  • Written by Berry Gordy and Tyran Carlo (Roquel "Billy" Davis), from a title of a Louis Jordan movie with an all-black cast called Reet, Petite, and Gone, this was the first chart single for Jackie Wilson, a native of Detroit, who had been in the group The Dominoes, now as his first solo release. The royalties from this song (and two hits by Marv Johnson) enabled Gordy to borrow the money needed to start up Motown Records. It also taught him much about the business of music, as he learned the value of royalties and how they can be manipulated.
In British slang, "Reet" means "Righteous." A 1957 recording for the Brunswick label, it became the UK Christmas number one in 1986, almost three years after Wilson's death, holding the record for taking the longest time to reach #1 in the UK.
Here, it is choreographed from BBC broadcasts of dance perfomance of the song by Faye Tozer & Giovanni Pernice in 2018, and also Denise Van Outen and James Jordan in 2012.

Jackie Wilson was an astonishing talent with a range that somehow combined operatic tones with rock, rhythm and blues. Keep ‘em coming doc. Brilliant.
