Hello! Couple of things...
1. I’m sorry there are no pictures of the books. With Bookmas having so many videos I had to be editing multiple videos at a time so I completely forgot to add the photos 😓
2. I’m 24 not 33 😂 I was saying in 10 years I’ll be 33
Hope you enjoy the video! 🥰
I got soo confused I was thinking, whaaat?!! I thought she was younger than me! (Me being 27) glad that's cleared up whew 😂
thx, I got really confused by your IG...
i guess Im asking the wrong place but does someone know a tool to get back into an instagram account..?
I was stupid lost my password. I appreciate any tricks you can give me!
@Cain Thomas instablaster :)
@Niko Aldo i really appreciate your reply. I got to the site thru google and im trying it out atm.
Looks like it's gonna take quite some time so I will get back to you later with my results.
Omg you remembering the cursed child is gold 😂🤣😂
Struggles 😂
me: should i read books or watch hailey talk about them?
also me : both!
1. Thirteen Reasons Why
2. All The Bright Places
3. This Darkness Mine
4. Royally Lost
5. Matched
6. This is Where it Ends
7. I Was Born For This
8. The Bone Witch
9. The Cursed Child 😂
Summer Watermelon thank you!
I loved All the Bright Places. But “This is where it ends” was disappointing
As someone who is diagnosed with BPD, depression and generalized anxiety, I really loved All the Bright Places. I didn't find that it left a bad message, in fact, I thought it hit the mark. Theo had Bipolar disorder which was portrayed very well, and the reality of suicide was also shown rather accurately; if you die life goes on and it doesn't just affect your life ending, but it also affects the lives of those around you. I think the important bit was the acknowledgment that there are people who care for you, particularly violet and his other friends.
I completely agree with 13 reasons why, and for similar reasons.
And OMG I WAS WAITING for you to say the cursed child!!! 😹
Sara's Reading Nook Ikr, I am such a huge fan of Harry Potter but cursed child was a total disappointment
Samanja Subah exactly! Many people say it read like bad fan fiction and that’s basically my sentiments as well.
Definitely agree with you on 13 Reasons Why. I didn’t like how she was completely placing all the blame on others for her actions and tried to make them feel guilty for it.
Simran D'Souza yes I agree. It felt so vengeful, and it glorified that behaviour. Nope.
Am I the only one who liked The Cursed Child?? Like okay wasn’t the best but I mean it was interesting?
Allegiant. Most disappointing book of my life.
damn me too, it was soo bad that i forgot it existed until i saw your comment haha
@@kira854 I felt so betrayed by that trilogy.
@@TheWordN3rd me too they just took everything they build in the first (two) book(s) and just destroyed it until there was literally nothing left. Did you know Victoria Roth made an extra like epilogue and put it at the end of her new book carve the mark? it was bullshit and unnecessary
@@kira854 Lol. I haven't touched Veronica Roth since Allegiant. I don't fork with authors that kill off MCs.
@@TheWordN3rd i have the book, but i never read it because people were saying it was very racist so i was like nah not going to read it now, but on the cover it said extra divergent story in the back and so i was curious. it was basically Four banging Christina until they were old and crippled.
The one point I don't agree with you upon is "All the bright places". The book was not really supposed to have a hopeful message and I do believe that it was an outlet of the author as she went through a situation where she found (I think she was the one who found him, not 100% sure though) her best friend killed himself. However one of the more asked questions in regards to the book that I saw on goodreads is " Where were the adults in this book" - and I think it reflects a fairly important truth about mental health - just because parents and friends don't notice their child or friend is not well, won't make the issue non-existent. Just because somebody does not ask for help, won't make them okay, au contraire. So I do think the book makes a good point in regards to people - young and old - covering up how they really feel and ending up in an unfortunate situation because they are afraid they will be just stuck in a certain box and won't ever be able to leave that stigma.
Diana seconded.
I was going to post a comment similar to this but you said it in much better words. I completely agree with you said.
I can’t believe bookmas is almost over and the new year is almost here!🤩 thank you for these videos Hailey, they’ve been wonderful!
I'm so glad you've enjoyed them! 💕
Could you maybe have pictures of the books that you're talking about next time? Makes it easier to connect which book you're talking about :)
Sorry I had a lot of videos to edit and forgot this one needed photos, usually I always add them in
HAILEY: OMG. I'll be THIRTY THREE.
ME: *stares in 48*
I just found out my grandma passed away early this morning and I’ve just been watching your videos and I’ve laughed so hard so thank you so much
sorry for your loss x
I’m sorry for your loss, I know how it feels..Don’t worry time heals💗I hope your family is going to be okay. Stay strong❤️
I'm so very sorry for your loss. All my love to you and your family 💖💕 xx
♥️ sending love
So sorry for your lost. Sending all the love.
Hailey: *talks about 13 Reasons Why*
Me: Yes!!! I agree 100%!!!
Hailey: *talks about All the Bright Places*
Me: No!!! That's one of my faves!!! 🥺
Same!
same.......
I really didn't like all he bright places. If you loved it than I'm glad! But it wasnt for me :)
My least favorite was fifty shades of grey. It was just....no
I do agree with you about 13 reasons why.
This was my second worst book of the decade
snowingonolympus what was the first?
I remember I loved Matched but almost couldn’t finish reading the second one. I hated it
Yeah, I really love the first book but you were better off stopping where you did the plot of the series gets so odd but in a boring way and really goes nowhere like at all.
The first one is soooo good! Ky was my book boyfriend for a while, before my bookish heart returned to Edward Cullen lol.
I remember I got the book matched for like my 11th birthday and I only got halfway through, I think though I was a bit biased cause Ky just wasn't my favourite. But the book was written really well and had a good plot, it's just when I was eleven I loved my favourite characters to end up together and I got really annoyed when they didn't lol
What about cursed Child?
Edit:
There you go😂😂
Why does everyone hate the Cursed Child? It’s one of my favorites!
I think All the Bright Places has a hopeful message, but it's okay to have different opinions
When you're talking about All The Bright Places and 13 Reasons Why not having a hopeful message, I read both those books while suffering from suicidal ideation due to being abused and I *liked* that they didn't have push positivity because it felt more real to me. I haven't reread either since I was 17, so I don't know if my opinion would change as I'm an adult but I loved those books because I felt like they understood me and I related deeply to both when I found I couldn't relate to book with more of a positive twist. I understand your point but personally I found the opposite :)
Oh that reaction to 33 just hurt my 32 year old soul lol 🙈.
Hahah yes! Was going to comment the same! And I'm turning 33 in a week! 🧓😂
33 is still very young 💗🧚♀️.
🤣 I am stuck in my late 20s and 30s forever at the end of the next decade lmao everyone gonna be 40 me. Not yet. Help me.
I'm 33. Her reaction hurt my heart lol
Was looking for these comments.. I’m 34.. I feel attacked 😅
The book "Thirteen reasons why" didn't effect me much, but the TV show...it triggered a depression in me and was very hard on my mental health. I couldn't continue on with it, I can't read books that have suicide / deep depression in them still.
I have the same opinion on 13 reasons why even though I read it two times when I was younger and liked it. Nowdays I know the problems and I also identified that this book made my depression worse. But omg I have a completely different view on All the bright places. Its my absolute favorite book and it changed me with handling my metal illness really hard. It took me in a better place and thats while or maybe because I really identified myself with Finch. And I kinda get the part of where you said that they are more than they illnesses and thats true but tbh I was really happy that the book focus so much about this part because at this time I also was focused on mine. I had no time to do other stuff and I kinda was my illness like they are. So for me at least this was really relateable and I love this book. (Just my opinion I totaly okay that others have different views. Just wanted to share mine.)
I liked All the Bright Places, and understood both of the characters. When there were hints of his Bipolar being hinted, I liked that. I also get your point about hopeful but I also like when there isn’t a happy ending because not all endings are happy.
I read Thirteen reasons why years ago and I loved it. Then when the show started I re-read a few pages that I'd annotated and well... It was awful!!
Marina Rubio Books Obsession the same exact thing happened to me honestly
I am late to this video, but you talking about the book about school shootings, made me think of one I read a while back called 'This is where it ends" I picked it up in B&N and it was amazing. So sad, but really makes you think about this topic and handled it all very well. I have not heard a lot of people talk about and I think it should be.
I actually really loved All the bright places. I read it last year and I found it odd that there was no hopeful message at the end, but I loved seeing how the main characters' relationship developed
Hey Hailey.
First of all, I 100% agree with you about 13 Reasons Why. It’s an important subject that deserves more open discussion, and the tapes thing was an interesting premise, but like you said, it was handled badly. Hannah was so badly written by a certain point I almost wanted her to die! I just didn’t care about her at all!
My worst/least favourite book of the decade would have to be All The Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr. Just did not make any sense. I managed to get to the end even after the writer claimed the Second World War didn’t start until 1942! There were some really interesting parts about the German Hitler Youth boy and if it had focused more on him it would’ve been a much better book. But the wholly unrealistic blind girl and the magic diamond she needs to drop back into the sea to save the world - load of crap. That and the historical inaccuracies ruined it for me.
all the bright places is one of my favourite books of all time. i almost didn’t read it because i remember watching your videos saying how much you hated it. kinda bummed that you added it to your worst books of the decade list but to each their own i guess
I am so happy that you included 13 reasons why in this list. I swear when ever I say I hated the book people would start to argue with me but I will stick to my point that it would cause more harm to a person then to do be good for them. My friend once told me that then you should also hate perks of being a wallflower because it also is as controversial as 13 reasons why and I literally ranted to her for an hour because they are so different perks of being wallflower helped me so much because I was at a pointing hating high school after my freshman year but it mended me and I am so thankful.
I really hate Christmas and New Year, but I love Bookmas. You're amazing Hailey! Happy 2020!
I hated 13 Reasons Why too, I feel the message behind it was troubling. It felt to me like the main character put too much emphasis on small mistakes of various people in her life....and now they're going to live with that guilt for the rest of their lives. I avoided the show as well.
I remember being very confused by This Darkness Mine also, didn't get it at all. Strange because I actually love Mindy Mcginnis.
to be honest harry potter and the cursed child was disappointing but i got to see the play, and it was truly amazing, the special effects were so cool
"8 minutes ago" BE STILL, MY HEART
When you were talking about 13 Reasons Why, I was looking at All the Bright Places On My Bookshelf. I read it ages ago on the recommendation of a friend and haven’t gotten rid of it yet because I don’t want to donate it. That book triggered my own mental health problems and the idea of someone having the same experience from my copy bothers me.
Michaela Dimick You could always recycle the book or put a note with trigger warnings inside and donate it?
Yeah I completely blocked Cursed Child out of my mind. I refuse to acknowledge its existence
Why does everyone hate the Cursed Child? It’s one of my favorites!
I am right there with you on Thirteen Reasons Why. Back when it came out, it was on a Must Reads list at my high school. They put almost two dozen copies in circulation at the beginning of the year. There were so many that the library ended up giving some away for free. I remember getting a hold of one of those and being so disturbed by what I read. It didn’t seem like a book a school library should be recommending at all. The messages about suicide were so damaging. This was ten years ago. I imagine a lot of students are probably checking it out because of the Netflix series and that makes me so sad.
Yeah, my class had to pick a book to read 3 years ago and because a lot of them had seen the Netflix show it ended up being Thirteen reasons why. I had read it before and then having to read it again was terrible. To be honest I think it's a bit irresponsible to read it in class, because it's the type of book that could hurt students and the teacher wouldn't know.
In my opinion, This is Where it Ends focuses on the superficial things because the author wanted to portray the characters as what they were: just teenagers being soppy and doing teenager things. I thought it juxtaposed the horror of what they were going through with the reality of who they were. But I read that book about a year ago so lol
I thought the same thing like it almost made it more scary because they were just all normal relatable teens doing normal everyday things with for the most part everyday problems and then they weren’t. A book two would be interesting to delve into things I think she wanted to see more of
I don't even want to go anywhere near 13 Reasons Why. 😂
You reaction to forgetting the Cursed Child was the best part of this video! XD
Hey, Hailey! Just got Lock Every Door for Christmas. Book was pretty good. Wish it was less narrative based and more plot based, but was pretty good. Would you like to do a buddy read this year? Let me know what book, if so..
I started reading probably in 2016 or 2017. So far, I found both Jenny Colgan and Karen Swan's books not enjoyable. Way too much detail, which I didn't love, I found the books so so boring that I started giving them away to the charity shops as I know that someone else will love them more than I do. Harry Potter and the Cursed Child was not my favourite. I think I'll like the play more than book xx
when your favorite book is in it hurts a little bit 😅
the next book on my tbr is "all the bright places" and i was extremely pumped to read it ...... and then there it is, on the "worst books of the decade" list lol
Rianne Dijkstra Yeah same..... The Cursed Child....... one of my faves
I agree with you that books dealing with mental illness should have a positive message instead of leaving the reader in a dark whorl in which they are already in especially if they are suffering from mental illness.
I forgot all about reading Matched years ago and WOW I rolled my eyes so hard bc I forgot I had read it and that was my reaction.... when I read it back in 2014 I was 15/16ish and enjoyed it in the moment (the second one I hated and didn't even attempt to read the third) but looking back I'm cringing
I haven't watched this yet but I hope Harry Potter and the cursed child is mentioned in this video...
ahhh yes 😅
ahh yes 😅
A good YA book that doesn't glamourize/romanticize mental illness is Losing Adam by Adrienne Clarke. It's narrated by both Adam (who begins to present as schizophrenic) and his girlfriend, but the author does a good job of showing that just loving someone who is as sick as Adam is won't "save them". It's really scary at times because you're in Adam's head as he's having hallucinations/delusions, but it does really show you that mental illness isn't this quirky personality trait that the media loves to present it as. Unfortunately there isn't that much of a message of hope since there is no cure for schizophrenia and anti-psychotics aren't the kindest drugs, but again that's reality... but the author did a good job of showing that despite being so sick, Adam can still be loved which is probably one of the most important messages for someone suffering from any mental illness can receive.
Hello Hailey..I love your video a-lot I follow your recommendation.I never miss your video you look like a humble person..I love your video i’m your huge fan and I love how you talk about the books because of you I started reading more books than i used to..love you Hailey and never stop doing what you are doing now just keep going and be happy❤️😊
Hailey “I’m controversial” me “nahhh I love hailey’s reviews” hailey “I hated 13 reasons why...” Me: cries eternally. Lol I understand I felt it did have a positive end but I respect your opinion and love your videos! Also matched was bad but the series got worse.
I feel the same way about 13 Reasons Why. It affected how I live my life today, largely because I was someone who read it when I was suicidal.
@@VrieChica078 I agree also Valerie! It’s a book I think of also and same it was also during a dark time so it might feel more impactful especially when we need a book to voice our opinions.
I agree with All the Bright Places, I really really enjoyed reading the book but it missed so much opportunity. I would’ve loved to see both characters get help and change and maybe break up in the end if the author really wanted to end it with a “tragedy”. And now it’s becoming a Netflix movie. What’s worse is that the author is actually really sweet and her second book is AMAZING and I think she has no idea what damage her book can do.
OMG THE TEA IS GETTING SPILLED!!!!
I thought I was the only one that didn’t like All the Bright Places! The more I thought about the book, the more I didn’t like it.
Hailey: OMG I'll be 33!
Me: I'm...35...i'll be 45....OMG....
Lol your intro made me laugh 😂 I’m 41 so must be on the verge of death lol 😂
Lilme_78 I’m 38 so I’ve got one foot in the grave as well 🤣😂
MokaTutu I remember saying the same sort of thing though at that age, at 23 the 40+ years seemed a lifetime away but then I had kids and boy did those years fly past in a blink. Now I sound even older just with the start of this sentence 😂 oh my days this coffin dodger needs to be quiet lol 😂
Sorry you didn't like Bone Witch. I have yet to read it. Rin Chupeco is Chinese Filipino so I am curious if her writing style (including the way she synthesize the setting & events) will work for me. 😊🌴🇵🇭
Happy New Year & decade from the Philippines!!! 🎉🇵🇭💖💖
I totally expected Cursed Child. I have yet to read it but I basically spoiled the whole book by watching a video on it. I don’t like the idea of the plot at all 🤷♀️ but I’m still gonna read it
Welp when life gives ya lemons 😁
I don’t understand why everyone hates the Cursed Child. It’s one of my favorites!
I agree so much with matched and this is where it ends, only two books I’ve never been able to finish
I also agree about 13 reasons why and all the bright places.
Even though I really loved many of these I still appreciate diverse opinions. Thank you for being true to yourself and happy new year !
I was so glad to hear this. I didnt like 13 Reasons Why either. I have a friend who loves the show but to me the show was definitely much worse than the book. No hate to people who like this.
In ten years I’ll be 44. I’ll have a 14 year old and a 12 year old. I’m sure it’ll fly by though. Everything in its time :) Love your videos, Hailey!
Such an awesome video idea. Love it and your positivity x
You are seriously the cutest! I’m new to your channel and I’m loving your personality and content.
Hello, enjoyed the video! I have two books that I really hate so much:
1. The Man in the High Castle by Phillip K Dick (the ending made me so mad !)
2. Vampire Lestat series by Ann Rice (I tried three times to read it and just could not get through it)
My least favourite book that I read this decade (well, last decade now, as this video has been out for months) is ‘Anna and the French Kiss’. Never have I hated a book more than that one. I really liked Lola, and thought Isla was pretty good, but Anna...
Just wanna say I accidentally came across your channel because I was looking up Alice stuff. And I loved all the content and got sucked into the Bookmas. Hahahaha. I watch your videos while reading.
My worst books of the decade are Beautiful Disaster by Jamie McGuire (I originally rated it high and then realized how problematic this book was), Allegiant by Veronica Roth (for obvious reasons), Halo by Alexandra Adornetto (I had an angel phase once), The Crown by Kiera Cass (unnecessary conclusion), Surviving Ice by K.A Tucker (the romance was not it), and Without Merit by Colleen Hoover (overdramatic and problematic).
Could you link where you talk about I was born for this, because I'm very curious about it now
Two that come to mind are twisted and the summoning. I also couldn’t get passed the first five chapter of the young elites even though I loved legend so that was weird. Also a bunch of books that school forced me to read that are just not for me
I was shocked when The Cursed Child wasn't on there 😂 because that is my least favorite book of the decade as well! Also The Casual Vacancy...2 from JK Rowling.
Why does everyone hate the Cursed Child? It’s one of my favorites!
my least favourite reads are probably john green's books 😂
My top five worst books of the decade:
1. Beautiful by Amy Reed
2. The Taming of the Shrew by William Shakespeare
3. Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist by Rachel Cohn and David Levithan
4. Wicked by Gregory Maguire
5. Isla and the Happily Ever After by Stephanie Perkins
omg isla is the BEST book throughout the three (anna, isla, and lola) it’s very fun and quirky :(
I agree with you on 13 Reasons Why, but I think the Netflix series was even worse than the book in terms of glamourizing suicide
I really disliked Winters Tale by Mark Helprin. I think its like 700 pages long but I could only make it through 150. I picked it up because I really love the movie but the book was (at least in those 150 pages) nothing like it. and beside that (I am ok with books and movies being different and I can even like both), but it was also very confusing and dragging so much. I dont know if I ever will go back to that book, but I think I much rather watch the movie again :D
Me...33...my gray multiplied lol
What I took from 13RW is that you just shouldn’t be a dick to people because you don’t know what they’re going through. Be a friend to people be kind
It's actually mindblowing that we will be 30+ in 2029 😨😨😭
Preach!! All the bright places started off strong but when she added the romance in everything just went downhill. She made it seems like romance is the “cure” for all illness and it’s just nahh. Could be sooo much better if they stayed friends helping each other out with their mental illness. Like just noooooo. Soo much lost potential ☹️☹️.
My worst books of the decade
1. Cursed Child
2. Crossed (yes Matched series gets 10x worse somehow)
3. Killing November
4. City of Lost Souls
5. City of Fallen Angels
6. The Retribution of Mara Dyer
7. Everything, Everything
8. The Sun is Also a Star
9. A Court of Thorns and Roses
10. Throne of Glass
11. Mockingjay
My least favourite book of the decade was Balefire by Cate Tiernan! The plot went nowhere and it was sooooo boring to read. I love her Sweep series, though! Another book that I dislike is The Vampire Diaries. I haven’t finished that series but the books did get better towards the end, when LJ Smith stopped writing them and the ghost writer took over, so who knows if they stayed good. I probably never will lol!
All the Bright Places is really divisive so I can understand why it’s on your worst books but I disagree. It’s one of my favorites. But I definitely agree with Thirteen Reasons Why. It’s very damaging.
Bone Witch was very much a retread series. You weren't really suppose to understand everything till the final book in the series. Would suggest binge reading.
For me I would say worst were cursed child and After. Also, I used to love 13 reasons why but after I've been like educated and such I don't like it anymore either
Personally I didn't mind Matched when I read it a couple years ago but the sequel splits in multiple point of views and it gets confusing so I stopped reading the series
I had to read Matched for school, and I’m glad someone agrees with me. It was anticlimactic and nothing really ever happened.
My Worst Book Of The Decade: Anna & The French Kiss!
It was just pure awful. I truly do not have a single good thing to say about that book.
I'm with you. I have never hated a book more than I hated 'Anna & the French Kiss'. As soon as she realised she was in love, Anna just became despicable.
I liked the other two books in the series well enough, but 'Anna'...
absorbed twins is its own genre
I’m confused, what’s the name of the book with the horrible, spoiled MC and was a quick romance?
Piece of Work is probably one of the worst books I've read this decade. I only got 100 pages in but it was torture.
I hated 13 reasons why too it was way too confusing. The show made more since. I also hated circe.
oh god. I'll be 33 too 😱 I loved I Was Born For This but it was still interesting to hear your perspective!
The Cursed Child is cursed, indeed
I just finished filming a video where I complained about 13 reasons why lol I'm glad to see someone agree with me
The Bronze Horseman. Just... holy cow did it piss me off to no end.
Like you i put terrible books out of my mind. But I will agree, Cursed Child was awful. But the Matched trillogy holds a very special place in the toilet for me. I kept thinking it would get better. It never did. Nothing happened. Terrible. It was a lesson on why we should dnf.
Haven’t read through all the comments I’m not sure if anyone else has said this, and it’s a bit of a spoiler but doesn’t ruin an ending..but The Dark Half by Stephen King ... stop reading now if you don’t want to know anything at all about this book... and I’ll try to be vague...but it does tackle one of the subjects/plots that you mentioned on this list....It’s kind of a weird thing that is not the subject of very many books that I know of! Anyways you’re probably already familiar with this book, but I thought it was interesting that someone else attempted to do what sounds like a very similar story.
Man I love youuuuu ! I agree to each & every opinion
I thought about doing this but I don’t think I’ll remember everything. Regardless, I KNOW that the worst book I read this decade has got to be Me and Earl and the Dying Girl. Everytime I think of a bad book I remember this one, I hated it with a passion hahahhah
Finally, someone who feels the same about ATBP! I love you Hailey! 💜
My most disliked books are usually conclusions to series that disappoint. Allegiant and Traitor Born come to mind. You become invested in the characters over time and t feels like a betrayal when their story arc goes weird. That’s probably why you hate The cursed child so much.
okay so i dont know what i really want to say but i feel like i need to let you know that watching your videos gives me a really great vibe and idkk i love it
Worst books for me this decade was Cassandra Clare’s mortal instruments series’ first three books put me in the worst reading slump
I didnt read 13 reasons why but I did watch the show and while it is kind of fucked up i more got the message of you need to be mindful of your actions and the impact they have on others, that there are things people are going through that you might have no knowledge of, to always speak up when someone does something wrong, and to not disregard someone who is clearly going through a mental health struggle. Maybe the tv show is more sensitive on the topic than the book?
