Is the radius built into the base plate with steps? Fixed radius?

Yes, we use a fixed R14 for the base plate so the vibration path is string > saddle > base plate > riser to guitar without the extra parts you find in OFR and Fender [nore parts = "acoustic sponge"] most can hear -- we use shims like the OFR between the saddle and the base plate to maintain the best of the Sophia's design advantage...
