You can just picture them sitting round the fire at Bron -Yr- Aur cottage in 1970 & Jimmy strumming this on his acoustic guitar. Oh for a time machine.....
When you do "Down By The Seaside" tomorrow you might replay this song because it flows into tomorrow's song. Just saying. Have your GF there as well. "Down By The Sea Side" is a smooth song and relaxing as well.
You just never Clapton, Hendrix , Van Halen..all, these guitar gods..play stuff as beautiful as this. Page writes like a painter uses a canvas. Just so nice.
How about the fact that every song on this album is the greatest rock and roll ever recorded? Side one alone blows away the competition and then you have 3 sides more. Keep in mind that this is their sixth album. 5 amazing landmark triumphs ahead of this double album masterpiece.
This piece of music is just so sublime, don't just love how it moves around your head with headphones on? Bron Y-Aur Stomp on the other hand is a really happy gotta dance song that Robert wrote about his dog Strider...named of course after one of the heroes from Lord of the Rings otherwise known as Aragorn. Love that one too.
Impressed with your reactions, Led Zepplin is one of my favourite bands. A bit different but also a favourite of mine is The Band. Would love to hear what you guys think!
This song is really fun to play on guitar!! So peaceful. Excited for you to listen to Ten Years Gone (1990 Remastered Version). It's truly a masterpiece even to their standards as a band.
Hey Silas Great reaction. You and Alivia should check out the acoustic set they did live in 1975. It’s an awesome set and the songs they do you’ve already covered. Love how a band as loud and heavy as Zep can just throw an acoustic set into their act and still sound amazing
Amazing, isn't it, that the same man who could play all those insane electric guitar solos could also play this? I have always love "Zoso". It's my favorite Zep album of all time. Only nine songs on the album and not a throwaway in the bunch. I love to mellow out to this song.
That squeeky sound you're referring to is caused by the small wire wrapped around the guitar string. This is needed on the lower sounding strings to give more 'heft' to the string. The squeeky sound you hear is considered unwanted. Guitarists try hard to avoid that sound from happening but it slows the playing speed. In other words, if they played slower you probably wouldn't hear any noise at all. It's a compromise to how much of that sound is heard. They even have 'flat-wound' strings that don't make much sound at all. First the string is wound with the wire and then polished smooth.
I love the sound of calloused fingertips sliding up and down the frets. For acoustic mastery, ck out Tommy Emmanuel. Unbelievably good and a cool guy. Considered the best in the world at this time. Have seen him twice and met him once. Live stuff only!
@@JoeandAngie Of course I know who Emmanuel is. But I'll bet even he tries to avoid making the screech noise across the lower strings. And even Tommy can't avoid doing it. And you can believe he's trying to. That's how tough it is to do. BTW - A carbuncle is a cluster of boils - painful, pus-filled bumps - that form a connected area of infection under the skin. A boil is a painful, pus-filled bump that forms under your skin when bacteria infect and inflame one or more of your hair follicles. Sounds Brutal ! !
Someone who appreciates guitar as you seem to, should definitely listen to some of Eric Clapton's older stuff, like Cream, Derek and the Dominoes, etc. He was also a member of the Yardbirds, which is the band that Led Zeppelin eventually evolved from (after Jimmy Page was the sole remaining member). Also, Stevie Ray Vaughan and Pink Floyd are musts.
Bron-Yr-Aur is Welsh for "breast of the gold", or by extension, "hill of the gold" or "golden hill". It is a privately owned 18th-century cottage, on the outskirts of Machynlleth, in Montgomeryshire, mid-Wales.
I'm about halfway through the reaction but I just heard your comment about how you love that squeaky sound with their fingers with the guitar and as a musician and multi-instrumentalist including guitars, that is really fantastic that you noticed that and that you like it. I feel the same way. It's just happens when you've got an acoustic guitar and it's Mike up real well you're going to also pick up every little noise and often that would be the fingers squeaking on the strings as they keep pressure on it to slide to a different note. And in summer courtings, the goal is to try to get rid of that noise because it's distracting. But I'm more with you, it does give it that bit of a live feel which in any case it is technically live it's just not in front of people, laugh. But yeah great observation.
I'm in a browser for this one and not the UA-cam app so I cannot edit my comment. But yeah I used voice translate and hit send before looking it over. That is supposed to say mic'd up real well, in other words with proper microphone placement and high quality microphones. And then also not summer sessions, but for some recording sessions, the goal is to try to eliminate that noise. But I love it personally.
A note, in case you weren't aware; this song is done entirely on one guitar (by Jimmy, of course) in one take. It uses an alternate tuning, I believe DGCGCD (same as The Rain Song), and is VERY difficult to play, with the slides and the continuing baseline all running in one stream. The tone of this was very nice, and it was probably the choice of keeping the tone, or eliminating the string squeaks. As for who to do next, I think you'd like reacting to Yes, with the best 3-album stretch going from The Yes Album, to Fragile, then Close To The Edge. These were, in my opinion, their best lineup(s) and best albums (EVERY song on all 3 are excellent!), and by just doing the 3 you won't get burnt out. Enjoy!
Just some corrections: the tuning is cacgce. Its actually not too difficult. I actually recommend it as a good beginner-intermediate fingerstyle song. The reason it sounds so complex is because of the tuning, as it’s mostly just rolling fingerstyle, with simple chord shapes.
First and foremost, we'll start with Queen, then in random order: Styx, Steely Dan, Van Halen, AC/DC, The Eagles, Rush, Guns & Roses, Aerosmith, Pink Floyd, ZZ Top, Boston, Cheap Trick, Journey, Tears For Fears, Bad Company, Foreigner, Steve Miller Band, and I'm sure some I'm forgetting, but that'll get you started in the right direction.
I guess you need some mellow stuff interspersed with the head bangers for balance. My recommendation for a new band is Kansas. A lot of good stuff there.
My son's luthier, Tim Malone, was just hired by Kansas's guitarist a few months ago! Son got to ck out his custom Les Paul Goldtop and his beater acoustic. He did NOT play it , of course, but he did finger it! Said it was like buttah... edit: in high school everyone used Carry On My Wayward Son to test out their car stereos. Pioneer Supertuners and Jenson Coaxial speakers...best days ever
@@JoeandAngie That's very cool. Les Paul's are legendary and it's very cool to have that connection. Oh yes I remember aftermarket car stereo's were big back then. And cranking Carry On Wayward Son in a variety of places. Believe it or not back in the day, Kansas played with Queen, and I saw them in Dayton, Ohio, 1973 I believe $4.50 tickets. Many years later I saw Kansas in a bar in Cleveland, around the early '90's. So we must be around the same age, LOL.
If you're going on with the sort of "classic rock" of the 60's and 70's, the list could be overwhelming, and everybody's gonna say these, but what the hell: The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Who, Jimi Hendrix, Pink Floyd, Black Sabbath, David Bowie, for starters...
this is a great song but to play it on an acoustic guitar properly one must tune their E string all the way down to a C.... thats that droning note... a C... peace.. and p.s... Braun Yr Aur Stomp... is totally different... ✌
Hey Silas. Love your solo reactions, but really love when Alivia is onboard too! My recommendation is for a relatively new band out of Mexico called The Warning. The band is comprised of 3 sisters (current ages are 17 thru 22),who are incredibly talented musicians and live performers. They started out doing covers but now have around 50 original songs released. I’ve never heard a weak song by them, and most of their songs are absolute perfection. Many in the industry are calling them the future of rock. But, I have to warn you - their music is highly addictive. I’ve been listening to their music for about 2-3 hours a day for the past 3 years. The music video for Choke would be a great place to start. Thanks again for all the Led Zep reactions. Nice to get reacquainted with one of my favorite bands that I grew up with in the 70s.
You desperately need to dive into early Deep Purple and Black Sabbath, just to get an inkling of what was going on after Flower-Power got a kick in the nuts. Woodstock '69 being done and dusted and all that. The Zeppsters are a good start 'cause they're a fantastic band, but listening to only Zepp can cause a kind of tunnel-vision, some sort of one-sided sight on what rock was all about coming out of the sixties. You need to expand that vision by listening to Deep Purple, Black Sabbath and Uriah Heep to broaden your horizons. Warm greetings from Belgium.
Hey Silas……love Zep, but if you want to sprinkle other bands in between it’s ok. 😁. We won’t hold your feet to the fire if you want an occasional break

when you slide up and down the strings the callouses on your fingertips rub on the wound strings causing that squeaking.
This what make Page so brillant,a finger picking acoustic song,.....a English 'folk' song,...
This could be 20 minutes long and I would be happy. You need to listen to Page playing White Summer live, it's incredible.
