@@ansumanahargett6227 He purposely ruined some shots, was racist and antisemetic towards other actors, made ridiculous demands, and was an overall ass.
I just watched this movie yesterday and I LOVE it!! It feels nice that the doctor cares so much for the animals (he treats them like how any other doctor would treat another patient, he protects them even if it makes him be at odds with the local law, became vegetarian to avoid harming any of them indirectly, and takes offense if other humans don’t show at least a modicum of respect for them), we could really use having more genuinely kind protagonists. (Also, am I the one who low-key ships Dolittle and Matthew Mug? That glance during the farewell at the end does have some hints of things being “a bit more than friendship”)
I am here because: 1. Rex Harrison I only of from My Fair Lady. 2. When I was a kid, I only saw the Eddie Murphy version of Dr. Dolittle. 3. I've been a fan of other classic musicals including The Sound of Music, Oliver, and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.
The 2020 adaptation sucked compared to this materpiece. Well, maybe I am exaggerating, but when I watched this as a kid I felt all possible emotions from this : happiness, anger, sadness, etc...I cried, I laughed, and Rex Harrisson is still the best Dolittle ever.
Wow... a movie that actually follows at leats some plots of the books. Of course they have to force in a romance but oh well, I guess I can bear it with the giant snail and a ship raft and actual animals he had in the books. I have to find it! Funny some of that music sounded like the music in "Dolly" and I have the feeling that John is also played by the man who played one of the characters there.
I think Rex Harrison himself would rather we didn't talk about this one. He only did the movie grudgingly, and it was a big budget bombinero when it was released. And in the making of one scene where he had to sing a number in a field of sheep, the sheep pissed all over him. Poor Rex.

I hadn't watched it for years until a couple of months ago after hearing that a new version with RDJ was coming out and not wanting to be reminded of the Eddie Murphy films (which I watched some time after the original version).
