Yeah, I agree. "Pets" is better than "Cats and dogs." I love all the small pets, the wild animals, and the ice cream truck. While you may think it's not realistic to be able to control our pets, well, we can't exactly control EACH OTHER either.🙂
I don't spend a lot a time controlling my pets in Sims3, I just occasionally check them to make sure they are doing okay or when I want them to have babies.

Sims 3 all the way, I'm making my money doing competitions and doing what I love too! How awesome is that! Also in the sims 4 the stray pets are always sick, which bothers me! Sims 3 folks! I'm not gonna lie, I have enjoyed the vet proffession a lot! But once I started playing the sims 3 again on a beast pc, I realised what I'd been missing! I just forgot after 5/6 years not playing.
The Sims 3 Pets was priced at $39.99 on release date. Now, it is $19.99. EA once put The Sims 3 and the major expansion packs on a big 50% off sale, so it was $9.99 apiece. The Sims 4 Cats and Dogs is now priced at $39.99, because it is brand-new. However, if you compare Sims 4 Cats and Dogs with Sims 3 Pets at release date, you will find that the Sims 3 is still the better deal because of all the stuff you get from it and in-depth gameplay. I think the Sims 3 overall was designed to be an RPG/simulation game, while the Sims 4 was designed to be an online social game. Hence why the Sims 3 has more in-depth features, while the Sims 4 lacks a ton of features because the main features were/are supposed to be socializing with other players.
Fun fact I was surprised to know you can have ghost pet babies 😅 I actually like the option to control pets so I can choose whether not to control them if I feel like it ( I have Autonomy cranked all the way up lol I prefer watching my sims make their own decisions in life base on their personality 🤗)
Being able to control the pets is my #1 reason TS3 destroys TS4 in this category, in my opinion. Sure, it's more "realistic" to not be able to, but if they're going to take up a full slot in my household, I should be able to click on them. They don't even take up a full slot in TS3! You can have up to 10 total "beings," whatever mix of 8 Sims and 6 Pets you want. It genuinely infuriates me that we don't get the option- in TS3, if you don't want to control the pet, you don't have to. In TS4, if you want to control the pet, you have to download a mod based on abandoned gameplay they were ALREADY GOING TO INCLUDE AND DECIDED TO CHEAT US OUT OF. Yikes. Sorry for the rant (it's not directed at you, I've enjoyed this video just as much as all the others). It just drives me craaaaaaaaaaazy. Then of course there's the huge number of small pets + horses and all their awesome gameplay. The only points I could give to TS4 would be the vet career (which is surprisingly really fun), and the ability to make kittens & puppies in CAS. That's it.
Also, fun story about TS3 Pets: One time I was playing a Legacy Challenge, and one of the spouses, named Dylan, had already lost his respective heir and was getting super old, so I knew he was going to die any day. I was sad, as I'd been playing with him since he was a teenager and AS him since he was a YA. He had a cat named Tony, who he'd gotten as a kitten (actually for his wife, a Cat Person, but Tony bonded with him way more against my planning, because in TS3 sometimes the AI doesn't do what you explicitly want it to, what a world). Their relationship was MAXED OUT and had been for ages. So one evening, Dylan starts to die. He stops working on his last novel, stands up from his desk, and the music starts. His family and his wife's cat run in, upset, and Grim starts his spiel. Then I think "Oh no! What about Tony?" I click on him. He has one action in his queue. "Harass Death." Tony starts YOWLING at the Grim Reaper, louder than I have EVER heard him, and suddenly Grimmy is waving his hands and DYLAN IS SAVED. IT WAS THE GREATEST THING I HAVE EVER WITNESSED. IT WAS AMAZING. IT WAS BEAUTIFUL. IT WAS POETIC. THE SIMS 4 COULD *NEVER.*
As much as I love Sims 4 Cats & Dogs, seeing the amount of content in Sims 3 Pets makes me really sad on what I’m missing out on! 😭 I don’t mind not getting horses but a wild unicorn would’ve been amazing, and just more wild animals in general! Also I REALLY want the smaller pets but there is no way I’m buying My First Pet Stuff, that was just really low of EA to do.
Sims 3 Pets is automatically better due to the fact that it offers a wide range of pets. Cats and dogs are the most popular pets yeah, but they aren't the only ones. I like that in TS3 I can have birds, turtles, and other reptiles. In TS4 if you aren't a cat or dog person (and you don't want to spend $10 on rodents), you've got nothing. Also, being able to control the pets is SOOOOOO nice for players like me that like to control everything in my game.
FOR REAL! Dont get me wrong, cats and dogs are amazing. Put there are people who have different preferences for their pets! Besides, "controlling " pets would be better in the sims.

As a horseback rider myself who is also an avid sims lover all the way from the starting game, when this trailer came out it was phenomenal. Not to mention all of the custom content that has been created from the sims 3 pets. It is just an amazing game and I love it.
The fact that you need to pay an additional 10 bucks for terrible small pets that are objects connected to huge cages in ts4 when you get a bunch of them in the pets pack in ts3 is what gets me going about ts4 pets. The my first pets pack was just extra stuff they didn’t want to push out with the actual cats and dogs even though the furniture was the exact same theme. They just wanted to nickel and dime their customer base again. The sickness in the animals is also such a nuisance

I think the part that irks me the most about My First Pet Stuff, y’know apart from its existence separate from Cats & Dogs, is the fact that they copied and pasted the exact same item 4 times for each small pet you can keep in them, as if it was impossible for the team to create just one enclosure that could be “stocked” with any one of the 4 animals (and I haven’t bought and played Pet Stuff but I will take a wild guess that all 4 of these different animals more or less act in exactly the same way). Feels even more like they’re trying to stretch out what the pack supposedly gives you to justify the price. It’s the same exact item, advertised as 4 items. Absolutely insane. That’s something I loved about the Sims 3 cages, perches, and terrariums, that the same item could house multiple different animals.
Sims 3 has more pets and Sims 4 only has cats and dogs but I guess in equal terms it just depends on what you want like if you want pets to have more customization then Sims 4: Cats and Dogs or if you want your sim to have a pet hamster then Sims 3: pets

The Sims 3 Pets also added so many cool wild life like deer, racoons, chipmunk/squirrels, also the iconic Sixam owl (i had one appear in Midnight Hollow! never saw them before that) and depending on the climate of the world, certain types of wild birds/reptiles will appear in the world. Overall I think TS3 Pets is forever one of the best expansions in the Sims franchise.

Ooh I never realized but same some of my favorite cas items in the sims 3 were from this pack. There's one shirt in particular. The one that kind of flares out in like an upside down v shape at the bottom that I would almost always use.
Being able to have pet rats, chinchillas, catch squirrels and chipmunks make the sims 3 take the cake. The sims 4 cats and dogs doesn't even come close
I was trying to have a realistic generations play through but at some point my dog kept saving the elder and the dog was already 25 days beyond his dying day
I'm slightly biased because Sims 3 was the only pets expansion that had my dog's breed (Cavalier King Charles Spaniel). Sims 4 has a King Charles Spaniel, which is actually a related but different breed, but it's decent enough to customize and make a Cavalier out of it. Even so, my girl lived from Sims 2 era to Sims 4 era and was created in all of them.
They could sell a pack that just adds the color wheel for sims for 20 dollars and literally everyone would buy it while down voting it for being something that we should already have
i like that Pets in 3 has more actual pets, but the pet controlling feature seems useless and unrealistic. So it's pretty much a draw for me in these 2 packs
In comparison to TS3, TS4 pets are less interactive with the world and with other animals. In TS3, it was really cute to have multiple cats and/or dogs living in the same house together, because they would actually play and romp around with each other A LOT just like pets tend to do in real life. I love the customization of pets in TS4, but in terms of interaction and overall gameplay they’re incredibly static. Also, I hate not being able to at least click on them and view their information. We have Cowplants and cloning machines in the Sims, so the “realism” is just a lazy cop out.

When I found out that "cats & dogs was coming out for Sims 4 I was incredibly disappointed because they didn't give us horses like they did in Sims 3. I love Sims 3 Pets and they really disappointed me with just cats and dogs. Yes, I do still love cats and dogs but it just doesn't feel the same like it did in Sims 3, not to mention you can't even control the animals which was another big disappointment.
If anyone reads this, can someone tell me what pack is worth getting? Sims 3 Pets or Sims 4 Cats And Dogs? I don't want to waste my money but I really am mixed between both. HELP.
i think the pets in the sims 4 are much superior, their ai is much superior, in the sims 3 the fact that they let the player control the pets it made the devs be lazy and did not code a proper ai for then, i played the sims 3 since release date and i got all expansionpacks, once pets released i always had a dog (sometimes cats but im mostly a dog person) and NEVER during my playtime NEVER my dog did run away from home, in the sims 2 this happens in the sims 4 this happens, besides to proper hunt in sims 3 u need to manually control it cause it don't work properly its terrible their AI in the sims 3 is horrible, now that sims 4 don't let you con trol then it forces the dev to create a better AI for then, and they are much superior specially the cats they can jump from table to table and walk freely in then (in the sims 2 and 3 they can only climb but not walk freely) there can be many pets at once on the same bed, its just much more interactions poop, the feelings and the fact that they can run away now is much better. the pets in the sims 3 basically only cared for their needs it did not had a proper ai because the game expected you to control then =) in real life my pets vist my neighrbor, in the sims 3 it never happened to me never my pet never left my lot autonomously, in the sims 4 this can happen so for the PETS ALONE ignoring the rest of the content, the pets itself are much superior in the sims 4, and this is a trend with the sims 4, the sims 4 usually offers LESS CONTENT but with a bit more quality polish than the sims 3, it was the case with vampires werewolfes, and even mermaids if you ignore the underwater part cause the underwater part was not exactly a mermaid thing it was just part of the world in other worlds you can't go underwater etc but the mermaid powers etc are better in sims 4, but thats the problem, the sims 3 for a smaller price gave you more CONTENT much more, it gave you horses small pets sure they have a bit less quality but it gave you more stuff. the sims 4 for rent is a apartment system superior to the sims 3, but its inferior to the sims 2 apartment because at the moment is a little bit broken when they fix witha patch it will be better, but again they offer you LESS CONTENT the sims 2 apartment came with the supernatural witches for example. and this is the the sims 4 problem, alot of the times the content they deliver have more quality and is good babys/infants, but its way too much spread out. so in short >> the sims 3 = more content with a little bit less quality (not saying its bad quality but just less polished, for example sims 4 allow for having over 6 cats on the same bed they can walk frelly jump on the stuff on kitchend and walk frelly they can even walk on smal tables on the sims 3 they can't walk, they can just jump and stand still and go down no free walking, and theres alot of interactoins missing not only the poop but alot less interactions with objects and the pets itself, ) but you have unicorns horses etc. the sims 4 = less content ( a lot less) but the content is overall polished better)
Sims 4 is so buggy that the pets I had in game did nothing but stood there staring at a wall. Meanwhile sims 3 pets actually did things around the house which made playing the game with pets that much more fun. Plus there's horses and smaller pets included that isn't just a hamster.
I still can't understand the removal of pet control from Sims 4. The "realism" excuse doesn't make sense, because, well. You don't control just one human sim, do you? You can talk to Death themself. I don't think realism is a valid concern in this game. The "let your pets do their own thing" also makes next to no sense: The human sims can already make their own choices. You _can_ control them, but don't _have to_ do so. You can just watch them do their own thing. It would have probably been easier to just carry the same over to the pets as well. It was one of the biggest downsides for me, but I can't imagine how upset were the many horse and smaller pet lovers, who needed to get a separate stuff pack to have fun. The new stuff is delightful, but the lack of the old stuff is sad. which is why we have cheats mods and of course piracy
when I bought cats ans dogs, I was so exited to play as a vet who will help all the stays for free....the game said NO! I find the world so sad with all the sick animals that I don't play in it now ☹

Ooh I never realized but same some of my favorite cas items in the sims 3 were from this pack. There's one shirt in particular. The one that kind of flares out in like an upside down v shape at the bottom that I would almost always use.
The good thing with sims 3 pets we can play as cat/dog for challenge. We can do rags to riches with cat/dog
Being able to have pet rats, chinchillas, catch squirrels and chipmunks make the sims 3 take the cake. The sims 4 cats and dogs doesn't even come close
I was trying to have a realistic generations play through but at some point my dog kept saving the elder and the dog was already 25 days beyond his dying day

I'm slightly biased because Sims 3 was the only pets expansion that had my dog's breed (Cavalier King Charles Spaniel). Sims 4 has a King Charles Spaniel, which is actually a related but different breed, but it's decent enough to customize and make a Cavalier out of it. Even so, my girl lived from Sims 2 era to Sims 4 era and was created in all of them.
They could sell a pack that just adds the color wheel for sims for 20 dollars and literally everyone would buy it while down voting it for being something that we should already have
i like that Pets in 3 has more actual pets, but the pet controlling feature seems useless and unrealistic. So it's pretty much a draw for me in these 2 packs
i mean, it's not like controlling people is realistic either...
In comparison to TS3, TS4 pets are less interactive with the world and with other animals. In TS3, it was really cute to have multiple cats and/or dogs living in the same house together, because they would actually play and romp around with each other A LOT just like pets tend to do in real life. I love the customization of pets in TS4, but in terms of interaction and overall gameplay they’re incredibly static.
Also, I hate not being able to at least click on them and view their information. We have Cowplants and cloning machines in the Sims, so the “realism” is just a lazy cop out.

No but like i've literally been scammed half the pack i cant do the flower shop or the cake shop (BIG PARTS OF THE PACK BTW AND I CANT USE THE WORLD OVERALL LIKE IVE LITERALLY BEEN FUCKING SCAMMED)
When I found out that "cats & dogs was coming out for Sims 4 I was incredibly disappointed because they didn't give us horses like they did in Sims 3. I love Sims 3 Pets and they really disappointed me with just cats and dogs. Yes, I do still love cats and dogs but it just doesn't feel the same like it did in Sims 3, not to mention you can't even control the animals which was another big disappointment.
I made the mistake of adopting a shy cat in the sims 3 and it won't let me touch it or anything 😫😫 the wild horses won't let me get near them either.

If anyone reads this, can someone tell me what pack is worth getting? Sims 3 Pets or Sims 4 Cats And Dogs? I don't want to waste my money but I really am mixed between both. HELP.

yep. your biggest enemy tho may be the lagging, but there are tips you can search on the internet to help it run faster.
I think TS3 pet's is better because you can interact and be the pet and play and train them

i think the pets in the sims 4 are much superior, their ai is much superior, in the sims 3 the fact that they let the player control the pets it made the devs be lazy and did not code a proper ai for then,
i played the sims 3 since release date and i got all expansionpacks, once pets released i always had a dog (sometimes cats but im mostly a dog person)
and NEVER during my playtime NEVER my dog did run away from home, in the sims 2 this happens in the sims 4 this happens, besides to proper hunt in sims 3 u need to manually control it cause it don't work properly its terrible their AI in the sims 3 is horrible,
now that sims 4 don't let you con trol then it forces the dev to create a better AI for then, and they are much superior specially the cats they can jump from table to table and walk freely in then (in the sims 2 and 3 they can only climb but not walk freely) there can be many pets at once on the same bed, its just much more interactions poop, the feelings and the fact that they can run away now is much better.
the pets in the sims 3 basically only cared for their needs it did not had a proper ai because the game expected you to control then =) in real life my pets vist my neighrbor, in the sims 3 it never happened to me never my pet never left my lot autonomously, in the sims 4 this can happen so for the PETS ALONE ignoring the rest of the content,
the pets itself are much superior in the sims 4, and this is a trend with the sims 4, the sims 4 usually offers LESS CONTENT but with a bit more quality polish than the sims 3, it was the case with vampires werewolfes, and even mermaids if you ignore the underwater part cause the underwater part was not exactly a mermaid thing it was just part of the world in other worlds you can't go underwater etc but the mermaid powers etc are better in sims 4,
but thats the problem, the sims 3 for a smaller price gave you more CONTENT much more, it gave you horses small pets sure they have a bit less quality but it gave you more stuff.
the sims 4 for rent is a apartment system superior to the sims 3, but its inferior to the sims 2 apartment because at the moment is a little bit broken when they fix witha patch it will be better, but again they offer you LESS CONTENT the sims 2 apartment came with the supernatural witches for example.
and this is the the sims 4 problem, alot of the times the content they deliver have more quality and is good babys/infants, but its way too much spread out.
so in short >> the sims 3 = more content with a little bit less quality (not saying its bad quality but just less polished, for example sims 4 allow for having over 6 cats on the same bed they can walk frelly jump on the stuff on kitchend and walk frelly they can even walk on smal tables on the sims 3 they can't walk, they can just jump and stand still and go down no free walking, and theres alot of interactoins missing not only the poop but alot less interactions with objects and the pets itself, )
but you have unicorns horses etc.
the sims 4 = less content ( a lot less) but the content is overall polished better)
Sims 4 is so buggy that the pets I had in game did nothing but stood there staring at a wall.
Meanwhile sims 3 pets actually did things around the house which made playing the game with pets that much more fun. Plus there's horses and smaller pets included that isn't just a hamster.

I still can't understand the removal of pet control from Sims 4.
The "realism" excuse doesn't make sense, because, well. You don't control just one human sim, do you? You can talk to Death themself. I don't think realism is a valid concern in this game.
The "let your pets do their own thing" also makes next to no sense: The human sims can already make their own choices. You _can_ control them, but don't _have to_ do so. You can just watch them do their own thing. It would have probably been easier to just carry the same over to the pets as well.
It was one of the biggest downsides for me, but I can't imagine how upset were the many horse and smaller pet lovers, who needed to get a separate stuff pack to have fun. The new stuff is delightful, but the lack of the old stuff is sad.
which is why we have cheats mods and of course piracy

when I bought cats ans dogs, I was so exited to play as a vet who will help all the stays for free....the game said NO! I find the world so sad with all the sick animals that I don't play in it now ☹
