That you don’t need much actual musical ability to make music these days. Not a dig, I think it’s usually always good to widen access to things and allows creativity in other ways.
If you could make a video showing off how all the hardware is connected and how you set up the midi send/receive in ableton, that would be hugely educational and helpful. Share the knowledge! Great video as always, Ricky
I just love how you have a camera for every setup. I don't know if people appreciate how you just have multiple cameras pointed this way and that for each possible musical moment, but it's excellent how easy you make it look. And it never is. Great jam video. Great stuff as always.
Absolutely unreal! You don’t understand how much of a groove you’ve got me in. Back on the Push2 killing it. Thanks for getting me back on my game 🥰💥💥💥
This is what I love about your stuff, Ricky. You don't pretend to be some legendary pianist (see your "cheat code" section) or theory buff. You enjoy making music, having a good time, and make dope tracks. It's an inspiration to other people, like me, that theory wise, have no idea what they're doing. Love it
Listen, music theory is totally worth learning and it helps musicians to better understand music. I am all for people taking the time to learn it, but it’s important to remember that it’s an entirely dead concept without a musician to give it life. Some people think that the trick to becoming a better musician is learning more. That’s a great tool and a great way to get better (practice as well), but it’s really about learning who you are as a musician and leaning into that. You are the one who gives life to the music. The theory is just all of the music boiled down to its core, but the musician is the vessel that gives the music life.
It’s so funny to me that lots of musicians are so resistant to actually learning about harmony. It’s been there for thousands of years. It’s like painters refusing to learn how to mix colors or something. Like… kinda duh that learning harmony would make the music sound good. Preach it bro. Too many electronic musicians are like “scales and chords are boring”. Then they go to some bullshit pre made chord pack or “scale mode” or some shit and let the computer essentially pick all the notes for them. Then they add a compressor and feel like they really made something. Why not just take a moment to study music…. My point: I’m glad you’re studying harmony.
My burger must be defective, just ate one and my jam was nowhere near this good🤣 A testament to your MASSIVE talent is just how easy and fluid you make it all seem bro, thanks for sharing the passion, I really felt this one❤️
You look so happy that I am happy for you. Thanks for sharing this jam with us. So much treasures of inspirations here. It is thanks to you I got into dawless this year. Now I turned to hardware I discovered that it is the jamming and learning itself that is the joy, not the end product that might come out of it.
I used to watch you every week and then there was a little bit where I was kind of over your videos. This one has pulled me right back in. One of your all time greats!
Fun! What a great way to show us how well your studio works. You have a nice blend of hardware and software working together in harmony and this video proves just how fun it is when everything is set up well - to just make music!
Man, this dudes way of making music is so clean. The set up is dope and the quality of videos is awesome. Very addictive channel. Keep em coming! Greetings from Ireland 🇮🇪
Man, this is your best video. This is how I imagine its done. Apreciatte also de fact that this time your voice its more balanced and lower so I could really ear the music loud enough to please me. What a great Jam and amazing studio awareness hands on control, Big inspiration mate!
I feel you on learning scales. I spent awhile practicing and building the muscle memory for every natural major/minor scale on piano and it really does make things that easy.
Haven't watched any of your vids in a hot minute, good to come back and see you still jammin'! I'm trying to get back into making tunes after taking a break for 6-7 months; almost feels like I have to relearn everything all over again, so damn rusty!
Ricky I dig your style and whole approach, both to your music, but also how you come across on camera. Thanks for the content and all the best from the U.K.
Ah man. Watching you play those first few keyboard parts led me to have one of my many moments of thinking 'I really should learn some scales/chords after making electronic music for 20 years' and then you paused the tune and said it directly to camera. I need to get on it! Thanks man!
Hope this comment reaches you! First time watcher searching for some creative inspiration and this video came up! What a vibe that was to hear and see, and so good to see someone just jamming, doing something that they love and just having a good time with the end result sounding like magic. Look forward to seeing and hearing more very soon ✌️
Dude. Ricky! That jam is so dope! It takes me back to the mid 90s driving around late at night bumpin tracks like that! I love the vibe so much! One thing I’d love to know, as it’s where I’m kinda at in my production journey, is how you’re setting up your studio. Using hardware is new to me as I’ve always been in the computer, so understanding all the unexpected things that come up and make life easy would be so cool to see how you’re doing it. Like routing all you hardware and being able to do things like instantly add in the Zen, like opening a plugin! So hype! Keep it going man, I’ll definitely be here for the love. Cheers
So so good Ricky! Total treat to see you having fun just making music! Your comprehensive knowledge comes through as you talk through your decisions and keep moving! Also, it’s rare to see someone have an idea out loud, decide to do something in #dawless, then just execute it in real time. I learned a ton about your real workflow and your real gear from this video as well. MORE OF THIS. 👏 Please 😎
Great that you found a use for that synth rack. I got myself one but after over a year of trying to somehow integrate it into my studio (which is arranged in a broken square shape around me) I just gave up. It's utterly un-usable if you work on your music while sitting down, and I discovered that modified 3-tier TV rack with an extra added 4th top shelf works much better. When I bought it somehow I imagined that it would go down a lot lower that it did, but even when I tried to modify it, - the front leg supports were sticking out way too much and I'd constantly stumble over them ))
it’s goal af dude, just getting into hardware stuff recently, I have my first mpc1000, soon the minilogue XD, hyped on having a whole hardware studio tu make thoses beautiful jam on Lofi/lofi house/chillhop/ambient tracks ! i loved this video dude keep it up
New favorite video from you Ricky! And I've watched quite a few! Straight up amazing vibes and flow, here's to your jam sessions always bringing you this much happiness 🤟
Ricky, thank you so much for your content. Just love the approach each and every time. When I feel that my cup seems empty, I'm always able to go to your channel for a re-fill.
Yo I'd really love to have some of your jam sessions on Spotify - monologue in the middle about scales and all. It's incredibly relaxing and stimulating to listen to a skilled person improvising beautiful music and enjoying themselves.
I found your channel by pure coincidence, but it's a beautiful one. Thanks for sharing that energy and excitement, it really inspired me to sit again on my desk and jam like you. You have a new suscriber, thank you for creating!
Not that I do, and this is no comment on your creations, but dude--I could watch your videos with the sound off!! That damn ambiance you have created in your workspace just soothes my soul to the CORE!!! 🙏🏽😌🙏🏽
Hey man your enthusiasm is infectious. Knowing your gear so the tech doesn’t get in the way of the jam is admirable. How do you focus & learn a specific instrument without getting overwhelmed by all the other kit & options? Big up the Tinez House Massive!
This was great! I'm just about to finish up my new studio. Really looking forward to take this idea home. This brought me a lot of inspiration. Thank you!
this ALMOST views like a video telling people that learning to play one's instrument is pretty important in becoming.. a... producer??? .... not sure tho. you can make fire tracks with THIS ONE TRICK! (: enjoyed watching it unfold.
Loved seeing the Syntakt come back out (thought it vanished!). Do you think it's going to be a keeper? Regarding the other instruments, what determines you recording audio or MIDI? Noticed the Grandmother (which sounds soooo good btw) was MIDI but Nord was audio. Is it based on the tweakability of the instrument or just how you have things routed? Daaaamn this jam... you make it look way too easy! (Arrangement video next week? 😛)
Oh yea, the Syntakt is for sure a keeper. It reminds me of a 606 on steroids, and the good kind of steroids! (if thats a thing) Audio or midi depends on if i want to play with the sound a bit more to get it dialed in vs nailing it. The Nord, doesn't have much to edit and i think it sounds good by default. I can't really change attack, or filter envs etc.

what did i just listen to? I feel like this song was missing from my life now im whole geez!
What did I get out of this? That sometimes music is just inexpressible joy - and I forget that way too often. So thank you, friend.
Exactly. Sometimes you just have to make music just for the sake of it. No release, no mixing, no mastering just making.
I thought for a second there that you were saying "inexpensively" and I was just about to say "Yo!"
That you don’t need much actual musical ability to make music these days. Not a dig, I think it’s usually always good to widen access to things and allows creativity in other ways.
This is probably one of my favorite videos I’ve ever seen you do man. The pure joy, the vibe, this is ENTIRELY what its about. Love it!!
