For me the Hinchcliffe era with Tom Baker at the helm is the definitive Doctor Who and the blueprint of how to make it successful. Witty but not silly, eccentric but not ridiculous, frightening but not terrifying. Great storytelling and wonderful, charismatic actors. Not preachy or full of agenda but with any messaging delicately woven into the narrative.
I enjoy Series 12 overall. There will NEVER be another actor playing The Doctor like Tom. He was unique, made the character is own and very very hard to follow.
I started watching Tom Baker, who kept me watching all these years, and even got me to watch the previous actors. I'm not sure that most of the other actors could have kept me watching through some of the years. So I have to thank Tom Baker for making me a life-long DW fan.
He is hands down my favorite doctor. There was an impish charm to him. The manic performance he did, going from childish glee, complete absurdity to dead pan seriousness. It was a full range. Now as someone who as a kid came into Dr Who with no knowledge of the previous incarnations even at that age I attributed to his eccentric behavior as a result of his age and having seen things most never have and could never comprehend resulted in driving him a little mad. That or he just operated on a different level than normal people.
Tom is a Legend. Thrilled that he finally gave in to Big Finish. :) He was a holdout for quite a while, but then he did a couple audio things for the BBC, then they GOT him, and I couldn't be happier.
Started in '83, when I switched on the local PBS station expecting to watch the Goodies I was familiar with when living in another State. Tom's my favorite of the Doctors.
Watching series 12 of DW is as close to Heaven as one can get. Both 13 nd 14 were awesome too. Thank you Tom, Hinchcliffe and Holmes. You will never be outdown. Kudos to for Sladen and Marter. Talk about everyhting coming together.
Tom Bakers last season was the first season I remember watching as a child. Hes up there with the best but it's hard to name the best for me. None of the new doctors are in my top 4
Top 10 doctor who 4th Doctor episodes to watch to celebrate the best classic doctor for 50 years. Still from 1974 to 81 10 The stones of blood 9 pyramids of Mars 8 shada 7 the seeds of doom 6 the deadly assassin 5 the ark in space 4 the robots of death 3 city of death 2 terror of the Zygons 1 Genesis of the Daleks
Well...comparing Revenge of the Cybermen to Genesis of the Daleks is like comparing another singer to Freddy Mercury. If it hadn't appeared right after, it would have been a fairly solid, but predictable story. But Genesis as you said, is one of the best Doctor Who stories of all time, and for good reason. And Tom Bake is my favorite Doctor, always. I loved the video, thank you so much!
Another excellent WOW video 👍 You make a good point about Tom, he does elevate the lesser stories and by the end of the season the chemistry with Lis Sladen is there for all to see
If Big Finish opts to bring back the Classic audio drama the Shadow, always felt Tom would be great be Lamont Cranston. And to hear his iconic voice state the equally classic line: Who knows What evil Lurks in the Heart's of men. Tne Shadow Knows.
I cannot decipher one thing as to why Tom Baker made the best Doctor. As soon as I saw him in the role it seemed he was the epitome of who the Doctor was. No other actor who followed has done the same. He and Sarah Jane were the perfect match. Genesis of the Daleks is possibly the best Dr Who story.
I have long said that Tom Baker was not so much the best actor to play the role of the Doctor - he, Tom Baker, simply WAS the Doctor. (I also say that Patrick and Peter2 were the best actors to act in the role...) Tom was handed a pretty bright burning flame when he took over the role thanks to his predecessors. Sadly the BBC were content to snuff it out during the 80's.
I must confess to preferring Wurzel Gummage as Dr Who.Tom Baker injected too much comedy into it in my view and this comedy was almost to prove the death knell of Dr Who years later under Sylvester McCoy.

Most assuredly the greatest of "The Doctors"...No question!

The Fourth Doctor is my Doctor. I started Doctor Who in 1977 with Tom Baker and Elizabeth Sladen and they will always be my favorite TARDIS TEAM.
Genesis of the Daleks remains the high benchmark against which all other Doctor Who episodes are measured and is still the greatest episode.
BBC gave a lady a big box of yarn and said "Here, make a long scarf out of this"
She did

Tom Baker: "Simply The Best!"
The right person at the right place at the right time. He was an inspiration to me.
Tom is the Doctor and the Doctor is Tom.

Great overview on the best doctor ever
My childhood Dr. The one that made me think about the mysteries of time & space. The mad genius is embodied in the 4th Dr. Who.

My father only saw Dr Who when he caught me watching, but he did say that other actors played the doctor, Tom Baker was the doctor.

Sadly alot even whole seasons dont even stream is any of the apps they have Classic Doctor Who channels and he is my fave next to the 10th
This is The Doctor.

the story might be subpar, but Tom Baker never was.
Those 3 question marks need to be removed.
Is this AI?
Nothing in this video is AI.
