Fun fact: The Pharcyde were working on Labcali and were looking for an additional producer, and at the time, Q-Tip was working with Mobb Deep on their 95' album, The Infamous. Q-Tip wasn't able to directly help the Pharcyde with production for their album, but he referred them to a fellow producer in Detriot that shaped the way of sampling and hip-hop. That was none other than the great J Dilla. RIP JAY DEE.
From featuring with de la soul early on 3 feet high, discovering nas, mobb deep, j dilla and busta rhymes..... Q tip impact on hip hop is hella underappreciated, on top of all he was kinda the godfather of jazz rap, yet he's never mentioned in any top 20/top 10. Pretty crazy.
@@matteocellucci8090 No doubt. A lot of people forget he pioneered the path for a lot of artists and even producers back in the day. Just like how he says in one of the Tribe Called Quest songs, Keep It Moving, "How you get West coast N****, from West coast hater? I could never diss a whole coast, my time is too greater", Q-Tip was never ashamed to work with artists from both sides. He wasn't on no beef shit. Thats what I appreciate the most about him.
one thing to note, im not sure who it was, but one of the members of Pharcyde upon hearing the demo for Runnin tried rerecording J Dilla's drums in the studio cause he didnt like how wonky they sounded and then JD found out and a big argument ensued. one of the other members convinced the others to keep the drums and told Jay Dee what he did was unique
@@zyzzyz7035 uhhh no, actually I watched Q-tip's interview posted by RedBull Music Academy... lmao
@@grief8060 facts, the unquantized drums make the record unique
Incredible how Dilla had in his sleeve even down here Brasil songs like "saudade vem correndo", fantastic. Fun fact, the name of the sample song is "longing comes running"
That’s incredible. The more you know, the better
entao
Genuinely think this is one of the best tracks ever made in history.
Yes in hip hop but in general? Calm down
@@notprosperBEATS Nah 93 til infinity is better.
@@KLK01 that's right
@@KLK01 or aquemini by outkast
@@notprosperBEATS Man OutKast had some bangers.
Anytime, I hear a Dilla track I always get mad inspiration to start creating
He just makes it look so damn easy 🎉
Can yall do a Full Album sample breakdown of "Metaphorical Music" or "Modal Soul" both by Nujabes.
I'd be SO down for this.
I'm pretty sure they only do full album breakdowns for the big, popular ones only unfortunately
@@lRlMlGlThey do breakdowns only for samples that they have in their website i think
'Saudade vem correndo' is portuguese for 'Saudade comes running', which fits really well. 😊
Cool as hell
cant keep runnin awaaaaaay
Run run, run, run
J DILLA YAY ! Thank you so much TRACKLIB !
You guys are on a hit streak.. please keep going!
hoping dead presidents ii by jay-z is a future flip video
This has always been one of my favorites from Dilla before hearing the song. Definitely need more videos like this. Matter a fact, I can listen to J Dilla break down videos all day. Which is why there should be a 30 min video dedicated to somewlike that 🔥
I remember when this beat dropped on "Fallen" by Mya back in 2003. Such an amazing beat.
the transition from the high part of the sample to the low part where they sampled was so cold 0:08
This sample also used in DIKEMBE!
Def one of my favorite beats of all time
Wait, what!? Brazilian music right there!? I had no idea about it! E eu tô feliz pra caralho sabendo disso!!!
Eu também. a última vez que eu vi um "sample" Brasileiro era uma música do Pitbull com a Lambda
Look into Madlib, Dilla and Nujabes because they love their Brazilian music
Procura no UA-cam um vídeo chamado “Obrigado Dilla”.
One of the most chill beats I always come back to. Thanks for featuring this!
Wow! the layers here are just impeccable. Love it! J Dilla was dat DUDE! RIP
This man was a genius! So creative
And still STILL one of the best instrumentals constructed!! A true jazz fan who knew what to look for to create this sound, rip Jdilla ❤
Dang I didn’t realize they used a Run DMC sample, that’s dope! Not a lot of people were using their music 😮
IVE BEEN WAITING THIS FOR A LONG TIME🙏🙏🙏🙏🔥🔥🔥🔥
Oh man I've been waiting for this one! It's interesting how the vibe of the original song totally changes for just the two bars that Dilla sampled
might look simple but the bass chopping that wasnt shown is nuts, taking the bass from the horn section during the chorus and a different bass pattern stretched out from the original guitar during a different section (at least from what i remember).
He isolated the right side of the sample? Because listening to the stereo version of the loop sounds very different from the original.
Also the way he chopped sounds different.
YESS FINALLY I"VE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS SONG
hands down one of the best hip hop songs / samples in existence
finally one of the greatest songs with a sample breakdown
*Love it*
Genius brazilian sample.
Com ctz mano
yesssss IVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS ONE
Love how the run run run Kayne sampled. Kaynes song is what led me to find this song
One of the coolest beats i ever heard
my favorite song of all time, j dilla really is a genius for making this nostolgic ass beat
one of the best tracks EVER
Dilla had to make this beat twice according to the book “Dilla Time”
He also played the drums (through the mpc) by hand through the entire track if I remember correctly.
Classic!
j dilla is actually a genius
classic beat, a beat so good I have been places that will play just the beat over their speakers in amidst other songs because it's just that good
I love how so many hip hop producers sample bossa nova. Long live jay dee 🕊
we didn't need to wait for so long for this
Dilla was a master producer.
Sick af. Love it.
I was waiting for this since i born 🔥🔥😭
finaly this breakdown is out
will never forget this song
Thank you Tracklib
One of the best sample and beat in the whole Rap Era
"Saudade vem correndo"
Cheers from Brazil
That shi gave me chills. COLD. 😬❄
The beat actually switches up to a whole other section later in the song, it’s even better than shown here
It's wild that Juice later sampled this song for his song "Make Believe"
saw them on a concert yesterday they still got the energy
Genius!
One of the best songs ever made
More rap songs should sample Bossa Nova music 🙌🏿
whoa!
Imagine being this cool
the greatest hiphop producer of all time
Only OGs know this is a re-upload.
Is it? I knew they did Drop but not this
@@mrlevinielsen they did.
Dilla🔥
I always wish jay dee was alive... Mad respect and inspiration
Sheesh 🔥🔥
Love how dilla made samples speak for him. Wonder what he would be doing today?
Damn!
This song and beat are the definition of a true classic
Day 16 of asking tracklib to break down "Brand New" by Rhymefest
Al final del segundo track de Run DMC se escucha el comienzo de un sampled que luego usaron "The Alkaholiks" en uno de sus temas famosos.
now we're talking! RIP JAY DILLA
Late video for this channel but better late then never
yaaaz
🔥
rip to the king of beats
RIP DILLA!!! 🔥
They also sample saudade later on which is part of chorus/guitar riff. The bass is less noticeable
Really informative, great video :D One question: Do you know, where the samples are from the song love kills by 9th wonder? I was wondering, where the chorus came from?
Passin' Me By next, this shit is good
cool
💎🌞
nice one. Can you do acid raindrops by people under the stairs, please?
Whoa Jay Dee was so skilled when it came to making beats.
Ye sampled this song recently!!!
Proud of the Brazilian origin 🇧🇷
Hit us with something crazy obscure
gotta do the remix now with the gap band sample
I was wondering if that James Moody sample was actually legit or not when I first saw it on whosampled, thanks for confirming it for me
Just Jay Dee going to town
Should’ve included this for the Iconic Sample Flip Honorable Mention of 1995
Real ones know how much of a legend Luiz Bonfa is
Incredible Sample. Love this song. Dilla is one of the most underrated producers. Much love for him❤ Rip🕊
Fun fact, pharcyde didn't like the kick pattern but clearly were won over.
Yeah they had a physical fight after one of them quantized jay dee’s kicks, and eventually agreed to change it back
@@ikejime77that’s so wild 😂
LabCali is awesome especially when none other than J Dilla that was producing this and Drop and other sutff, The unpredictability and rawness that was on Bizarre (Pharcyde's first album) will never be topped especially when J Swift was producing that Record.
Rip J Dilla, the MPC god
👍
Can you do 1nce again next?
Could you please do "like you" by bow wow
I love J dilla but can you do feel the fiyahhhh by metro boomin?

What about the sax bits?
Ain’t that the sample in Make Believe by juice Wrld too
was looking for that comment, yes it is
I don’t know if this would work but do you think you can do the sample from Jaden Smith’s ICON? it’s a song by Cab Calloway and it’s done pretty cool
