Brilliant video and review! To be able to ride that fast and smoothly and run a unbroken commentary at the same time is amazing. Also superb sound management, nothing worse than trying to listen to a commentary with wind noise drowning it out but you have it perfectly controlled. Congratulations on the production.really great job.

At 43 I’m new to dual sport bikes and riding, I’ve given up riding on the street but still love bikes so I got a Screamin deal on a 21’ Husqvarna ef350s with 250mi and thousands on mods from the previous owner who was 67. I was looking at getting a Honda 300L but I got the Husky for $7500 which is an absolute STEAL! I can’t wait for the temps in Arizona to go down a bit and start riding a lot, I’m excited to get out there and I really want to some 3-4 day adventure camping trips with the fellas.

Great vid. I have a 2019 FE 501. Had it lowered and changed the sprockets to get the gearing down a bit in the bush. Got the Seatconcepts seat too that stock one is BRUTAL. I guess I will have to keep up on checking for loose bolts but agree with the vibration. Numbed my hands a few times. I am 65 and bought racks/bags/rotopax and a new light setup and need to install that and then I am good for the forestry roads and exploring. Looking forward to this spring. Thanks again, think I got the right bike now and I have my GOLDWING for the long hauls 😁

Great video! I owned a 2018 501 and currently have a 23 KTM 500. So far I really can’t tell much difference. The new bike with the O2 sensor seems to run a lot better than the 18 did stock, however it still needs more fuel to run correctly. So both need help with a tuner of some sort. A longer stroke engine will have a higher piston speed, hence the lower red line and tractor 🚜 power.

I have the 450rl and so far I am very happy with it 700 miles into this bike and no real HUGE complaints plenty of little annoyances. The slow technical single track can be annoying be cause you have to stay on the throttle a bit more than normal and just modulate with the clutch and not having hydro clutch its a bit stiff but not unusable. stock seat sucks as do almost every dual sport. ergonomics are a little different had to adjust or in some case just get used to the different positions of things like the brake and shift pedals. vibrates ALOT less than the 501 and is definitely more comfortable running 65mph than most dedicated dual sports are. I may go the 501 route one of these days but where I am at in a small island town this RL seems to be the best option for me.

Getting my new 2023 FE 501s in a couple weeks. Stoked. Had a WR250R and really enjoyed it. But the weight... I ride alone mostly, and a couple times lifting that thing up a switch back was rough (or dragging it under a fallen tree). Plus, better suspension, more power, hydraulic clutch. Sounds like a recipe for lots of fun. Can't wait to get going. I'll be doing a lot less modding than you, but I will definitely keep an eye out for loose bolts.
Also heard about the Norden 901 recently, and I think that might be my adventure bike for longer rides.

Good information on the bike ,
I've been riding dirt bikes since 1970 , dad bought me a nice brand new Honda trail 50cc (LOL) , Then a Honda 1972 SL-70CC , 1973 a Honda XR-75 (a little more power) , then a HONDA TL-125cc TRIAL BIKE , the first 3 gears were walking speed , real wide distance between handle grips for balance naturally , ok now its 1983 & I'm 18 years old & my riding friend buys a Suzuki PE 175 , 2 Stroke enduro & to me it was a lightning bolt but that opinion didn't last long , I told my dad I NEEDED POWER & LOTS OF IT !! I tried to get him to buy me my first 2 stroke made by CAN-AM , I wanted the new 560 SONIC 2 STROKE but he knew I would have probably been in a full body cast the first day but at least he took me to the CAM-AM dealership but they didn't have the 560 yet damn it !!! So we went back home and the next week I came home from school & there sit me a brand new 1981 (that never sold , never left the Suzuki dealership, it was a MONSTER ENDURO PE-400 2 STROKE !!!! IVE STILL GOT THE BIKE NOW , STILL RUNS , JUST NEED TO CLEAN THE CARB. & CHANGE PLUG..
ANYWAY my question to you is > I went to the Husqvarna dealership here & there's a FE 501 with only 21 hours riding time on it , it's on consignment for $5000 & the dealership said it's been setting up without being cranked since 2014 because the man died , unrelated to bike , they said it was gummed up but they took it apart & cleaned everything & it's good to they said , I haven't ridden it yet , I offered them $3000 & got laughed at , I then said ""ok $4000"" , he got on the phone & acted like he left a message with the owners parents but after 4 days he said they still haven't returned his call about my offer , I starting to doubt that he left a message because I think they would call back by now.. He said the bluebook value is $6800 , do you think he's telling me the true bluebook on it?? And do you think I should buy it for $5000 ?? I think they are trying to get more money since it's on consignment , it's a used dealership only _ this is the best looking one in there & one of the newer models he has on the showroom floor (lol) what are you thoughts ?? Please let me know if I should off the full $5000 for this FE 501 2014 MODWL with 21 hours on it .

I have 18 501 with 3000 miles and 113 hours. Only issue I had was the clutch slave cylinder failed at 1500 miles and the stock license plate holder broke off from vibration. I politely a recluse slave cylinder on and swapped out the license plate and taillight assembly to the off-road version. I also changed out the bulky rear turn signals to a flush mount design. I uncorked it and put an exhaust and tuner on it before I road it. The bike is awesome and is very capable at whatever I throw at it.

First off excellent riding in the wood 👊 I am rocking a 2019 KTM 500 exc SD and so far it has been amazing 27,000 miles and 680 hours with valves still in specs. However i am noticing that i am burning oil now a bit. Could rebuild but probably will buy next gen 2023 exc in August 2022. I could not agree more. It is my 3rd one and it is by far my favorite bike for trails, moto, hooligan wheelies...etc. But it has to be noted that this bike is for dirt rider mainly because connecting roads to the trails suck mainly because of vibration. So yeah if you are a 50/50 guy then go 690 but if you are only happy in the dirt like me and clearly you then yes it is the bike by far. BTW I change air filter as soon as i can (every ride or 2 rides) and oil every 20 hours max.

I have a 2017 501 and I agree on the vibration. Horrible. The thing would walk itself backwards across the garage idling on the sidestand. My tx300 2 stroke is much smoother! At about 30hrs I had enough and sent it to Thumper Racing for a rebalance and to swap out that wonky 5th gear for the SXF one.
They worked some magic and it is much improved now. I don’t notice the vibes at all on the trail, just on road sections, and it has a narrow rpm range - correlates to about 55mph with my gearing, that is vibration free. Wasn’t cheap but I’m keeping this bike for a long time so totally worth it.

Really enjoyed watching the video(subbed) and appreciate the insight. I apologize for the lengthy comments but I could use some first hand perspective. I bought a Tiger 900 RP last year as my riding friends all moved into the "adventure" scene. With very little off road experience I immediately knew this wasn't the bike for where I want to ride. I bought a 300 Rally a few months ago and I've been out in the forests (Central Florida) once or twice a week since. This bike at 330 pounds was much better than the Triumph on trails and frankly it's just about as good on the pavement in between. The Tiger is now about to make an exit and I'm going to replace it with something much further on the dirt end of the spectrum and keep the Rally for light "adventure" riding. My choice is between CRF 450 RL or the 501. I really don't want to have to replace bars, exhaust ECU and all that which the Honda literally requires. The 501 seems like a better fit and at my level it could remain completely stock aside from calling seat concepts. Thoughts ??

Thanks for watching! So my buddy has the 2019 450L and I have the 2019 Fe501. The 450L is a great bike. However, it's chocked down so much, as you mentioned the exhaust is like 13 lbs. His was having a real serious flame out issue to the point where it would stall multiple times in only a few tight turns. This ended up getting better with more miles on the bike, but it's still not gone. The 501 is much more ready out of the box In my opinion. The air filter is much easier to service on the Husky. I absolutely love mine minus the vibrations, the Honda is smoother. The Honda feels light, but my husky feels lighter. Both are excellent machines but I'm just not much of a fan as I used to be of the Japanese bikes. They are great, but man the Husky was engineered with maintenance ease in mind. Hopefully this helps! This will be the last bike you'll need

Triumph is building a dual sport/dirt bike with Ricky C. Will eventually have a race team. I only say this as you are a Triumph owner. I’m looking at FE501s as well, but have a slush fund I’m building for a future Triumph Dual Sport. They started it all anyway, back when Steve McQueen aka Harvey Mushman was riding and racing

That was such a nice review, really clear and to the point, good voice quality, chill riding. Nice!
I'm planning to get my first ever 4 stroke next spring, and it's gonna be either the 501 or the 500, not sure yet and I haven't yet tried both of them back to back.
The one thing for me which makes it so difficult to decide is the linkage. I know how it feels and lots of people say it's a bit nicer and more sensitive than the pds, but it concerns me a bit exactly because of it being so exposed to logs etc. Also more moving parts = more possible points of failure and I'm planning to do a multi month trip through Europe and the Stans at one point with it.
Well I'll see, can't go wrong with either one I guess :)

So glad you enjoyed it! Did you make linkage guards to help protect the linkage on the 501, but the 500 definitely has better ground clearance. Unless you’re doing Sirius off routing I’m sure the 50 one would be fine. I have gone over some pretty gnarly stuff with it and had no issues. Thanks for watching

there are a few component differences (why I chose the 501 FE501s over the 500 EXC-F - Like the shocks, yes, but also Maguro breaks, and DID rims, though the stock tires on Husky are... good for 80% road use really... Kept them for the times I spend riding it more on the road, but I have a second set of rims with michelin AC10 (or Kenda trailmaster, depending what I find available) and those are great for what I do with the bike. though I ocassional put full dirt tires, or thow in a set of 17" rims with Anakee 3 tires for supermoto stuff, which is fun!

Great review and riding. I bought a 2020 500 EXC for a light ADV bike, and eventually got rid of it because of vibration (still have a 250 XCW)... you noticed it too.
I have a theory, and since you are a good rider and do your own mechanic-ing, I figured you might have some insight. The FE450/450EXC is a bike that usually exists in Europe, and they sell it in the USA every few years. The 450 XCF-W is the closest thing in the USA at the moment. It is, as far as I know, the exact same engine as the 500 save the shorter stroke. If you look in the parts breakdown, all the counter-balancer bits are the same on both bikes...
I wonder if the FE450 vibrates like the FE501? I suspect that the engine is balanced for the 450 setup, not the 501 (and same for the KTM). I had an '08 450 EXC-R, and I don't remember it shaking like my 2020 500. Thoughts?
My point being... I might get a 450 EXC / FE 450 the next time they sell the 50-state-legal version again.

    • @DualsportDisport
      @DualsportDisport  7 місяців тому +1

I believe you are 100% correct. If I remember right there isn’t a separate part number for the balancer which means it probably is balanced as a 450 not a 501 crank with the 8mm longer stroke. Thanks for watching. 450 probably has less vibration

Sold my 2017 500 excf for a 350 because of the vibration.. 350 has negligible vibration compared to the 500s. It's not as great on open road, but it's much better for woods riding/racing.

    • @DualsportDisport
      @DualsportDisport  3 роки тому +1

The 350 seems like a great bike! The reason I went with a 501 was the service intervals.. from 250f days I just hated having to rebuild the motor all the time. • @DualsportDisport

I do not believe the 350 vibrates as much although I've never ridden one.. The 501 vibrates so much because it's a big bore and a big stroke with lower revs. The 350 being the smaller engine was higher revs I bet you is much smoother. Thanks for watching bro

Wow...that was a really good review...well done. You are a fantastic rider! I'll be getting back into riding after 18 years out. I'm a former A rider. I've been looking at all of the 2 stroke fuel injected bikes as well as the better 4 strokes like yours. I tend to ride a gear high and flow thru turns and obstacles. Have been leaning toward the te 250/300 but your video and another video with the fe 450 have got me thinking that a big bore stroker is a pretty darn good fit. What ever I get I plan on keeping for a long time. I'm 6 feet 205 muscley pounds. I'm 58 and still do the gym and much to.my suprise, I typically out do the younger guys. I will do the full enduro mix when riding and the 501 does great on the fire roads and you.made it look like a gem on that small single track section. Is the bike that clickable on single track or does it wear you down. With the weight so close to the two strokes it seems like it's not an issue...how would you rate its flick ability? I've hread some suggest that the 501 is hard to stop on sever and prolonged down hills...would you say that's true? Thanks, Steve from Ohio.

@@DualsportDisport not sure compared to the 501 but vibrates lot more than my crf 250 honda rally. Don't notice it in the dirt but at 50 mph on asphalt you feel it.

Thanks for the great review and riding video! Really like that 501.. I'm currently riding a KTM690 enduro R with a few mods.. its a fantastic do it all bike but a little on the heavy side for single track ... so been considering switching down to a lighter 501.. But don't know if I want to give up the smoothness, ease of maintenance or incredible street performance ... any thoughts or experience on the 690 to compare both of these bikes?

Thanks for watching! I wish I could comment on the 690 however I've never ridden one. I do know this, a 690 for me you couldn't take on a motocross track. A 501 you can literally do anything with. I know it's a super light big bore and I'm loving riding with big bore machine after being on 250f and 450 motocross bikes

I also have a 2017 690 Enduro R...I’ve taken it on the Barstow to Vegas ride 3 times and it’s just to heavy for hard desert riding.
Supermoto and one the street the bike is great
I’m considering getting a KTM 500 XCF or Husky 501

Considering buying a new 2022 Husqvarna FE 501 S. Just came across a 2014 Husaberg 501 though that has low hours, is very well maintained and has a long list of goodies added on. I've heard that vintage of bike has fewer emissions which is better. However, I'm sure there's been some significant improvements made over the past 8 years as well. So I'm having a bit of a struggle deciding, especially when there's about a $5-6,000 price difference between a new one. Thanks in advance for any thoughts on this.

I'm sure there are differences between the bikes but honestly if you're not an a-level rider I don't know if you'll notice them. I've never been on a husaberg so I can't tell from that one specifically, but most riders can't tell the difference/ it doesn't affect them as much. It's more so the rider not the bike. Thanks for watching

Sorry for the late reply. I appreciate the info and advice! I ended up buying the Husaberg.
