So now that you completed the DLCs, a little piece of lore: Each one of the queens is a daughter of Manus (the DS1 DLC boss). When we killed him, his soul was shattered into small pieces. And each one the queens represents a sin or a negative emotion: Greed, wrath, fear... As you noted, the old chaos is a remnant of lost izalith. When the witch of Izalith tried to create a second first flame, she ended up spawning the chaos and all the demons we find in Dark souls. So the Ivory king literally married a fragment of the abyss, made her love him, built his throne on top of literall hell to be the first line of defence if any kind of demon got out of there and when things went sour he plunged into the chaos to fight alone.
I've heard several variations on what the four dark ladies represent...As far as my interpretation goes: Nashandra was the smallest fragment and so WANTED for everything she didn't have, Elana's kingdom was ruined by the Drakeblood Knights and the Dragon, and since she was full of WRATH, she wanted vengeance (As she says when you enter, she puts you down below her saying you don't even deserve the mire, corrupting Velstat, perhaps filling said dragon with her poisonous songs), Alsanna was her father's FEAR and so sought a strong king, but when that king left, she was alone in a frozen city (probably the worst fate for someone with a fear complex when you think about it), and last Nadalia, who had her father's POWER and thus sought a powerful land, and when she found the Iron King's land abandoned by Sir Alonne and the King dead, she made it her own and enticed travelers to the land by dancing so as literally to become as smoke...it is said that she renounced her body to the ash idols to spread said smoke (The one that curses you in-game and gives enemies that ash coating) to control the land and those in it... Want, Wrath, Fear, and Power...the four corruptions of humanity...as Saulden says, "Don't you see what that means? To be alive, that's the real curse right there." I think it's why Vendrick also says something to the effect of, "When the fire fades, men will assume their true form." Harkening back to DS1 where when disparity appeared between light and dark, life and death, humans and gods came out of the dark (Gods claiming great souls, humans claiming the Dark Soul), but we were dwelling in dark, and at the end of DS1 it is said that humans will usher in an age of dark, and the humanity sprite seems to represent darkness incarnate...the philosophical implication are pretty interesting...
@@matiasgago I think this fight probably inspired a lot for the Radahn fight. They took everything that was good from all their games and made Elden Ring.
If you didnt notice, the invader that backstabbed you is discuised as one of the barrels near the chest and if you look back, one of the barrels just starts moving towards you. And the white dude at 1:23:10 who follows you is at first not attacking and pretends to be friendy (He even waves at you) but when you pull the lever he backstabs you and tries to kill you🤣
I was always confused about that guy. I thought i did something to piss him off. 😅 turns out he just a dirty rotten jerk In my playthrough he always seems to fall off the dude though lol so no backstabbing
The Burnt Ivory King is just perfection. Dude is a true hero. From first dropping into the old chaos with the gang of Loyce Knights to the amazing OST. And the king himself comes out from the fucking eye of Sauron, what an entrance man.
Just a reminder that you can find headless vengarl's body in the shaded woods in the same are as scorpion man. It can be found in a drop across the area's entrance. Defeating will let you summon him. Looking up where the other stakes are to finish up Nadalia probably wouldn't hurt either.
I was hoping he finish Benhart's quest and learn the secret of his sword...(He could learn it by talking to Magarold or Maulin, IIRC, but he may have already breezed through those dialogs...maybe he'll see it on the boss item screen)
When you do get around to beating the game, please please please try a couple post-game things before moving on: When you beat the final boss, don't begin ng+, just return to the bonfire. Then fast travel to the King's Gate bonfire in Drangleic Castle. Use a Bonfire Ascetic on it and head up the ladder to the floor above. You want to go to the throne room with the two empty chairs, up the stairs near the main castle entrance, just passed Chancellor Wellager (the ghost npc) The true Dark Souls II begins in that throne room. 🙏
@Mati do you really like suffering? If you are finished with Hollow Knight .there is a game from a Spanish developer that is called Blasphemous. It is a metroid kind of game 🎮. The whole theme is religious very dark twisted way. And it's Spanish .I play this right now. If you like to suffer here you can do that. literally😅
the ivory king is one of my favorite npcs of all time. a true king, hero and badass. Not only did he devote his entire life to stop the chaos from spreading, building eleum loyce in the process, he also placed his very throne atop the entrance to it, to serve as first line of defense against the chaos
Ah yes, the Canada DLC… Burnt Ivory King is such a cool boss in terms of visuals and even the move set, one of the coolest looking bosses in the series imo. It’s been such a blast seeing you experience these DLCs, no matter how painful they were to play through at times e.g the messed up hedgehogs in this DLC. Can’t wait for the final stretch, the last couple main game bosses etc. and other stuff you might want to do!
There's a coffin you can take in the Crown of the Ivory King DLC that will lead you to the most challenging area in Dark souls 2. Theres a Rampart Golem and some hollows guarding the door for the entrance of the area that you might remember. Also KILL DARKLURKER. Grandahl has been waiting your return for WEEKS. Don't leave him hanging :(
Ivory king is such a cool boss and character but maybe I love him this much because of the Aviators song. Requiem for the King , you should listen to it if you have time. For sure he is the best from all the kings.
Mati, you remember the bird lady who trades boss souls for weapons? There is another guy who does the same but offers different stuff, the stone statue of a mage looking guy in the Lost Bastille blocking the last bonfire in a cell by the long bridge to Sinner's Rise...before you finish the game (Since you haven't been consuming bosses for souls) you should check out what you can trade in, there is some badass stuff on offer...it's also a kind of convenient way to see which bosses you have killed and which you haven't...
You missed the snowball by the last knight you found. You could knock it down and it would build itself big enough to connect the bridge. I honestly think that some of the most clever npc invaders come from ds2. That stealth backstab and bow, and the phantom disguise ring are so great details. They literally try to lure you into traps. It's such little details that are so good. Ivory King was one of my favorite boss scenarios of Dark Soul. What's rough is trying to farm Loyce Souls for the not burnt set and special dialogue face to face. Most people forget what this story means when they get to DS3.
I hope you make an entire episode beating all of the bosses you haven’t beaten yet. (Ancient Dragon, Dark Lurker, and the triple boss fight in the first DLC). I know that triple boss fight struck pain within you, but you GOTTA.
when i fought him for the first time i beated him with only one loyce knight because i didnt know there were others , it took me 3 days to beat him and it was so fcking hard , but when i discovered on UA-cam that you can close all gates with the rest of the knights , i felt so good that i beated him without them
It’s been real watching you “git gud”. S2 is definitely the one ppl either love or hate. No in between lol. And when the day comes, there are a few bosses in DS3 that I’m looking forward to watching you fight. 💪🏼
This journey of yours i’ve been enjoying it since its my first time watching anything of dark souls 2, its been a good time, and keep up the great content
Best boss (entrance) surely, but overall DLC I prefer the former 2 - an underground temple with puzzles and parkour, and an enormous tower to scale with elevators to unlock different paths resonate better with me than melting the frozen ice to go back where you've already been :P
Man, I enjoyed Eleum Loyce but to me nothing beats Brume Tower in this game. Eleum Loyce had more frustrating enemies to me than the other two DLCs. I don't think anything in the game had me tilted like the hedgehogs lol
Fair enough, I liked Brume Tower well enough but the underground temple was just annoying imo, there was barely any challenge to the puzzles, it was more just frustration. I just love the aesthetics of Eleum Loyce and with the weapon I had, the enemies in the area were a cakewalk for the most part, save for the hedgehogs, but those I just used arrows on. The only thing I'll say is that the Frigid Outskirts are garbage, even for co-op. That's legitimately one of the worst areas in any FromSoftware game.
I'm more of a Brume tower enjoyer. The show level just doesn't do it for me and I don't find the enemies enjoyable especialy the basics and those ice sonic hedgehogs
A bit of lore SPOILERS, to save you a lot of grinding... That last bit of the frozen lady's dialog about the knights is telling you to go back into the chaos and collect Loyce souls (I think you have one)...at 5 or so increments you get the Loyce set that the knights are wearing, and if you get 50 you get the Ivory King set available at Majula and the lady (Alsana's) soul...it's a pain in the ass, and the only real benefit is the lore on her soul that states that she is the fear aspect (IIRC) of Manus, Father of the Abyss...each of the large black soul items (From the 3 DLC ladies and Nashandra) are each one emotional aspect of Manus...and one could say, destructive aspect of humanity...wrath, fear, want, and power...
There's a really cool fist weapon that you can find in the 2nd bonfire area. First go past the area with all the boxed all the way until you see a snow area. Go through it and keep going until you find a place with fire scones. Light them up and then go through the door until there's a side passage on your left. Keep going until you're at a ledge and you'll find the secret weapon with a kung fu moveset.
This fight reminds me a lot of Radahn’s fight in Elden Ring, this highly respected and powerful warrior who has succumbed to madness and his men want to give him an honorable death so they help you in the fight. It’s just awe inspiring
I had the same reaction to the Old chaos place, that place is unreal haha! Also was losing my mind trying the boss without knowing about recruiting the knights 😂
Mati your fight of the Ivory King completely put me to shame - 2 tries really?! The dark knights alone gave me such a headache - had to try all different weapons & rings to finally calculated my way to the Ivory King himself and it took me hours to finish it. I love this DLC so much and this episode even more. Thanks for this amazing ride - so sad it’s ending. By the way, is it Kirin or Reindeer I don’t know, but hella cool new area - look forward to it.
As one who played this game for the first time in 2022. The Ivory king was one of my favourite bosses in the game, but if I have to be honest, fighting the knights before him killed the fight. I feel like once your allies closed the portals they should have stay closed and not reset after each death. It would have kept the epic intro special and kept momentum going strong after failed attempts.
I'm on my second playthrough and just got here. Good job, it took me forever to find all 4 knights. Fun note, with the eye, you can now see all previously invisible mobs in the vanilla game. Like the guys in the forest.
Love the ivory king! Easily in my top 3 bosses in this gane. When you have all of the crowns and gave human Vendrick one more visit, they now give perma humanities. That’s right no more need of human effigies! Would be a good opportunity to attempt the Dark Lurker again.
The tower that had several chests that were frozen, and a frozen mimic in it is at the end of a walkway next to some stairs. At the other end of the walkway, opposite of the tower and stairs is a locked door with bonfire behind it. There is also a coffin that deserves closer inspection.
The only people who think this is the worst DLC are people who feel like they have to beat everything in the game. I thought this was the best DLC, till you start going for completion, then it really bends you over.
If you want to get to the optional area, it's kind of tricky, there's a small side path right before the drop to the second bonfire of this area, it's pretty hard to see even after blizzard is gone, this path leads to the key to that closed door on the wall
Do you think you’ll do darklurker? If you don’t want to because the runback is too tough, that’s fair. If you want, try saving a file and every time you are low on human effigies, you could reload that save. Btw, I enjoy these playthroughs. Keep it up!
tbh Darklurker is my favorite boss in this game by far and I would never do the fight without permanently clearing out the enemies. The fact that you get mist walled out until you kill them is just dumb, you gotta pick one of the sites, kill the enemies 15 times while you learn Darklurker's moves, and then do it. It's an investment.
well done, and here is a lore fun fact; the witch that talked to you after you have defeated the ivory king boss is indeed one of the four daughters of (MANUS) father of the abyss in DS1 DLC
You can actually farm that aria for quest item and when you get enough of them, she will brake some of the ice, that blocks the path to her and give an item. Then when you get 50 souls of those knights in total, you can walk up to her and she will give you her soul and die at peace, knowing that you took back the kings and his knights souls from the chaos.
35:11 That NPC uses chameleon to transform into a barrel. I love how they've used NPC invasions in DS2 (sometimes annoying, true, but they have really unique approaches and try to show you various pvp techniques and fighting styles / weapons / spells).
Hey I know you're basically done with DS2 at this point, but it's never too late to stick the blossom kiteshield on your back. It's free stamina recovery speed 👌
Glad to see you enjoying the last of what Dark Souls 2 has to offer, can't knock a game till you try it and it's why I prefer to personally try a game myself before listening to what people have to say about it and don't care what anybody says but Dark Souls 2 is my most favorite in the series. Just the freedom of exploring and the infusion mechanic in this one just makes this game so great as I love to infuse but that's what Dark Souls 2 is best at, dark souls 1 had best story, bosses, soundtrack and views in my opinion but it's because of bed of chaos that keeps me from having it as my favorite and Demon's Souls is my third(yes I've played both the original and the remake). Speaking of which, do you plan on playing Demon's Souls probably after Dark Souls is finished?
Im just gonna say this now, u have like 200 healing items that u haven't checked xD (ok maybe not that many) u could use them instead of the flask when not fighting save u a lot of troubles later trust me
I get home from work and get ready to work on editing a video. Then this comes up on my phone. Darn you Mati you beautiful b*stard! Also, Ivory King might be my absolute favorite boss in DS2. Definitely in my top 3, but easy number 1 in lore.

love your optimistic playthrough!
I just find it hilarious that you killed Aava with a hit that did SEVEN damage...
I'm so happy you entered the mist at the beginning lmfao. I tried it like 5 times my first time 💀💀
Ivory king the most chad of chad kings
Do you think you’ll do darklurker? If you don’t want to because the runback is too tough, that’s fair. If you want, try saving a file and every time you are low on human effigies, you could reload that save.
Btw, I enjoy these playthroughs. Keep it up!
tbh Darklurker is my favorite boss in this game by far and I would never do the fight without permanently clearing out the enemies. The fact that you get mist walled out until you kill them is just dumb, you gotta pick one of the sites, kill the enemies 15 times while you learn Darklurker's moves, and then do it. It's an investment.
33:52 I kept telling you beware of the cylinder and this is why.
The frigid outskirts are a MUST! I wanted to break my pc,it is crazy experience
well done, and here is a lore fun fact; the witch that talked to you after you have defeated the ivory king boss is indeed one of the four daughters of (MANUS) father of the abyss in DS1 DLC
The prepare to cry about the ivory king is very good
You can get some of Vendricks Equipment in that Locked Door in the Shrine of Amana!!
“This has been a really cool dlc so far, thought I’d hate it based on the feedback”. Oh wait for it 😁 its coming.
You can actually farm that aria for quest item and when you get enough of them, she will brake some of the ice, that blocks the path to her and give an item. Then when you get 50 souls of those knights in total, you can walk up to her and she will give you her soul and die at peace, knowing that you took back the kings and his knights souls from the chaos.
this part of the dlc is the good part. the raindeer part is just hell
35:11 That NPC uses chameleon to transform into a barrel. I love how they've used NPC invasions in DS2 (sometimes annoying, true, but they have really unique approaches and try to show you various pvp techniques and fighting styles / weapons / spells).
Wow, big respect for beating Ivory King on attempt 2!
what a great playthrough I can't wait to see you play dark souls 3 and sekiro
Mati the girl beside the blacksmith should sell all the upgrade materials by now. Gotta pump up that damage.
Hey I know you're basically done with DS2 at this point, but it's never too late to stick the blossom kiteshield on your back. It's free stamina recovery speed 👌
Yes!! Very excited for DS3 Mati!
dark souls 3 on the horizon makes me so happy
Nice vídeo!!!!! The third boss is in that locked door on the icy bridge ❤❤❤
been waiting for the chad ivory king, let's see if the frog knights served you well 😂
Absolute gigachad entrance
Excited for this!!!
This is the fight that let mento destroy the disk
I hope you will fight the secret boss because please by fighting "it" You will understand the true meaning of "Scholar of the First Sin"
Aye i see bloodborne merch in the backround just need a lady maria tshirt now
Holy Knight Autheim was using Chameleon as a barrel. Pretty cool if you ask me.
Man I forgot how cool this fight was
Glad to see you enjoying the last of what Dark Souls 2 has to offer, can't knock a game till you try it and it's why I prefer to personally try a game myself before listening to what people have to say about it and don't care what anybody says but Dark Souls 2 is my most favorite in the series.
"It's like winter Anor Londo"
🤐
1:10:50 you are talking about the Ruin Sentinels, but no, they are different from the knights of Eleum Loyce.
Im just gonna say this now, u have like 200 healing items that u haven't checked xD (ok maybe not that many) u could use them instead of the flask when not fighting save u a lot of troubles later trust me
1:23:47 Noo he missed the emote lol
I get home from work and get ready to work on editing a video. Then this comes up on my phone. Darn you Mati you beautiful b*stard!
Also, Ivory King might be my absolute favorite boss in DS2. Definitely in my top 3, but easy number 1 in lore.
