In order to power stance (dual-wield the same weapons w/ a new move set and increased damage), your stats have to be 1.5x above the stats required to use the weapon. So if you wanna power stance weapons with 10 STR and 10 Dex, you need 15 STR and 15 Dex in order to power stance.

They also don't need to be the same weapon! Every weapon type has a list of other weapon types that it can power stance with.
Which, as far as I know, is not in the game at all. So either experiment or look it up lol

    A few tips:
That health regen ring doesn't break if it's removed. I believe it just means it's durability is low meaning it will break fast while enemies hit you.
If a door is locked try hitting it sometimes it will break or someone will open the door from behind it.
The only way to start over is after beating the game the ladies in things betwixt only mean respec when they say start your journey over.
Equip your Estes in the first slot so you use that before life gems this will save you a lot of money.
105 agility is the sweet spot that's a nice bracket to aim for.
If you spend 16000 souls at the merchant in gold robes in Majula his shop will expand to start selling boss armors too.
Make sure to every now and then talk with the old hag merchant eventually she'll give you a ring.
In this game you can enter covenants freely unlike ds1 when if you left the npcs would be upset with you.(feel free to join them all if you want free shit)
Also explore the area after you killed the pursuer, there might be a nice pickup around there 😀
Been loving your content keep it up brother 🙏

25:56 that moment actually highlights my favorite thing about DS2's "only regenerating" healing system: even if you have to tank a hit while drinking estus or popping a gem, if you survive the hit it'll still keep healing ya! Heck, it might end up giving even MORE health back than if ya didn't get hit LOL It generally feels nicer than getting a bunch of health back, then losing a chunk of it immediately; it feels like you "wasted a heal", even if that heal TECHNICALLY saved your life LOL

    • @monkeyboy275bobo8
      @monkeyboy275bobo8 Рік тому +4

Well the thing is it does not just feel like a waste, it actually is completely wasted most of the time. While your estus might save you from the following hit it usually is also the reason why you take that hit in the first place.

Note about invasions and summons - if the name sounds like a character name, ie capitalized and a description followed by a name (ex: Armorer Dennis), then it's an NPC. If their name looks more like a gamer tag, ie all lowercase with numbers etc, it's a player. Seems like you thought that invasion was a player, but that was a scripted in-game NPC invasion, DS2 has MANY! Enjoy
edit: Also invasions can happen when you're human OR hollow in DS2, but less likely the more hollow you are. You can only summon if you're human.

There is also a small change that has pretty big consequence if you don't notice it:
If you rolled in Dark Souls and then hit R1 midroll, it would attack in the direction your camera was pointing, regardless of which way you rolled
If you roll in Dark Souls II and then hit R1 midroll, your character will attack in the direction you're rolling, regardless of which way the camera is pointing
    It's a small change but it can lead to frustration if you're counting on it to work like Dark Souls ^^;

The Pursuer is a pretty good fight, if you position him right you can use that ballista in the arena to shoot him which does MASSIVE damage to him. One important tip is that when going through a fog wall in this game is that you don't get I-frames when entering it, so if enemies catch up to you and start attacking they can kill you as you're going through one so beware of that throughout your playthrough.

Not sure if someone else mentioned this, so some tips and no spoilers:
    1. Pharos' Lockstone is used for quite a number of mechanisms, not just secrets. They are a limited resource and in some cases are used to operate stuff like bridges, so you'd better not squander them. Player messages in front of them can be helpful, but in the end, it's up to you and how much you want to gamble on them being useful.
    2. You have already found an item, which can be used on the petrified people. Read the item descriptions to find out which. Also, if I'm counting right, you have found three different statues blocking your way. Its up to you on which one to use the item, though one of them is the obvious choice. Not going to spoil, so I'm not telling more.
Haven't played the game myself, but from what I was it's definitely the prettiest of Dark Souls. Even the areas you're going to curse are cool in their own way. Though I'm not going to deny, that it's also the one that wants to kick your butt the hardest.

33:32 "that felt like a dance"
YOU GET IT BRO. Dark Souls 2 is my favorite game in the series because I think its combat is really well designed and balanced. It requires more careful timing and it is harder to do certain things, but when you figure out how the game works and understand the timing of enemy attacks and when it's safe to drink Estus, there's an incredibly satisfying feel to all of it. The Pursuer is probably one of the best examples of this, everything about how its attacks are timed works to help new players feel like they're learning.
I also just like the general positivity. You're not the most skilled or observant player but you're having fun, that's good to see.

The TL:DR on ADP is that raising it raises your Agility (AGL). AGL determines how many I-frames you have on your roll. You want to have either 100 AGL or 105 AGL, 100 is about the same as a roll in DS1, 105 is around fast roll in DS1. AGL does NOTHING for your I-frames until you hit specific amounts, so being at 101, 102, 103, or 104 won't change them at all.

Good times !
Quick tip ! I think you should save your lifegems for when you're out of flasks, since flask respawn when lifegems don't. More as a backup so to speak. You'll end up collecting much more of them and will rarely run out of healing this way !

Also, if you ever run out of effigies, there is a way to get a lot of them by killing the old witches at the beggining of the game. I know it's mean but sometimes we must do horrible things to survive!

Another awesome video. You got to meet the best Souls NPC, Lucatiel! Here's some more tips others aren't telling you:
    1. The kick has been replaced with a guard break. If you use it against an enemy guarding with a shield, it opens them up to a riposte (this carried over to DS3, when you get around to that game). The trick to pulling off a guard break (or a kick) is to press the joystick like you're doing a smash attack in Smash Bros. Same deal for doing jumping R2 attacks.
    2. If you need to light your torch, press triangle next to a lit bonfire and it gives you the option to light it. Each torch you pick up gives you 5 more minutes of use (you identified the timer correctly in the menu screen). There are multiple uses for torches.
    3. The uchigatana is a great weapon in all of these games. It's downside in DS2 is how easily it breaks. That's one advantage to dual-wielding (opposed to power-stancing)--you can use each weapon half as much and not wear them down. Also gives you access to two different movesets.
    4. If you do want to power stance, the weapons don't have to be the same exact class. You can power stance the short sword and scimitar you have, though as others point out you need 1.5x the STR and DEX requirements.
    5. There are tons of upgrade materials. Don't be afraid to upgrade different weapons to try out, though be somewhat cautious with using titanite chunks.
    Can't wait for part 3.

As you might have noticed, some enemies take very little damage from your swords. Often this is indicated by changing the sound effect of your hits to tings instead of solid flesh rending sounds.
These heavily armored enemies resist slashing weapons like these, but do take full damage from most blunt weapons (for instance, the mace).

ADP is good to level but don't expect it to make a huge difference by the end. It helps a lot though and also speed up how fast you use items such as Estus Flasks. ADP does lose effectiveness around it being lvl 25-30 so I wouldn't upgrade it to 40-50 and lose out on other stats being higher.
Anyways it's awesome to see you enjoy this game! It's fairly divisive but I think you'll enjoy it quite a bit.
PS: This is the game to try duel wielding due to new mechanic called powerstancing. Try it out with two weapons of the same class! ex. two greatswords, two whips, two rapiers, etc (nvm Mati already found out)

Tapping dodge in this game is really great alot of the other games the back dodge is mehh but in ds2 it has saved my life so many times, and for powerstance you need double the amount of strenth or dex to duel wield so if the weapon is 12 streath youll need 22 to duel wield, and it does not have to be 2 of the same you can use a curved sword and katana and powerstance

another general tip, drinking estus out of combat is usually the smarter call because u have to pay for lifegems. But if you are in a fight, lifegems are the better call because they usually heal almost the same amount, just slower but you can move and you consume them faster. You can also consume multiple estus or lifegems by pressing the buttom fast multiple times in a row

    • @darkphoenix2
      @darkphoenix2 Рік тому

The movement speed is barely useful and Estus is just as fast to use at high Agility. It's definitely better healing than lifegems when you have it upgraded.

So as another tip, people here are misleading you a little bit about dual wielding. If you want to do it, it doesn't *have* to be the same types of weapons. You can dual wield such things as a curved sword and a straight sword, an axe and a hammer, or a curved greatsword and an ultra greatsword. Their size needs to be comparable, and there are plenty of options. But yes, you do need 1.5 times the stats required to wield these weapons

Something to keep in mind about dual wielding:
Ds2 has a mechanic called "powerstancing".
This allows you to take two separate weapons (within the same class) to combine in to one moveset (tied to the L1/Lb button, not sure of the button on pc).
There is a stat requirements for powerstancing:
Add 50% to stat requirements of the weapon you want to powerstance.

AGI (based on ADP and to lesser extent attunement) took the place of equipment weight- s and roll duration is the same regardless of equipment, so long as you stay under 70%.
You can pretty much equip what you want now.
There are still some negatives... I think in terms of stamina regeneration and roll DISTANCE, so improving equipment load is still helpful and there are times where lighter is better.
But it's not like DS1 where basically any armor is usually a huge penalty, again, unless you pass 70%.
This is part of why DS2 is peak fashion souls.

About dual wielding... it's not NECESSARILY the same weapon that you need. Similar size sword type weapons of different sub classes can be dual wielded. Basically a straight sword can dual wielded with another straight, but it can also be dual wielded with curved swords, rapiers, katanas. Spears can be DW with Halberds. As long as the weapons are similar types, they can be DW.
Also there's another requirement. You NEED 50% MORE Strength and Dexterity than the HIGHEST STAT REQUIREMENTS OF BOTH WEAPONS to dual wield.

    Some good tips/hints spoilerfree
Those dudes that fell from the ceiling? Check where they came from.
If a shield doesnt have 100% melee damage absorption, youll still get hit a bit.
If youre hollow you will still be invaded by NPC's at certain locations.
Use estus first if you have time for it, then shards, saves ya money
You can go ahead and lvl ADP, since a lot of ppl say it helps, which it probably does.. But pls don't think you actually HAVE to to play the game, I didn't my first playthrough.. But I guess it's handy.. I heard a streamer complain some time because you HAD to lvl it, but the thing is.. you don't, if you git gud ;) xD

    To Powerstance(Dual-Wield),
1.Your weapons must have the same attack type (ig thats what its called) so a sword that does slash damage can be powerstanced with another weapon that does slash damage.
    2. The stat requirement to powerstance is based on the highest STR/DEX requirement out of both weapons.
So for example if the weapon in your right has a stat requirement of 12 STR and 8 DEX while the weapon in your left has a stat requirement of 8 STR and 15 DEX, you find out the highest STR requirement is 12 (Right hand) and the highest DEX requirement is 15 (Left hand) then your stats MUST be equal to or above both 12 STR and 15 DEX in order to powerstance them.
Writing this after only 11mins into the video (sorry if its a little confusing) so excuse me if you end up learning how to powerstance by the end of the video. Have a great day/night.❤

I always feel so restless without your videos, Mati :D I LOVE them so much, and your positive energy and all always bring a smile to my face.
Definitely always keep looking around carefully, there a lot of hidden parts and ways (you can get up to the second floor where Lucatiel was for example you can actually get in there, there is a ramp because of a broken stone fence).
By the way, you can blow up the wall next to the bonfire you were sitting at where the lifegem-selling hag used to reside before moving to Majula (the bonfire you used to reach Pursuer), just throw a bomb at it or make a hollow throw it. Usually, if you see barrels near a wall, it can be blown up. For the statues, you need a special item, Branch of Yore. Curse in DS2 lowers your health as if you died, what kills you and curses you truly is an effect called "Petrify". And yes, you can get invaded while Hollow in DS2, so prepare for invasions :D You got invaded by an NPC.
Also, I would get some specific weapon/s you are going to use and preserve the shards for it instead of upgrading anything you currently have and will most likely switch up. I would wait with upgrading armour too. With ADP look at AGI(lity) stat, it caps at 110, so if you are close to it (like 105) you don't need to level ADP anymore. Also, in DS2 you definitely do not want to rush to the fog gate unless you really know what you are doing since in DS2, most of the interaction animations have active hitboxes (only the very last animation frames do not), so if the enemy catches up to you while going through a fog wall, you will get rekt. Get a bow to aggro enemies.
I am so glad you are enjoying DS2 and cannot wait for more already, Mati!
