Kymberly Pinder discusses collecting as a form of storytelling and considers the question of who has the authority to tell those stories. In her talk, she examines the miniature and the souvenir in relation to collecting and sharing. She encourages us to be attentive to representations as a “cultural game of telephone” whereby the meaning or translation of an object varies depending on context and perspective-whether that of the artist, the collector, the curator, or the viewer.
