I still don't understand why there is a bar running across the top of the window on the doors. Not sure what purpose it would serve and no one seemed to know in the last video either. Seems like it would just block visibility
1) Due to the curvature of the door and the window, a full size window could not fit inside the door. 2) If just one piece, the intersection of the window seal and the top adds a lip that cuts in to the aerodynamics. 3) While many have brought this up as a visibility issue, those whom have driven it say it is not as noticable as you might think. There are several vehicles that have a similar design. I believe they made the bar as narrow as they could while still performing the needed functions.
@glennzajic7318 hey thanks for the reasoning behind it. I knew there had to be some and it makes sense. Yeah hopefully it's not noticeable for driving.
If this company hopes to reach a high production rate and decent profitability, I think the massive billet aluminum parts must be die-cast or composite.
Just to share about range: I get 50 miles electric range on my rav4. That’s typically enough for 4 to 7 days for my life. And I can pretty much charge it for free while I’m in the gym/grocery store parking lot.
I’ve got a CDL-A, and I think the furthest I’ve ever done commercially in a ten hour shift was >600 miles. The furthest I’ve ever driven in one day in a POV was 1000+ miles in ~20 hours (during that CrowdStrike outage) and that fking sucked. You don’t want to drive 20 hours straight on the highway.
What's the projected time frame to go back to hub motors in the front? Does the transaxle have a torsen LSD option? FWD sucks, need that rear motor in ASAP.
Hopefully this shows how advanced Aptera has become in getting their vehicle ready for full production, it's literally the final step. I foresee quite a bit more $$ coming in due to this recent news and occurrence. It's a revolutionary idea and design that I think more and more people will learn about and embrace as time goes on. 🌞⚡🚗👍

I can’t wait to replace my Model 3 with one of these!! Keep it going!!
Keep everyone updated I guess. I drive a Model 3 as well, it's my primary and only car. Going 75mph down the road on a 3 wheel vehicle gives me pause. Be careful about cross winds, performance on wet roads...snow...etc, and make sure you look into it's crash rating...when it comes out. I'm not sure this vehicle can match your model 3 safety.
@@williamgrunzweig571 And look at proposed annual operating savings. It's around $250/yr if it works well. Small benefit for giving up so much more capability of conventional EV. Around $20K I can see the bling vs performance tradeoff, but at $40K it really offers nothing.
@@artsmith103i heard insurance is $1,000s/yr for the model 3. There goes any gas savings.
@@Gary-ee3kq Insurance on my model 3 is the same as with basically any other car. It's right at the national average in my country. There's no reason to believe you wouldn't be paying around the same with an Aptera.
@@logitech4873Aptera is classified as an autocycle so insurance will be a lot less, you obviously haven’t been paying attention.
Have they finished the crash tests?
it doesn't look like they have a car factory, just a few hand built prototypes
Great update Steve. Really looking forward to seeing things and the other PI testing.
I have been following the progress for years. I am beginning to wonder if this car will ever be produced. Lots of talk some progress but way to slow to be out for awhile. I would be surprised to see them on the road in 2026.
Is it possible for a right hand drive model and are you planning to sell overseas?
I'm troubled by the scene of a worker using a screwdriver.
Will the new proposed trade war between usa mexico canada affect pricing of the aptera? I know it may be impossible to truly tell but i guess a more time accurate question would be...are any parts shipped through one of those areas in order for production intent vehicles currently?
In a perfect world for me, I'd have the Aptera for my general running around, and a Rivian R2 if I needed to carry more than one passenger, carry multiple bulky items, or slog through snowy roads.
Or get a a Tacoma for a fraction of the cost and not worry about it anymore. Another option is smaller SUV plus expanded metal trailer when necessary.
Happy Thanksgiving Aptera team and Aptera community, we are thankful for both of you! Great PI progress and update!
Are UK/EU reservation holders ever going to get their Aptera? Word has it the Aptera is too wide for our roads. Is this true?
By law it will be a car in Europe, so many many more rules, it would need to be completely redesigned
So maybe in 10 year
@@shrimptopian3392 Why would it need to be redesigned? Obviously it's a car, was this not always the case?
The cuurent aptera is designed for the motorcycle law in us
In Europe it will not be a motorcycle by law but a full car
So different regulation
So you can have a motorised tricycle (with just one central headlight at night!!!) in the US that’s WIDER than the car width maximum allowed in the EU = completely & utterly bonkers, AND… How come Aptera were allowed to take reservations money off us all in the EU/UK under false pretences? = dishonest…
@@shrimptopian3392 Motorcycle law??? Why? Is this so that they can sneak around crash safety laws? Why would they do this?
Steve, if you give me one, I'll drive it through a Maine winter in EV-doubter country and give it a solid real-world drive test for the season. Plus, I need a new car. 😁
It is

Plans for the castings?
If this company hopes to reach a high production rate and decent profitability, I think the massive billet aluminum parts must be die-cast or composite.
Very nice! Hope you can get your solar glass and collab with electric planes as well. 😎
Just to share about range: I get 50 miles electric range on my rav4. That’s typically enough for 4 to 7 days for my life. And I can pretty much charge it for free while I’m in the gym/grocery store parking lot.
You don’t need 1000 miles electric range
I’ve got a CDL-A, and I think the furthest I’ve ever done commercially in a ten hour shift was >600 miles. The furthest I’ve ever driven in one day in a POV was 1000+ miles in ~20 hours (during that CrowdStrike outage) and that fking sucked. You don’t want to drive 20 hours straight on the highway.
This was great news.
What's the projected time frame to go back to hub motors in the front? Does the transaxle have a torsen LSD option? FWD sucks, need that rear motor in ASAP.
who goes into production first: tesla roadster or aptera ?
Aptera will go bankrupt first, and than there is a chance that another company will make it, so maybe 2030
The design is from the '90s. Listen carefully, in some 5yrs they are building the 1st battery and cooling system. There is no cabin heat pump. They have no real test data. USCG funding likely ended. Likely over $40K if there is ever completed design.
Hilarious how these commenters still haven’t figured out this is a scam even after 19 years of broken promises.
Almost 21 years
Little reminder: 1 year ago you estimated, that at the end of this year the first Aptera will be delivered
The original delivery date was 2020
@@shrimptopian3392 @eliashrebik6786 Key word "estimated". Aptera has been 100% more transparent about any and all progress/delays compared to any other vehicle maker let alone start-up.
Go innovate something. Make something new that nobody has made work well yet. Then make it manufacturable for masses.
See if you hit your timeline. Maybe then you’ll know why doing new things are hard, and be more supportive of effort instead of pessimists
I did, 3 times, all successful companies and nothing a day late
