      Wtf I'm amazed at people saying there's no remake I'm 20 years old so the only Doctor Dolittle I know it's the one with Eddie Murphy it was released in 1998 it's was amazing and super funny even had a sequel in 2001 and a third movie in 2006 I never knew that there was an older version this is the original and always will be but I guess everyone grew up with different things supposedly there's a new Doctor Dolittle coming out soon staring Robert Downey Jr.

    I just watched this movie yesterday and I LOVE it!! It feels nice that the doctor cares so much for the animals (he treats them like how any other doctor would treat another patient, he protects them even if it makes him be at odds with the local law, became vegetarian to avoid harming any of them indirectly, and takes offense if other humans don’t show at least a modicum of respect for them), we could really use having more genuinely kind protagonists.
    (Also, am I the one who low-key ships Dolittle and Matthew Mug? That glance during the farewell at the end does have some hints of things being “a bit more than friendship”)

      I'm 25 years younger than this film, but I first watched it on tv many years ago and found it very charming. I hadn't watched it for years until a couple of months ago after hearing that a new version with RDJ was coming out and not wanting to be reminded of the Eddie Murphy films (which I watched some time after the original version). It's still a charming and warm musical for family audience, sure a bit outdated in some places, but try and see past that knowing it was made in the 60s. I mean after all Chitty chitty Bang Bang and Mary Poppins are a bit the same, but still stand as classics, this deserves as much attention considering all the animals they trained for the film and the catchy music numbers.

      @@makorufus How mean! That does not surprise me though, they did the same thing to that poor pig who played Babe. I was happy to aee on the live action film of Charlotte's Web that all the animals were from an urban farm and were not going to be eaten instead they were going to live comfortably for the rest of their life.

      I'm pretty sure all animals are all well looked after. Animals do become quite famous. Apparently near by to where I live, there's like animal shelter which is a home fir famous animals, such as wolves who played in Game of Thrones, etc.

    My Moms generation is Rex Harrison version of Doctor Doolittle and is a classic
    My generation is the Eddie Murphy version of Doctor Doolittle and because I was born in the 90s
    But RDJ version of Doctor Doolittle sucks and I actually only love his performance as Iron Man and Sherlock Holmes. Because the movie Doolittle in the 2020s with CGI special effects sucks and reason why Fox is the best adaptation of Doctor Doolittle and Universal studios

    I remember my mom watching this then they had a Eddie Murphy Dr Doolittle. Now they got this new one that its like they trying to replace this original. This is classic. Then Eddie Murphy was funny comedy. Originals are by far the best . Heck even Willie wonka and the chocolate factory was better then charlie and the chocolate factory remake..

      In fairness putting aside their garb they spoke the best English and were probably the most well educated characters in the entire movie. They had some dumb laws they honored but who doesn’t. I’d personally call it a subversion of racist assumptions rather than outright racism.

    • @MrSuperpiff4
      @MrSuperpiff4 2 роки тому

      @@michaelbootes4822 idk if we can put those asides, but anyway apparently this was a product of the writers blunting the even more racist book with “King Bumpo”. I mean essentially it comes down to a white man traveling to “Africa” to help primitive natives. The racist undercurrents are there and you best believe that’s why Eddie Murphy was cast as Doolittle and the Africa plot was abandoned in the 90s remakes.
