heights. The 64x64 lot that is planned for the boardwalk is the best place for a resort.
Performance aside ?????? If it wasn't for mods, IP would literally be unplayable
@@aeroga2383 No?? That's the point, near ALL of it's content can be used outside of Isla Paradiso, so if Isla Paradiso doesn't work on your system,, just use another map?

I have the game, where can you make new maps? I have sims uni and generations and I still don't see an option in any world?
I also heard others say they downloaded other people's islands to fix the broken world but I've no idea how?
Im just gonna buy the sims 3 now, the sims 4 really missed an opportunity! I think Sulani is wonderful, but damn! Sims 3 really did that!
Personally, I disagree, Sims 3 wins hands down, and while I do agree that the lag most often renders the game unplayable, without downloading clean templates from the exchange, along with a few must have mods (just for overall bug fixes), the gameplay alone offers so much more than the Sims 4. Repetitive game mechanics from one pack to the next (in Sims 4), truly does break the full immersion that only an open world can give, especially when considering the ability to create an entire new world.
I understand that you are comparing without mods, in mind, but when playing Sims 3 vs. Sims 4, Sims 3 needs mods for bug fixes, and Sims 4 needs mods for bug fixes (although less), as well as for gameplay.
As for some of the aspects mentioned in the Sims 4, sunburns, sandcastles, fishing, etc., all those aspects had already been implemented prior in the Sims 3, albeit in different ways. Although the inability to create a mermaid has it's down size, there is always cheats for those who do not have the patience (becoming one in game is definitely easy though).
My favorite aspect is the diving, and being able to explore underwater. The aspect of being able to manage and operate a resort was also a great aspect in Sims 3.
With all that said, even without mermaids, scuba diving, etc. Sims 2 does a far better job than Sims 4 in Bon Voyage.
I LOVE Island Paradise. I was hesitant about it at first because I've never had a super expensive computer, but even before I knew about the fixes Isla Paradiso never made my game crash (just lag a little bit) and it's so beautiful that I genuinely didn't care, and I still don't. The only thing I would change about it is that I wish you could make mermaids in CAS.
I bought Island Living with really high hopes because everyone was giving it such great reviews and then played it like... twice. I can't even really articulate what my issue with it was; I just got bored.
I've been watching this series for about a week now and I never realized how little views it has. I love the comparisons, they are very interesting and entertaining to watch, it definitely deserves more exposure! (Also Sims 3 Island Paradise was a great pack, but the lag was unbearable 😭)
I was so obsessed with this pack when it came out! (Sims 3). It’s a ton of fun. Luckily, it’s possible to fix sims 3’s issues regarding the lag (usually caused by routing issues because EA). Watched a review on sims 4’s pack and decided not to get it. Regardless of 3’s optimization issues it’s by far a better game (and pack!)
The lag in island paradise is from routing issues with the scott family that lives on one of the house boats. Once you delete that family the lag goes away completely. I’m kinda surprised you didn’t know that.

Delete Scott family and also delete every houseboat you're not using. You can save some or all of the houseboats if you want to the library and then just delete them. It worked wonders for me and I can't stop playing it. It's so good
For the Sims 3 Island Paradise Lagging.. Edit Town mode -> Move all the households in the houseboats into the houses in land -> set all the houseboats to community lot, no visitors allowed, then enjoy your island paradise. The lag will be almost gone. If it's annoying to do this, I can share my Edited Isla paradiso world save.

Island paradise no competition. The world is horribly optimized though so thats a big minus. However, all the features can be moved to a different world to create a similar experience (which can’t be said for island living where everything is locked to the world)
Personally I wish sims 4 added the ability to see your swim underwater and I like the idea of having to find the kelp underwater and the sharks just the whole water part but I prefer the sims 4 island/ land area
I really liked how island living had lots of Polynesian themed things…as I’m Polynesian I enjoyed seeing my culture & Polynesian traditions in the game. We don’t really get a lot of representation so that was great for me. Love the mermaids too!

Me too. I think Island Living and Island Paradise have their sets of pros and cons and I bet if the two merged with almost all the pros and almost none of the cons, then it will probably be the Sims pack ever! ❤️
The only 2 things about TS3, Island paradise is so laggy and so much from TS2 is missing. Regardless TS3 will always win over TS4.
Yeah and TS3 has stuff TS2 doesn't and TS4 has stuff TS3 doesn't. Just keep playing TS2 if you want the same game again

I know there was a lot of lag back when it first came out but I think nowadays if you have a good gaming PC it doesn't have as many struggles (except for the sims3 glitches we all *love*). I may be wrong however but on my PC I don't run into any lagging issues like I did on my old PC when I first got The Sims.
What kind of new pc did you buy? I have an Omen with intel Core i5 9th Gen and a NVIDA GeForce GTX 1650 and the the sims 3 works great.
I’m currently considering purchasing the sims 3 (being that the sims 4 was a really disappointing game...) and your vs videos really tipped the scale on my decision! I love these vids and I hope you do one on the sims cats and dogs packs.
If you get sims 3 and island paradise just delete the scott family on the house boat and it runs perfectly

This is a tough one as Sims 3 definitely beats the Sims 4 content wise, but loses a lot of points because the Sims 4 actually works out of the box when the Sims 3 just doesn’t… for a lot of people it completely breaks their game and even though the majority of people only have issues in Isle Paradiso, those issues were never officially solved. To this day, it’s still glitched out despite many of the issues being solvable with some faff and yet it’s sold for $20 to this day despite mostly negative reviews. It really reeks of laziness if you ask me, the majority of the issues with S3IP are due to shoddy design, all the houseboats have weird design that gets Sims stuck, and they constantly get lost between docks leading to massive lag, one of the families isn’t even properly docked when you start the game. Nearly every spiral staircase in the world is placed backwards and Sims can’t use it, although they will still try and get stuck, creating massive lag. Some of the families are bugged out too, and a couple of houses should theoretically work but the lack of a front door, and/or on ladders, completely breaks any Sims that live there. Several of the resorts are busted too, important items are placed underground or out of bounds, trapping Sims and making them get stuck trying to find items, and they’re usually debug items so you can’t modify them without cheats. All of these issues can be solved by faffing around with the world before you start, but the issue is that not only did EA refuse to fix any of the code bugs and issues, they also failed to correct ANY of these issues that can be fixed manually despite the fact that if they did it by themselves you wouldn’t need to do it yourself each time you start a new save.
The bit that really nails it for me and makes the Sims 3 the better option is the underwater world, it looks amazing in the Sims 3 and you can really explore, whereas in the Sims 4 it’s just her another rabbit hole. Losing house boats didn’t bother me as they were so broken originally, the only way to make the game run right is either to delete every house boat or load each house, dock it, remove the wheel, and make it a normal house, then move onto the next one, and using your own boat lead to lag and your Sims glitching out. But the regression for the water was way too disappointing to me, same with the loss of the resorts system despite how busted up it was too.
Out of the box, I think Sims 4 wins too as it works perfectly at launch and has some nice cultural and diversity details, while looking lovely and giving you most of what you’d want from an island environment, but if you’re willing to install 6 mods and modify your game files and faff for 2 hours (or download a fan made modified version of Isle Paradiso that fixes *most* of the routing issues.) then you can get a much deeper and more impressive experience, or you can just buy Sunlit Shores on the store (or pirate it, as the £20 price tag to this day is ridiculous) and get the main feature from Sims 4 Island Living and Sims 3 Island Paradise; the island setting.

Right! Like it has hundreds of amazing things about it and just the one really bad thing. As someone who didn't really experience the one bad thing (Isla Paradiso was just a liiiiittle laggier than the average world, actually Bridgeport ran way slower for me, and that was BEFORE I found out about the Scott family/extra houseboat fix) I absolutely adore Island Paradise.
They could actually copy the whole expansions from sims 3 and did it in sims 4, Maybe add the delfins because they are really cool thing and make it less laggy, but they were too lazy, and delte so many things.... How sims 3 which was made so long time ago its better than the latest game, shouldnt they make the New game better than the old one?

oh hell NAH i was even shocked the title was a thing sims 3 is WAYY better than sims 4 by far 😭 i remember my mum brought me the sims 3 island living pack as soon as it came out and i wud stay at the resorts with my little families all day haha it was so fun

I always learn about new features in packs thanks to your comparison videos. I never knew you could actually watch them scuba dive underwater, too bad water options don't work with the Sims 64-bit for Mac

For everyone saying why she picked sims 4 over the sims 3 island paradise, Its just *personal preference* ??? Besides, she literally made the video about why SHE thinks which one is better for HER. Like its her personal opinion. I like spicy food, one may like sweet or sour, so does that mean he or should give me a 400 page essay on why i cant like spicy food !?! Thats just mental.
Id personally pick island paradise over island living anyday but i wouldnt go around writing about why they cannot like sims 3 over sims 4 and vice versa !!

Really hoping TS3 won't be as laggy this time around as it has very impressive gameplay, I couldn't appreciate it as much because the lagging/crashing made it almost unplayable.
Island Paradise struggled mightily to even install on my old PC. The sound that came from my PC during install was so loud it could be heard from 2 or 3 rooms away.
I know this is an old video but I cleaned up the island in Sims 4 in like a day by creating a group and having like 10 sims clean the island and it was done in I want to say two sessions like that.
I first played (the very first version of) The Sims back in 2000, back in the heady days when I was 21 years old!
And I played both the PC and the PlayStation 2 editions/versions/formats...
I always liked the idea of the game, especially after following the various SimCity games and spin-offs throughout my teens during the 1990's...
Ah yes, projecting misery (my own misery? Nah, probably not, I was a confident and outgoing teen at that stage of my life! Perhaps I was just an arsehole?! 🤔😄🤷🏻♂️) and dumping awful situations upon my Sims sounded like fun to me...
So I played the game and... Was profoundly disappointed with it. Pretty much because it felt so slow to me, and not only that, the Sims seemed to respond to direct instructions REALLY slowly or just... not at all!
I understand the game and it's mechanics a bit better these days but even when I revisited the game years later, I still felt it was a bit slow for me.
So, yeah... Just like eating mega-expensive-daily-caught-fresh-Lobster (for the price - blander than I expected! I prefer crab!🤦🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️) or Sushi (fresh fish from the sea? Mmm, loved the idea but did not like the actual experience of eating it! Oh well!🤦🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️), I thought that I'd love The Sims!
Alas, no. It was not to be.
However, the later Sims 3 and 4 are igniting my curiosity again (mainly thanks to your videos here!). I've not bought The Sims 3 for my PS3 yet, but now that The Sims 4 is apparently free to download and play, I may have a go on that on my tablet.
it didn't get laggy to me! it exploded my computer haha but it's still better. if the followed the same formul for the island living it'd be treasure. but yet they decided to keep stuff out of an expansion.

Actually I can follow your mermaid sim underwater by clicking shift+tab it allows u 5o see under water only thing is that the water is clear like Ur just flying and u can't see the water but it's neat!!
I agree with you on the Sims 4 Island Living being the best, well in terms of CAS at least. But in everything else, I do think the Sims 3 Island Paradise is the best, despite me not playing it.........yet. I know it's an unpopular opinion, but please hear me out. I only got to play The Sims 3 on the Xbox console when I was little and The Sims 3 Pets came to console in a separate game. And I never did get to experience Expansion packs proper in the Sims Franchise until I got the Sims 4 on console. And ever since I was hooked on them along with Game Packs and even Stuff Packs. So while I certainly agree with the popular opinion that The Sims 3 Island Paradise is the best overall, I do think that The Sims 4 Island Living is also the best, at least when it comes to CAS. My opinion may change once I get The Sims 3 on PC.

Yep. This. If you used combo Twallan's SP, optimized player made versions of vanilla worlds (like the Isla Paradiso makeover) and/or had a med to high end PC, you would have ZERO problems playing and enjoying TS3 base game plus all it's EPs & SPs. Problem was a lot of simmers PCs were more on the potato end. So TS3 has always unfairly received the short end of the stick as a result. And a LOT of TS3 simmers don't bother pointing this out to those TS2/TS4 simmers who aren't aware of the ability to fix TS3 performance. So I'm really grateful for Simmer YTers like Whitney pointing out the pros & cons of both games. THAT BEING SAID.......
The amount of content they left on the cutting room floor in TS4 Island Living should've made it a GAME PACK. It's really insulting to call it an EP IMO.
That being said, I wish I'd seen her comparison videos before taking advantage of Steam's recent sale. I've collected & played every Sim gen game but had my reservations with TS4. Took me nearly a decade aka about 2 weeks ago to take the plunge. Bought 99% of TS4 ie. all EPs, GPs (except 3 GPs), some 90% of the SPs and 2-3 Kits I'd always wanted. After playing through several of the EPs with this one included, starting to have BUYER'S REMORSE. Lol.
While it's true the vanilla TS4 is clearly the better optimized game for performance, TS3 >>> TS4. Not because of the open world, but because of amazing mods like Twallans SP which let you customize 100% of your game. The ability to download AND play ANY player made game world. And take your Sims on vacation/live there/do biz trips etc. or all of these with or without family. NVM all the FREE, unlimited CC from MTS, TSR & ATS3 Sandy that you could download to your Mods folder...before your game exploded. LOL.
even when I only played TS4 I thought Island living was crap. There's literally nothing to do except for killing the ugly townies.
Sims 3 Island Paradise would win and be my favourite expansion if it was playable, but in my experience it's not 90% of the time. Island Living might be washed down like every other Sims 4 expansion pack but it's better to have a small playable island pack than a glitchy one you can barely enjoy.
You can just download the fixed world for Sims 3 Island Paradise. Pretty silly to avoid playing Sims 3's better version and just settle for the little that Sims 4 offers.
@@melodyseverything6999 I would absolutely LOVE to play a working version of the world, but I tried literally everything to no avail. Downloading fixed templates, using nrass, deleting problematic households, deleting all houseboats - I've done it all. The game still froze every few seconds and it was impossible to enjoy. If you found a working one then I don't know what kind of magical website you found but I'm very happy for you.
@@wikicatyt That's just strange. Everybody who had it fixed had no problems after that. You can even watch videos of Island Paradise gameplay after it is fixed if you want proof, or read about how them enjoying the EP in comments and forums. Also, you can still play other worlds that have Island Paradise features and see if you have any problems with them. If you're really having a problem with the EP itself where you can't even play other worlds with those features, then there might be something wrong with your set up - quite possibly a mod that conflicts with it somehow? In which case, you can just remove the mod. This doesn't occur very often as most people are able to play after the fix.
@@melodyseverything6999 I'm not sure what platform you play on. It's not a mods fault, it's only the world which doesn't work - like I said - I tried everything, I know it works for some people after they download a fixed world template, but in my game it just doesn't work.
@@wikicatyt - Maybe your computer is very old then? I had a 2014 computer and the Island Paradise EP still worked fine on that.
