- Here is the second studio video by Lasse Hoile of Steven Wilson and band working at AIR Studios in September.
PRE-ORDER THE ALBUM: smarturl.it/Han...
smarturl.it/SW_...
In this part, Steven discusses his next solo album's concept and themes, revealing more details about the record and it's inspiration.
Routine is simply the best. The vocals of Ninet are just unreal
The thing I love about Steven Wilson is his willingness to try new things. Because he is a risk-taker, he might alienate his core fan base and you can almost hear that concern when he says "I wonder what people will make of it", but it's what keeps me coming back. The piece at 5:47 is a one minute reminder of what we have to look forward to.
4:02...The best part....Watching Govan work out one of the best guitar solos in Rock history.
OMG! That chorus on 6:22 is so good.
Can't wait for this album, there simply is no one else out there that is doing anything this beautiful, deep and musical. SW is in a league of his own... reading some of the comments here it is obvious to me that not everyone gets it, but then again, he has no interest in appeasing the masses. For the UA-cam critics, go in a studio and try and compose music like this, you will quickly find out how tremendous a talent he really is!
Agreed!
Yes, he is extremely great at putting you to sleep. 😴😴😴😴
Holy shit. The boy choir stuff sounds incredible. My excitement just doubled.
It's so powerful, I can't wait for the album
I bet thats not the only thing that doubled you sick fuck
MagicalSkyWizard Only took 2 commenters to make it creepy! A newwwww record!
Kyle Grounds I agree though, it sounds pretty sick.
'it's about a woman who disappears one day and no-one notices'
such a typical SW concept!
can't wait for this though.
Always exciting to hear Guthrie doing anything, looking forward to this
I'm always excited for Steven Wilson to release something new. That recording console is beautiful.
5:25 i would never have imagined that were just a boy singing this part. Amazing
i know!!!! shocking isn't it
I don't know, it was pretty obvious for me it was a boy
Influences from Rush, Yes, and Kate Bush in here, mastering it all through to this unique music sound of his -- that is exactly what makes the Wilson music enterprise special. He just cannot stop being different.
Marco Minneman...what a fucking master!
he comes up with such drumm patterns he never ends up surprising!
I watched the documentary that SW spoke of earlier this year. It was sad and fascinating.
Glad he mentioned Kate's The Dreaming.Fantastic album as well...
Agree. Nice to have two of my favorite artists merged. Looking forward to this release and hopefully tour.
what an album! If I had to pick a favourite of Kate's though it would probably be The Sensual World
*****
The Hounds Of Love is my pick. I remember the first time I heard it. A local radio played it in full late one night just after it's release. I was recovering from the bad head cold, dosed up on aspirin and slightly feverish. I lay on the loungeroom floor with my headphones on and it blew my mind.
The song right at the beginning sounds absolutely gorgeous.
wow Steven! thanks you so much for your music
Fascinating music, i can already tell i'll be shuffling the album for months!
ronald boreland Yeah, i actually meant "putting it on replay on my sound system", my bad :D
Great sound, musically interesting Steven you always so clever and brilliant I can't wait to listen this album
Simply can't wait for this album. The ability of Steven Wilson is unprecedented, he automatically gets my attention any time he has a release.
Can't wait for this album to release. Seems ace!
I love this kind of behind-the-scenes story.
I can't wait, February 2015 please cooooome
Sounds bloody amazing! Can't wait to pick this up!
Can't wait for this one.
Steven, you make me live music with your band you play with I feel with every player your with. Sad note in NYC, people are buried in potters yard! Long story short! Many die with no family! Your song gave them voice!
Come on Steve.... Bring us that album now!!!!!
Can't.Wait.
Can't wait.
To me one thing is for certain about the new album. Steven is doing what he does best: startling fans by making an album that's completely different from the last one. Looking forward to it.
Holy shit, I am so pumped for this album! It's too bad that it comes out in February.
Absolutely awesome! This piano player is brilliant! The band is fantastic! Loved it!
Love the concept. I'm so excited for this!
Can't wait!
Very beautiful! Thanks Steven! :)
What a brilliant concept, Dreams Of A Life is a superb haunting film. Cant wait to hear more.
i will love this album and i will manage to marry this album. it sounds perfect!!!
Ow yeah , it's that kind of music that you just have to listen with headphones and volume on MAX, isolate you from everything and just layback and enjoy… Really looking forward to the release! And what a powerful female voice! WOW Beauuuuuuuuutiful! :D
The ending sent chills down my spine. I also think the use of boy choristers is neat touch, and sounds beautiful. VERY MUCH looking forward to this :)
Oh man, can´t wait for it!!!
I can't wait
I just watched that documentary, and while quite sad, it was even more sad a social commentary. I'm not condemning anyone for not checking on their friend ... but it's more of an indictment of the human condition. It's a concept album, and I think this will be another amazingly told story -- can't wait, Steven!
What's the name of documentary?
Everything look so "fucking good" quoting Steven's words :), from marco's playing, all the piano stuff, the harmonies in the music, and of course the awesome Guthrie Govan. I think this album will definitely blow our heads out
beauty beyond imagination
Very very nice, fenomenal recording sessions going on here.
I'm pretty excited for this one!
Fantastic.
Amazing artist and musicians
this is gonna be a master piece
Amazing!!!
His hair looks better than ever. Therefore the album will be great
Sounds amazing, can't wait for this!
And concerning Wilson's lyrics and sound, when I first heard Porcupine Tree, a few Wilson songs did put me off in a way... I sort of got a "nerdy, Euro-prog" feel from some of the tracks and it did put me off. However, to really "get" Wilson, you have to find a track that really hits you, and then the rest of his music begins to really grow and make sense. For me, his masterpieces have been songs like Lazarus, Linton Samuel Dawson, Trains, Signifcant Other, Only Child, Collapse The Light, Fear Of A Blank Planet, ect ect. The rest of his work really grows once you find those certain tracks that plain hit you.
Linton Samuel Dawson is magical
LSD? Really. Well to each their own. But otherwise I totally agree with your statement.
Liam Callaway You do not like Linton Samuel Dawson?
Cash Vile Nerdy Euro-prog though? What's that?
This is gonna be so effing good.
I AM REALLY HYPED FOR THIS! I don't normally type in all caps... but seriously, this is going to be awesome!
Steven Wilson, Guthrie Govan, and Marco Minnemann all on one record? When does this come out?!
Oh, probably should have just waited till the end of the video... I feel silly now.
The Raven That Refused to Sing, check that album
Have to do some research before posting silly questions :v
DragonFlopp They already have an album together, The Raven that Refused to Sing. You'll probably love it.
DragonFlopp It came out last year!
Me sorprende con cada canción, el sentimiento de explosión en la canción es impresionante!
The giants are back, it's going to be a colossus of a record.
her voice is completely other-worldly.
Goooooooooooooooood I want it NOOOW. You are awesome mr Wilson
cannot fu**ing wait.
I'm here for Guthrie what a phenomenal guitarist
Awesome.
Ooh, sounds good!
this sounds like it's gonna be epic
Awesome
sounding good boys...
love the No Man t-shirt!
Holy fuck this is amazing!
SWeeeeeet!!!
Routine is gonna be a friggin amazing song I can tell already
This is going to be huge :O
Aaaaaaaarg. cant wait cant wait cant wait! must hear must hear must hear! sounds like another great album by Mr. Dark and Brooding himself. yaaaaay! :)
This is goinf to be Fuckin' A,man.
The song at the ending reminds me of Eclipse by Pink Floyd at times.
Anyway, very good sound and an interesting story overall! :)
Ninet Tayeb? The Israeli singer?
yes !!!
Yes !! Ninet tayeb ♡
MAR-BE-LLO-US, as usual...
where is Nick Beggs?
As always Steven Wilson has outdone himself. That said, the statement is somewhat inaccurate since each of his albums so far has had a distinct theme / concept / style. So it wouldn't be fair to compare previous works to the upcoming album.
Either way, looking forward to the new album! It's going to be amazing!!
4:04 what people will make of it is that it’s a fucking great album. That’s what people will make of it, Steven.
Freaking awesome, when does it come out??
February 2015. Says so at the end of the video.
CaptainBungonia Haha my bad, I guess I was way too focused on the music : D
I'm really liking the samples of this new album. For me, The Raven was good, but I felt that the album was indeed very short, and fell flat as a whole at times (Drive Home and Pin Drip, sonically, just seemed jarring on the album, and felt more like Incident tracks). I even thought the production was a little stale for Wilson's standard. But the samples here really do sound a lot more like the fullness and warmth that I got from most any Porcupine Tree record, and I'm really liking the array of genres here. A lot of parts sound really southern-rock influenced, and then there's poppy stuff and creepy stuff... this whole record is starting to really make me think of Deadwing!
Steven is wearing shoes.
Whoa.
0:46 - 0:53
Best seconds ever.
The incredible Guthrie's solo 4:06 is disappeared. :( little bit sad
Fantastic ... Can fuck waiting to listening!
Your English is amazing!
***** I think very much he is of the happiness.
Steve is a complete genius
Awww yisss! :)
New stuff sounds to me that it's closer to Porcupine Tree than his other solo records. I wonder if he's ditched the jazzier side of things on this new album.
Will we have one full track soon ? :D
guthrie with a bass... live s perfect.
what kind of pedal is that he is controling while Guthrie is playing?
Is February tomorrow?
Hopefully it will be better than The Raven That Refused to Sing. I'm apparently in a tiny minority, but I didn't care for that album at all, Luminol and the title track are great, the rest does nothing for me. I thought Grace for Drowning was leagues better. I'm excited for this though
***** yes. it explains your lack of musicality.
DoumdaDoum Don't be a snob, Insurgents is a great album. Even though I personally prefer his proggier pursuits, there's a large amount of SW fans that favor Insurgents because it is indeed a diverse, well constructed album. Stop adding to the turmoil of the UA-cam community.
***** I agree, Insurgentes, for me personally, is his best solo record thus far. It is original, contemporary, experimental (adding noise/drone elements), dark and simply showcases 'good songwriting' . The last two records released, in my opinion, are to a large extent OK 'retro' inducing records. They exemplify Steven Wilson saying 'i am making prog rock!'
DoumdaDoum
lol wanker
The Pin Drop was the only (relatively) weak track on the album. Still featured Govan being outclassed by a saxophone!
Yaaaay Mellotron!
Guthrie Govan? Dude, I'm in.
Steven's playing bass again! Get Geddy and Alex in on it!
I would say john myung
This is like Christmas...
Is it being produced by Alan Parsons again? I really hope so.
no
