Hey Chyde. Just know that we haven't forgotten about you. I'm sure you just have a lack of motivation for finishing this series, which is totally understandable. But we're still here for you. Always
It's honestly a shame he's gone radio quiet, but at least the retrospective ended on a high note with TP. This is def his best produced video so far. Still holding out hope for that Phantom Hourglass video someday!
Chyde went in to review Phantom Hourglass and never returned. We salute our brave soldier for his conquest, and pray upon the north star each night that he is able to make it out alive with a thorough and fruitful critique. (Or he just doesn’t wanna play fucking Phantom Hourglass)
Chyde I am so proud of you. You said it would be out this month and you kept your promise. And judging from the fact that its an hour and a half long video, I can see why it took so long to make. You're a dedicated guy to have made this with everything that's going on. Plus I'm having the single worst time of my life in high school right now, so I feel this video is just what I need. Time to watch it. My hopes are high
Wow. It’s been a while since I last visited this channel, and I have to say that this series is probably one of the single best examples of what a good analysis series should be. I absolutely love in-depth dives into games like these, and the way you’ve gone in and dissected each game in a way that’s both very person yet still fairly objective is honestly amazing. Great work with these, man. I honestly hope this series picks back up some day. I’d love to hear your analysis of Phantom Hourglass, haha.
Just finished rewatching this series. The main reason why you are one of two of my favorite Zelda-reviewing channels, the other being Matthewmatosis, is because you are the single most passionate fan of this series on not just UA-cam, but everyone I know of in my life. The love you hold for this series alone brings so much character, entertainment, and rewatchablility to your videos. All this to say, I don't mind the long indefinite hiatuses you take because I take it as you've lost passion for the time being. I wouldn't want to watch a video you weren't able to pour your heart into, so instead of moping about it, I instead only look forward to the day I see your next video in my notification box.
Windwaker is great! But I gotta say Twilight Princess is my favorite game of all time! Minda is great and being wolf Link is Great! Love the Vid Bud!!!
dawg u killing me 😥 u started this series my freshman year of high school. Now im a freshman in college. I will not give up hope on this series and I hope you dont either,
I've been dying to watch this video, but I wanted to wait until I got to Twilight Princess in my own retrospective. Now that it's finally written and published, I've got to say: this is easily the best retrospective in your series so far. Even if I disagree with a few points you bring up, I think you've done an outstanding job at framing the issues surrounding TP's development and how it impacted the game. And I'm really glad you ripped into TP HD. I would honestly say it looks worse than the GameCube original (which I hold firm is the actual definitive version - just a pity about the difficulty.) TPHD's color palette looks far too muted for me, and I think the lighting effects becomes too naturalistic, almost conflicting with the opposition towards photorealism Satoru Takizawa wanted to avoid in the art direction. The GameCube's color palette balances a nice blend of loud (almost neon-esque) colors with more Earth tones than are typical for the franchise. To defend Wolf Link's role narratively, I would actually argue its weight is more thematic than anything else. Being transformed against his will gives Link a kindred connection to Midna while also uprooting his life and spurring him on his hero's journey. I've also always read Link's ending as being unable to return to Ordon Village, so him turning into a beast at the start of the game naturally plays into that for me. I have to disagree hard on Link's characterization in TP. I do not get apathy from him whatsoever. He's not as emotionally expressive as Toon Link, but he has subtle reactions to the world around him. He gets angry, sad, happy. His emotion is there, it's just more stoic and not as loud as in The Wind Waker. I think it's a bit unfair to say he's back to being a silent avatar. His arc is one about inspiring others' heroism - Midna can't develop without Link. I'd say his arc goes hand in hand with becoming a beast and being unable to come home. It plays second fiddle to Midna's arc, but I don't think that's a bad thing or a disservice to his character. I also think it's important to keep in mind that while Aonuma's direction may have come from a place that lacked heart, he didn't write the story: Aya Kyogoku did. By all accounts, it seems like she genuinely wanted to improve the story and make it better than what it was. She even told Satoru Iwata she wanted one more month to work on the game. That doesn't strike me as someone who was writing a passionless plot. I will say your criticism is dead on for Princess Zelda, though. She simply does not emote and there's little of actual value to her character. I am very glad you agree that Zelda should have stayed dead. We have very different takes on the story and I don't want it to seem like I'm criticizing your work (because this episode is genuinely top notch) so I'll relent from commenting on that front. For what it's worth, though, Zelda's role in the plot is a real outlier for me and my main gripe with the plot. It is strange how TP handles exploration via the Tears of Light, isn't it? You can see where they're feeling out how they'll eventually develop Skyward Sword, but that game manages to balance the whole "structure the overworld as a dungeon" gimmick with far more grace. It's also a crying shame how easy combat is. I knew there was no way you couldn't discuss it, but I'm glad you did. I love the Hidden Skills and how swordplay feels, but fuck, the game is just so easy. I desperately wish Nintendo added in Hero Mode earlier so I could play the GameCube version and get something resembling a challenge. What's worse is that the enemy design is actually fairly clever and the fact humanoids start wearing armor in later dungeons should theoretically lend the game a respectable curve. But it doesn't. This to me will always be my biggest gripe with Twilight Princess. I like this game quite a lot, but Nintendo made a serious mistake with difficulty balancing. (I do think auto-lock and auto-block are legitimately good mechanics, though, they just aren't utilized properly due to the easy gameplay.) The fact you bring up sound design is very warranted and I'm honestly disappointed in myself for not paying more attention to it! You're spot on , Twilight Princess' sound effects are incredible. On another note, your retrospective is great for just highlighting the smaller, finer details that others tend to miss. I also have to say that your dungeon analysis is fantastic. You always point out things I either miss or just don't appreciate enough. Like, I've always loved the fact Twilight Princess puts Heart Pieces in its dungeons, but you articulated that they're often the best puzzles in their respective dungeons. I've been waiting for this kind of analysis since Mark Brown's Boss Keys video on TP haha. I discuss this in my retrospective, but part of what I really like about Arbiter's Grounds is how it forces you to actually use Wolf Link (and meaningfully, at that.) I also think the lighting & atmosphere are phenomenal, and Stallord's one of the few bosses you can't just brute force. Also, your point about being able to visualize Link's growth through Ocarina of Time through his gear is just genius. And while I like Ilia's role in the plot, you bring up a fantastic point: they should have just pulled the trigger and gone full romance. But the plot wants to have it both ways where Midna and Ilia can both be seen as love interests as Link. It's a shame, they really could (and should) have done more here. Thank you for bringing up how bad the enemy music is by the way. I'd say it's the worst combat track in the franchise. I gotta say, I'm really surprised you'd call Hyrule Castle shitty. I don't think the narrative stuff works super well, but it's always been a favorite finale dungeon of mine. The Dark Nut rooms are reasonably difficulty, I love how you can get an extra key to access the hidden treasury, and the path up the castle does a good job at making use most of your tool kit. Though I do see your point about puzzles being reused. At the end of the day, I can't agree that I don't care about the main quest or plot. Twilight Princess' story works for me more often than not, but what I love about your retrospective is how it makes me consider new perspectives rooted in a genuine passion for The Legend of Zelda. I can't think of another UA-cam channels that offers such rich analysis on the series. Sorry this is so long haha your retrospectives are so in-depth and they always get me thinking. Super excited for your Phantom Hourglass video! I would sincerely love to hear your thoughts on my retrospective, as well: goombastomp.com/zelda-twilight-princess-gamecube-retrospective/ Happy Hyliadays!
Also, I can't believe I forgot to bring this up, but framing your retrospective around progression/regression was a really clever way of framing Twilight Princess.
Thank you for your kind words and incredibly good analysis! I enjoy reading perspectives like this and how you bring up thematic elements that I neglected. I will read your Retrospective soon when I have some time. Cheers!
Twilight Princess is a game that tries a dozen different things but doesn't commit to any of them. It's like a restaurant where you can only have taste tests. What's the point? Examples: - Goat Herding - Lantern - Gale Boomerang - Most items for that matter - Wrestling - Exploration (It's a corridor simulator, and it's disconnected as you mentioned.) - Characters (The kids only show up for the beginning and then disappear the rest of the game.) - The resistance (They don't do anything, but we're supposed to think they're cool?) - The occupation of Hyrule - Shopping (There isn't a lot to buy, and there are a ton of shops alluded to that don't offer anything interesting (Ex. Apple shop, Hyrule castle goron shop, the inn at Kakariko)) - Fishing (Little incentive and not enough types of fish) - Canoeing (Why can't we canoe in Ordon or Lake Hylia! Missed opportunity for expanding exploration and fishing.) - Bomblings - WOLF LINK - The Bulblin Faction (Who are they, and where do they come from?) - Caves (Poor Rewards) - Outfits (Not a lot, and they're boring) - The Lost Woods (Little to explore and it doesn't lead to any different areas like in Ocarina of Time) - The World of Twilight (Really small and no overworld section) - Despite all of this, Twilight Princess is my most played Zelda game, and I love it. Bah, I suppose that's nostalgia talking. I want to make a video about it on my channel someday, but we'll just have to wait and see. (Fantastic job with the video! I don't usually watch 1 hour long videos, but this was well worth it.)
I really appreciated that part about not wanting to denounce other people's opinions. There are other youtubers who would never think like that, and it's frustrating listening to them trying to change my opinions. You gave your thoughts in a really mature and inoffensive way while somehow still being hilarious. I have a feeling that's going to be a lot harder next episode...
Ive been doing a binge of twilight princess reviews and retrospectives as i come up on the time of the the year where i often replay the zelda games; new years. I love it, while i disagree with some of your expansions on some some of the design choices its a more fresh take that is dissimilar from all the other retrospectives ive been watching and provides me with a new perspective! U got urself a sub and probably a binge watch of your zelda videos
I started watching you like 6 years ago on my dads old account. I was only 11 years old at the time, and my dad loved Zelda and played it when he was a kid. I was so interested at the time, and looked Zelda up on UA-cam and you were one of the first people I seen with your top 15 Zelda games list. I was shocked there was that many as I only known about the first one cause that’s what my dad told me about. Either way with you I was introduced to my favorite game franchise of all time and I couldn’t be anymore thankful you’ve returned to UA-cam after almost 5 years. Thank you for what you have done for me, and thank you for being an inspiration to get new fans into the Zelda series. Hope this makes your day
hell yeah man. I remember watchin your older rant on this game way back when, and it's super satisfying too see those similar feelings much better articulated, but still wit the snappyness and the humor. you da man
I just binged through your whole Zelda Retrospective series and I am very impressed. You obviously put a ton of work into these. Here's hoping you can get the recognition that you deserve.
You have no idea how much I like your videos. You're the golden standard when it comes to Zelda content. I first stumbled your channel when I was 12 years old back in 2012. Now I'm a grown ass 22 year old still waiting for the day you upload lol. Hope you're taking care my friend.
As someone whose favourite Zelda game is Twilight Princess, this was quite painful to watch and listen to you pointing out every flaw the game has. But I’m a very big advocate of being fair and objective and I wanted to learn about the game more deeply, and see past my bias for it. I completely respect your opinion on the game and I can really see the points you made and I think I can see it in a bit more realistic light. But it still remains my favourite, haha! I love it with all its flaws and I think it’s the same for most of us that we just hold the Games of our childhood the dearest to our hearts. And after all, it’s just video games. Thank you for this review!
Just watched this entire series of retrospectives you made on Zelda games and I loved them. Hope one day you revisit and finish the series. Great videos dude.
I remember watching your original Twilight Princess review when I was like 11, having just played it, and being so disappointed that someone disliked it as it was my favorite game at the time. It’s insane to think how I’m back all these years later watching you talk about the same game again, now much more open minded compared to 11 year old me, making me remember how long ago my introduction to Zelda was.
This video was awesome. It felt like a true documentary with the footage and commentary and comparison to other games. A common theme I’m noticing and experiencing myself is that as a kid this game felt awesome, but on reflection it falls really flat. I was really happy with BoTW and couldn’t put it down because it was so refreshing for the series. As a kid a perfect Zelda formula game was exactly what I wanted, but now that I’m in my 20s I couldn’t imagine going back to that. My brother and I have all sorts of interesting Zelda debates, and something he used to say was that he wasn’t crazy about BoTW because it didn’t feel like a Zelda game, and I argued that that was the exact reason I enjoyed it so much. I think this video helped prove my point a little, so thank you! Love the content man
I think I agree with your brother. Breath of the Wild is a fine game in it’s own right, but it just doesn’t feel like a Zelda game. At all. Change is fine, but the core of the gameplay should still like a Zelda game. Breath of the Wild feels more like a western open world RPG than it does like a Zelda game. When I play a Zelda game, I want a Zelda experience.
That was an awesome retropective! As a person who loves Twilight Princess, I can see where you're coming from when it comes to how this game was handled. I can understand that many people enjoy this game because of the classic Zelda formula and it feels familiar to them but it doesnt really go much deeper than that. I was really happy to see another video from you and I look forward to the next retrospective!
Twilight Princess was my first ever Zelda game, so I love it dearly for introducing me to one of my favourite video game series. However, I can still see the flaws and this video pretty much described them perfectly. You put so much work into your videos, they are an absolute joy to watch. Really looking forward to your thoughts on Phantom Hourglass (personally my least favourite game in the series). "After leaving My Chemical Princess", that joke just about had me in stiches of laughter. 38:25 was another that made me chuckle. 1:14:17 at this point had me crying of laughter.
This year's anniversary really got me into Zelda again. I've been playing every game recently chronologically (timeline wise, not release order), even if I already completed every game in the past (I even went through a phase where I thought Zelda was too limited compared to some RPGs I was playing at the time... I know, apples and oranges, but still, this was before BotW and I was feeling pretty burned out). And somehow this franchise found its way into my heart again, specially the classic ones that I felt too limited in the past. I really grew to appreciate them more than ever nowadays. And because of that, I've been watching a TON of Zelda content on YT since january. I don't want to compare and all that, but after Mark Brown, KingK, Zeltik, Commonwealth and a LOT more channels I've been watching, after binge watching every retrospective you've made, you are the one I like the most. You articulate your points from a passionate and detailed point of view that I relate the most. Even disagreeing hard with you on Minish Cap, I find your videos to be the most entertaining and the ones I like to watch the most. And I really liked when you brought your bud to play Zelda 1 (I'm guilty of watching a lot of people experiencing Zelda for the first time in full as well recently, and I like it a lot), you should do more of that in the future, even as a side show. If you want, obviously. Anyway, congratulations on your awesome series and I'm really looking forward the next ones.
Hey man. I disagree with your stance on Twilight Princess, but I respect your opinion and see where you're coming from. I watched all of your Zelda essays and subscribed to watch the rest.
@@Chyde109 The Toilet Princess is so much dumbed down from the E3 promises which is why there was a lot of hate. I remember the controversy when it happened. You all were in diapers then. Scary how much time has flown.
Twilight Princess is the game that solidified me as a gamer. I was born in 2000, and my parents bought an old NES off eBay when I was like 5 so Zelda 1 & 2 were the first Zelda games I had ever played. Then I went on to play Phantom Hourglass when I was 7 then Twilight Princess when I got my Wii for my 8th birthday. I already liked Zelda, but Twilight Princess was by far the biggest and most complex game I had ever played at the time. Playing through this game over so many months (and years) just blew my little 8 year old mind away with the environments, cinematics, and literally everything. It’s needless to say that Twilight Princess defined my childhood and helped make me into the gamer I am today. Is it perfect? HELL NO. Is it objectively the best Zelda game? Probably not. But playing this game is what made me fall in love with the series and go onto playing Ocarina of Time, Wind Waker, and all the other games throughout my adolescent years. I agree with a lot of your criticisms, and really for as much as I love the game I felt ripped off my the HD remake. I don’t know if you’ve ever played Xenoblade Chronicles (if not I highly recommend it) but that game recently got an HD remake on Switch where it redesigned all the character models to make them more expressive and emotional, something that Twilight Princess needs desperately. Simple things (like the music interrupting Midna’s Desperate Hour) could have been fixed but Nintendo chose not to! Imagine if they would’ve made enemies more aggressive and perhaps redesigned some areas to give items such as the Spinner more use?! That would’ve made all the difference in the world! I could go on and on but you brought up some very important points about the story that I had never considered! For one I had no idea you could just leave Ilia with amnesia!😂 But in all seriousness I hope one day we get a “Twilight Princess Definitive Edition” where many of the fundamental issues of the game are fixed. Too bad Nintendo had to go full George Lucas on Majora’s Mask 3D when it hardly had any flaws to begin with (other than outdated graphics) and didn’t even bother to put any effort into Twilight Princess HD. It’s a shame that one of my favorite games had to get the shaft. Sorry for the essay, Chyde! Great video as always! I can’t wait until your Breath of the Wild video, the game that finally did away with the Zelda formula.
Thank you! I haven't played X Chronicles but I want to. I wouldn't hold out for any more issues to be fixed in future releases of TP... Nintendo fans to a fault will readily buy any familiar product regardless of effort.
@@Chyde109 Man you totally gotta play xenoblade chronicles. That is the game I most regret not playing when it was new. It's everything I would've wanted in a game as a child. Get the definitive version on switch. On black Friday would probably be smartest
@@Chyde109 And if your financial problems are that bad, I will literally buy you a copy of the game and send it to you if you promise me you'll play it. That's how good that game is
@@styler8940 Lol I appreciate that. But money is less an issue than time, energy, and focus. It's very hard for me to pick up a new game, especially a long RPG, and finish it. I'm still working on Fire Emblem Three Houses, and that's been out for a year or two now
Something I've always wished for this game was that if they insisted on Link not having a magic meter, they could have given it to Midna instead while Link was in wolf form. Allowing the player to utilize new magic attacks and spells through Midna's powers could have expanded the combat/puzzle options for the wolf as well as make Midna even more endearing than she already is by letting us play as her somewhat. Human Link in this game is already more brawler-like and complementing that with a technical style for Midna could have potentially been really cool. Of course every enemy in the game would have to be reworked to be more threatening and dynamic to justify any of this. One can only dream I suppose.
Hey chyde, whatever it is that is taking you so long, please know that it's not a big deal and we can wait. The least im asking is to maybe answer to some comments to give sign of life, or even posting in the community page once in a while
As somebody who really loves Twilight Princess’s gameplay and story, I agree with this video a lot. I think that for every 3 things that TP does right, there’s 1 thing that could have been done better. Also, really funny video.
You are probably the most dedicated viewer I have ever seen on a singular channel ever. I see you everywhere in his comment sections and you have 138 comments lol (Not saying its a bad thing btw)
@@El_Surge oh wow 88 comments, well you flew under my radar lol Well ig it's because brighter profile pictures are more eye-catching than the darker ones? Idk, sorry about that
Real ones know we been waiting on the imminent skyward sword review for literally like 15 years. @chyde why’d you take down the link between worlds preview and skyward sword first impressions? And the melee awesome game spotlight?
You are right with all your criticism, I enjoyed TP immensely (except for that damn tutorial) but I do admit that the reason I did was because it felt like OOT 2.
TP is one of my favorite games in the series. Not because I disagree with everything you said but because I think the flaws are outweighed by it's strong points. It has one of the best sets of dungeons for example. I really hope you finish this series one day. No rush though.
Without nostalgia, I do love this game a lot, though do agree with some points here and there. Mainly though, all of the series you've done so far before this. I binged it, I adored it. One day this series will be finished up, and I'd love to see how it turns out
I know you have your issues with this game, but it seems like you had a great time making the video, because this is easily the funniest video I’ve seen from you. Rock on, Chyde
We will never get an answer and you might as well give up, it’s been 3 years and he isn’t responding to any comment beyond when the video was first uploaded
Phantom hourglass is so salty and washed out. Any time I sea the game, I wave goodbye. I will never defend the game. That ship has sailed I would be honored if you'd use some of these puns in your next video Oh and great video by the way. This is definitely your best review so far
Just random thoughts I've had over the years, but really came into fruition after BotW: I wish the spinner had of been a new type of shield. It could still function the same as a transportation item, but there also could have been notches in ceilings, so Link had to hang on as it passed upside down. There could have been panels (like in the city in the sky), but on walls, making it a key of sorts which had to be turned by hand, or with his whole arm. Maybe a handful of optional ancient ruins could all require it to open. In combat, as a shield, it could do a small amount of damage if shoved into an enemy, or maybe there could have been a variation of the Armos enemies which the "Spinner Shield" could be used to wreck the machinery, power them down, or alter their settings and making them fight in a different way.
Glad you're back! I'm still at the beginning of the video, but after your infamous critical review from like a decade ago, I'm really excited to hear what you think of TP now.
I love twilight princess and honestly for me for how nostalgic this game is for me I can look past the flaws you pointed out cause I think the story is interesting, dungeons and bosses are enjoyable I think it’s a really great game but it’s not a oot or mm level great vid man keep up the great work
Hey man, would love to hear your thoughts on Breath of The Wild, even if that means putting off the the other videos BotW is a special game, with so many changes, such an impact on the series and on gaming as a whole Plus it’s interesting to speculate what it’s success means for the franchise moving forward I would love a video on your thoughts about it someday!
I played this game for the first time in 2023 and I thought it was great. I generally disagree with the criticism of this video but to each their own I guess
The day is here, great work Chyde! This is so fantastic to watch and I really enjoy listening to your perspective on all those games. You always include pros and cons and deliver it all with a great sense of humour! These retrospective videos makes me remember all the ups and downs in the Zelda series, but most important it makes me want to go back anyways simply because in the end I love the series and there will be no other franchise that will mean so much to me. Again Chyde, awesome to see more of your content!
Ill always have TP as a special place in my heart given that it was my first 3D zelda game. But once I played more and more of the series and with that retrospective you made years ago it really shifted my perspective on the game. Youre kicking ass during this series and we can all tell your working hard on it. My only request is maybe you can make a discord so we can talk to you more and recieve more updates.
You have put all my issues with this game into words perfectly. Sooooo many people blindly worship this game for it’s dark and realistic tone, but I’ve always found it to be a weak entry in the series compared to many of the other games. It’s still a great game but it has really poor pacing and is just boring at times to explore. I always find myself struggling to get through it on replays of the series
It's a great game with plenty of flaws. To me something feels missing. There are barely any sidequests and the middle feels pretty empty to me, everything before the master sword felt so epic like you're an important hero doing heroic things like saving your friends and all that. But then in the middle all of those events before the dungeons feel small in comparison and now it feels like you're following Midna's journey (even though she is more involved at the beginning and the end). It's until trying to get to the city in the sky do they try to put more big events in front of dungeons but this time it felt too much and at that point you wouldn't even care about Illia because they didn't put time into her in the middle of the game. We don't need big events surrounding her memory loss throughout the whole game but some small things would've helped me actually care. I was probably really terrible at explaining on how I feel about the game but yea that's just some of my thoughts.
Personally, Twilight Princess is my favorite Zelda game. I do agree with your points on the controls and art style, but everything else is stuff that I either don't mind or don't think is that big of an issue. Love the video, and looking forward to Phantom Hourglass
Even the plot holes, rushed story and pacing, don’t get me wrong the dungeons and music make the game worth it, I just fin that those things degrade it a little
I TOTALLY AGREE. I grew up playing this game as a kid, and as such manage to look past some of the stupid moments (kind of like revisiting the Star Wars prequels just to make fun of them, but a little less so because at least TP has a few redeeming qualities in its music/later dungeon design.) But even child me was sitting there, like, 'Why the hell am I still in this easy ass dungeon?' and 'Do none of you care that your world is ending? IS your world even ending?' I eventually collected everything, but not because the game was hard. Just because the game meandered long enough to let me do so. No imminent threat! Nothing keeping me grounded to the story. It was a sad showing, and when I played Ocarina of Time afterwards (I played the series in VERY random order), I found myself WAY more engaged with Link and the world around me, and that feeling was compounded on with Majora's Mask. This game is... fine, but aside from nostalgia there's nothing keeping me here. I shall wait patiently for you to roast Phantom Hourglass! Phenomenal video.
Your content is my favorite on UA-cam. I’ve replayed your old top 16 list just to listen to in the car or whatever probably a dozen times, and this current series is so much deeper and well thought out! Don’t lose motivation, you can do it and the product will last beyond just the month or whatever of main traffic. On the topic of love in Zelda, I consider Marin a strong candidate. The tragedy of her tale adds a romantic element, and I always like to think she found Link later following the 0 deaths scene.
Very harsh, but fair criticism of probably my favorite Zelda game (though i haven't played the first two 3d ones, let alone most of the 2d ones, so take that as you will), hadn't even thought about the plotholes surrounding the mirror of twilight itself. I can see how your main complaint in the lack of series' progression didn't affect my experience as much as it was my first game. Great use of humor throughout too. I'll be interested in whatever other content you'll be putting out!
Finally I love this UA-cam channel keep doing what your doing bro not to mention this zelda is top 3 to me but that’s because of nostalgia really I like the story of tp the characters, music, dungeons, items I like almost everything about this game the only games that beat it to me are major, and oot I love zelda idc what the game is I’ll always love something about it keep up the good work dude
This was an absolutely fantastic retrospective. I was interested to see how your thoughts on this game had changed over the years. You voiced a lot of criticisms I couldn’t quite put my finger on when I played the game. A lot of it was fucking hilarious too. It was well balanced, as well as fair. These sort of videos are why you’re easily my favorite Zelda UA-camr.
Chyde man I’m so happy you’re back! This is just what I needed. 1 hour 23 minutes of fucking blissful nostalgia! (To make things even better there’s a new speedlore by rwhitegoose and also a summoning salt video all on the same day!!) Keep up the good work, can’t wait for the next few parts in the series. Much love from Scotland x
loved the video man, much more in depth than your previous twilight princess one and expands more on its issues rather then just stating what they are. Overall amazing video and I can't wait for the next one.
Recently I learned from a video that a lot of the text in this game is mistranclated. That explains why this game doesn't make any sense. It doesn't explain why Zant ever broke the Mirror of Twilight though.
Sorry for asking but could we get an update on Phantom hourglass video if you started it or not, if not it's all good take your time I'm just wondering, sorry if I'm being rood
I'm really putting myself out there for this, but by any chance is the "2 Phantom 2 Hourglass" in the credits a reference to 2 Lava 2 Lantula? Overall, great retrospective. You managed to improve a lot from your first Twilight Princess video, and were able to be engaging while retreading over similar points from the older video. Twilight Princess has always been a disappointing game in the series for me, and you amazingly managed to explain more plot holes in the story and ways the game failed to make an emotional connection that I hadn't thought of even after all these years since I first played the game. Excellent work, been really enjoying your retrospective series!
@@Chyde109 Oh right, I forgot that there was a Fast and the Furious movie by that similar of title; how very uncultured of me! I'm glad that you haven't heard of that movie, its a horrible but fun B-movie. Keep up the good work, I'm glad that you are back making videos again!
Hey Chyde. Just know that we haven't forgotten about you. I'm sure you just have a lack of motivation for finishing this series, which is totally understandable. But we're still here for you. Always

Really glad you’re sticking with this video series. As someone who’s followed you for years, I can’t wait to hear your thoughts on BOTW
My exact thoughts 👍

Windwaker is great! But I gotta say Twilight Princess is my favorite game of all time! Minda is great and being wolf Link is Great! Love the Vid Bud!!!
There should really be an award for the most underrated zelda channel. I could literally sit here and listen to you talk for hours, OH WAIT

Me too man. Freshman in college here too, waiting for him to continue this series
(I do think auto-lock and auto-block are legitimately good mechanics, though, they just aren't utilized properly due to the easy gameplay.)
The fact you bring up sound design is very warranted and I'm honestly disappointed in myself for not paying more attention to it!
I would sincerely love to hear your thoughts on my retrospective, as well:

Also, I can't believe I forgot to bring this up, but framing your retrospective around progression/regression was a really clever way of framing Twilight Princess.
Thank you for your kind words and incredibly good analysis! I enjoy reading perspectives like this and how you bring up thematic elements that I neglected. I will read your Retrospective soon when I have some time. Cheers!
@@Chyde109 Just wanted to say I hope you've been doing well and I can't wait for the next entry in the best Zelda retrospective on UA-cam!
Twilight Princess is a game that tries a dozen different things but doesn't commit to any of them.
It's like a restaurant where you can only have taste tests. What's the point?
Examples:
- Goat Herding
- Lantern
- Gale Boomerang
- Most items for that matter
- Wrestling
- Exploration (It's a corridor simulator, and it's disconnected as you mentioned.)
- Characters (The kids only show up for the beginning and then disappear the rest of the game.)
- The resistance (They don't do anything, but we're supposed to think they're cool?)
- The occupation of Hyrule
- Shopping (There isn't a lot to buy, and there are a ton of shops alluded to that don't offer anything interesting (Ex. Apple shop, Hyrule castle goron shop, the inn at Kakariko))
- Fishing (Little incentive and not enough types of fish)
- Canoeing (Why can't we canoe in Ordon or Lake Hylia! Missed opportunity for expanding exploration and fishing.)
- Bomblings
- WOLF LINK
- The Bulblin Faction (Who are they, and where do they come from?)
- Caves (Poor Rewards)
- Outfits (Not a lot, and they're boring)
- The Lost Woods (Little to explore and it doesn't lead to any different areas like in Ocarina of Time)
- The World of Twilight (Really small and no overworld section)
-
Despite all of this, Twilight Princess is my most played Zelda game, and I love it.
Bah, I suppose that's nostalgia talking.
I want to make a video about it on my channel someday, but we'll just have to wait and see.

You actually did it. You made it longer than the last time. Well, better for us.
I really miss your content, hope all is well with you my guy.
Love the content man
Thank you!
When I play a Zelda game, I want a Zelda experience.
pretty ironic that he quit right before phantom hourglass lmao
Why these videos don't have more views? I mean, come on, they are pure gold. Eagerly waiting for the next episodes!

Thank you!
I love hour long videos about Zelda. This series deserves that length.
This came out at the perfect time. I’m going to love watching this update from start to finish.

Thank you! I'm glad someone found it funny!
Thank you! I would like to bring Dalton back in the future, but that really was a lucky opportunity I happened upon in 2018.
Hey man. I disagree with your stance on Twilight Princess, but I respect your opinion and see where you're coming from. I watched all of your Zelda essays and subscribed to watch the rest.

Same. I could listen to Chyde talk for hours
i was down bad for Midna and Zelda in this game when I was a kid. I was ready to save the kingdom of Hyrule by any means necessary lmao
What an amazing idea! Spells in wolf form? THAT would have been a satisfying replacement for cut mechanics.
Hey chyde, whatever it is that is taking you so long, please know that it's not a big deal and we can wait. The least im asking is to maybe answer to some comments to give sign of life, or even posting in the community page once in a while

Thanks! I will make one at some point and let you know. I'm honestly just not that social IRL. I like people, but I have no energy to talk usually
Very excited to watch this later.
OMG just in time for Halloween. Love you Chyde.
Personally, Twilight Princess is my favorite Zelda game. I do agree with your points on the controls and art style, but everything else is stuff that I either don't mind or don't think is that big of an issue. Love the video, and looking forward to Phantom Hourglass
Even the plot holes, rushed story and pacing, don’t get me wrong the dungeons and music make the game worth it, I just fin that those things degrade it a little
I've found a really underrated channel. I hope you become more known in the future.
Thanks!
Thank you for the words of encouragement!
Thanks!
TP was my first Zelda game, but as someone who's now played every game in the series I agree with like 99% of this video
Tbh I think the controls are fine, but I overlook anything like that because it’s my favourite Zeldie. Great video
Thank you! For all the support!
YESSS SIRRR
so because of Halloween I probably won't watch till late tonight or tomorrow so I'll give my thoughts then :)
We're still waiting for the continuation of this series my man. Hope you're doing well.
Chyde man I’m so happy you’re back! This is just what I needed. 1 hour 23 minutes of fucking blissful nostalgia!
(To make things even better there’s a new speedlore by rwhitegoose and also a summoning salt video all on the same day!!)
Keep up the good work, can’t wait for the next few parts in the series.
Much love from Scotland x
I loved the Summoning Salt video! God that 31/32 was so anxiety-inducing
Still can’t believe your channel doesn’t get more sub and views, such a travesty. Your content is at least at good at KingK’s but way less praise 😕
loved the video man, much more in depth than your previous twilight princess one and expands more on its issues rather then just stating what they are. Overall amazing video and I can't wait for the next one.
Thanks!
Recently I learned from a video that a lot of the text in this game is mistranclated. That explains why this game doesn't make any sense. It doesn't explain why Zant ever broke the Mirror of Twilight though.
Two years on and with me being late on this...and still waiting for the next one.
Sorry for asking but could we get an update on Phantom hourglass video if you started it or not, if not it's all good take your time I'm just wondering, sorry if I'm being rood
That's the #1 vid I'm waiting on tbh. His rant on it way back was what brought me into this channel lol
@@ShadowMan64572 lol i ised to laugh my ass off at that
Chyde we need the phantom hourglass video bro hope all is well
I'm really putting myself out there for this, but by any chance is the "2 Phantom 2 Hourglass" in the credits a reference to 2 Lava 2 Lantula?
Overall, great retrospective. You managed to improve a lot from your first Twilight Princess video, and were able to be engaging while retreading over similar points from the older video. Twilight Princess has always been a disappointing game in the series for me, and you amazingly managed to explain more plot holes in the story and ways the game failed to make an emotional connection that I hadn't thought of even after all these years since I first played the game. Excellent work, been really enjoying your retrospective series!
Thanks! It's a reference to the Fast and the Furious, I'm unfamiliar with the movie you said
@@Chyde109 Oh right, I forgot that there was a Fast and the Furious movie by that similar of title; how very uncultured of me! I'm glad that you haven't heard of that movie, its a horrible but fun B-movie.
Keep up the good work, I'm glad that you are back making videos again!
With each passing day the phantom hourglass video worries me more and more lol
I'm so happy I found you channel again. You deserve more subs.
A HUGE improvement from your old Twilight Princess video. Nicely done. 👍🏻
Thanks!
Nailed it dude!! Jumped for joy when I saw a new video was posted 😎
