@toneriggz I agree with you 100%. Hip hop either sees its elders as nostalgia or a joke. Other genres (rock, country, blues, jazz, etc) sees their elders as legends who deserve respect. ACDC, Aerosmith and U2 will always sell out arenas while KRS and BDK struggle to fill up places that would have held 1/3 of their crowd in their heyday.
@MrKeepit2000 Hell yeah, man! It was a pleasure talking to you and your girl for, what, like an hour?! Haha! Anyway, it's nice meeting up with actual cool people.
@inepthabit And all those links you sent refer to the UK with no research on anyone in the US. SOPA was a US bill so, obviously, I was speaking about what happens here. I can't speak on the UK because I don't live there. If your "pirates" think differently, great for you guys.
@Pomaori That has nothing to do with the artists. That's on the labels. And I can tell you right now if I wanted to find Stones Throw stuff for free I could. But I agree with you. Labels need to step it up. But, again, they wouldn't have to do that if people would stop illegally uploading their albums. It's like blaming the cops for crime while taking the heat off the criminals themselves. The cops wouldn't have to do all this work if people would stop doing stupid shit. But I feel you.
@Pomaori Come on, man. People do not buy everything they download and enjoy. You know it as well as I do. What people fail to understand is that piracy doesn't only hurt huge major labels. They affect the smaller indie labels as well. Ask Jux. Ask RSE. Ask Duck Down. Piracy, to a degree, spreads the word about albums, but it doesn't help them make money/survive unless they can afford to tour the majority of the year.
@inepthabit Uh...they'd have no choice. If they heard an artist, they liked their songs (heard via UA-cam, mixtape, etc) and they wanted to hear the whole album they'd have to buy it. That's how we did it back in the day. And we didn't bitch about it. So your argument concerning not caring about labels is different. Not every label is simply out to fuck the artist. Some do what they can to assist the artist in becoming successful. So you should care about those. It's not back and white.
@Malcy1995 Besides Drizzy? Check out Cadence Weapon. I dig his stuff...although he hasn't done anything in a long time. K-OS is dope. Not purely hip hop, though. Swollen Members is from Canada. So is Buck 65.
Thanks for answering my question guys! To Kinge & Feefo goblin and lil b are my favorite webisodes too! lol Hopefully you guys have even more over the top debates and arguments!
@inepthabit That's interesting. I'll definitely seek that link out. If I can't find the links in this mess of comments, I'll hit you back. And, I'm gonna tell you right now, I've never heard of honest pirates in the US. But maybe someone else can hip me to that.
i just remeber something murs said when he was asked about it. "some people dont like napster and all that but as far Im concerned it helped me. I can go to any city in the US and have a club full of people who know me and like my music and are willing to pay for it. I can go anywhere in europe and sell tickets. I can go to australia, etc. If it wasnt for the internet these people wouldnt know me and wouldnt support me so for me it was good" (not verbatim obviously but you get the idea)
Question for next QnA!!! Who are the best lyricist in rap currently alive when it comes to; -Wordplay -Meaning -Political Views -Message -Storytelling -Creativity Thumbs Up please!!!
All the shots of them at Dave & Busters for some reason reminded me of the opening scene of Cloverfield. I was waiting for this big ass creature to come and just wreck the party! Good shit, though.
@inepthabit No. Not at all. If you like the artists music you should support it. Period. Not over time. Now. So no, I still think that logic is ridiculous. And of course no one can prove they spend less because they're pirating because what dumbass is gonna go on record of admitting to constantly pirating records??? And I'd love to see this "research" you keep speaking of with these honest pirates. Private message me a link, please.
@Pomaori I feel what you're saying, but yes, it does affect the indie artists and labels, too. People download everything. The reason you think it affects the large labels more is because there's more money to be lost there. BUT on the flipside, the little money indie artists have that gets lost hurts them a LOT more. See what I'm saying? This is directly from owners of indie labels' mouths. Ask any of them.
shoulda answered the question "what was the first full album/rapper you couldn't stop listening to?" that's what the man wanted to know. Keep it goin deadend
@mykectown As far as the comment you made about back in the day having to buy albums to listen to it back in the day, I'm glad times have changed to an extent. I hated having to deal with bringing back wack CDs and games to FYE and other stores and only get a fraction of what I paid for it.
@mykectown I think there are multiple factors. A lot of rap fans tend to grow out of listening to rap on a regular basis whereas in other genres that doesn't happen.
My Parents have pics of me on a tricycle with braids in my head riding around to Snoop Dogg's Doggystyle album and I had to be about 2 then so I was into Hip Hop at a Very young age.
do you think you guys will review robert glasper's black radio when it is out? not strictly a hip-hop album, but it does have some features from hip-hop artists on it.
@inepthabit This all sounds like excuses to get around paying for music. Piracy broadens horizons? Come on, bro. Not accusing YOU of sealing music, but your rationale is a little flawed because we both know, as I said, most people who are downloading music aren't paying for it. If they didn't buy the first album because they found it free, why would they buy the next one? I don't get that logic at all. But the ticket to show...I agree with you. But shit, some don't even do that.
@MrKeepit2000 That's straight up the truth dog...I was think that was the exact cd that turned me out too. My older sister had it and would play it all the time, and then Flesh of My Flesh Blood of my Blood...and Then There Was X followed suit. i recently started listening to FMF BMB again recently and I was still blown away at how good that cd was
@Macdogg91 There's been plenty. Try googling 'File-sharers are big spenders too', 'Study finds pirates 10 times more likely to buy music' or 'Pirates Are The Music Industry’s Most Valuable Customers', for instance.
The problem is that some people think music should be free. It's a good like any other. If you can't afford a pack of cigarettes, you don't steal them, you smoke less. People need to support the artists they like.
@mykectown I see both sides of the piracy issue. It does allow more exposure but then again it does take money out of the artists' pockets. There's no need to pirate the music since there are ways to hear or preview an album like Itunes, Amazon, UA-cam, streams by the artist, ect.
@inepthabit I've spoken to owners of indie labels. And, yes, piracy IS hurting their business. It's basic. If people can get it for free, why pay? It's the American way. It doesn't matter if it's a digital or MP3. If you care about supporting the artist, buy it. Not saying buy shit you don't like, but if you do dig it, pay for it. People can listen to tracks on UA-cam so sampling before buying is no excuse.
@mykectown True. They don't all refer to the UK though, but indeed they refer to European countries. I think SOPA affects everybody, not just the US. I'm Dutch, so obviously I know more about piracy here than in the US. But clearly piracy is an international issue, and not just a US one.
@VTECheart They think it's free because this is the era they are growing up in. There are so many other factors to consider as well. We could almost have a whole show on this topic.
@Macdogg91 I hear you. I never heard of those sites, I just preview in iTunes,Amazon, or if someone uploads to UA-cam. Maybe they should advertise those sites you named more.
@mykectown Exacttly, if you like. Most stuff I download I don't even know if I like. Stuff I just read or heard good things about. I'll send you some links in your pm about researches and stuff.
Congrats one an excellent full year. Love the videos. Just one question, how is Pacquiao running when Mayweather denied a 50/50 split. Call me a old school, but for my whole life I've been under the impression 50% is the most mathematically fair method of splitting money. What does Manny owe Floyd that would warrant Floyd making more money for working just has hard?
@mykectown True. But as a pirate I can tell you that there's alot of albums that I wouldn't have listened to otherwise. Thing is, you can't say that pirates spend less now than when they wouldn't pirate. My point is just, they have more music but they spend the same, just are more selective. And I'm not saying labels are bad, I'm just saying they are getting a different less lucrative role in this internet age, and that they aren't my focus, the artists are.
@mykectown Yeah, that's why most pirates tend to support the smaller artists sooner than mainstream artists, because they feel they're more deserving of their money.
@BigkKinny I know they're not exactly the same but when you think about the cost to the producer/artist, there isn't really a difference when it comes to digital media. The methods differ but the result is the same: the consumer gets the product, without the producer getting paid for it. It's very tricky to talk economics when it comes to digital goods, unless you're a professor... I'm not.
@KuruptKilla21 We would but time constraints make it difficult. Plus the perperation for the shows week to week is needed. Finally and this is the most important, we have to work to pay bills. Unfortunately DEHH doesn't quite do that for us. Haha. We love it though!
I'd say that hip hop is bigger than rock right now. Rock may have some bands that sell out arenas, but there aren't any superstars right now that are on the same level of pop stardom as Kanye or Lil Wayne.
Damn I know exactly what Beezy is talking bout and I'm 22 but I use to listen to WJLB at like 4 or 5 with a blank tape or a tape I ain't like with tha paper in tha little holes recording songs and got pissed when I got them talking in it or anything. Part of me wish it was still like that I use to be freestyling over beats they played. Made me love and respect hip hop more
@mykectown You're right, they don't. But people who pirate music tend to be very into music. They'll still spend alot of money on music. Piracy just broadens their horizon, and let's them have a conscious choice who to spend money on, which artist to support. So they might not buy the album they downloaded, but they are mor elikely to buy their next album, or a ticket to their concert.
@mykectown In Europe pirates are honest yeah. It's actually legal in my country, Holland, to download something from an illegal source for personal use. There are even political piracy parties in several countries. It's not a taboo here, and downloaders aren't even pursued.I posted some google titles in the comments earlier about research, One of the researches made pirates prove they bought stuff by showing coupons.
@VTECheart Piracy is different from theft. When you steal cigs, you physically take away the pack. When download without paying, you just create a copy of the product. We're approaching a time where good artists don't need labels anymore to find a public. And I'm sure some labels do blame piracy, but there's also plenty artists out there who feel piracy has been an important factor in their succes.
@Kingemedia o ok thats cool i need to check the rest of his albums, but what do u think about freddie gibbs though, to me he is dope he is another favorite mc of mine, he's bringing that real gangsta hip hop back he goes so deep into it, i havent heard that kind of gangsta rap since the old school hip hop such as kool g rap, scarface, ice t, ice cube, nwa etc. and yall should check out that 24hr ep he made with statik selektah called lord giveth, lord taketh away,
@toneriggz yeah man and i really dont understand why we do that its like if a rapper ages he automatically becomes extinct meanwhile rock bands are feeling arenas decades after they first came out
@inepthabit Ok, again, your logic is flawed. First off you're going on the idea that pirates are going to admit to being pirates. Where is this statistic coming from? Pirates are, all of the sudden, honest people? Really? And even if they're spending the money on the album they're uploading, the hundreds of people downloading it aren't. It doesn't even come close to balancing out. Once again, if you don't believe me hit up someone from an indie label. Ask them how they feel about it. I did.
Research has continuously found that people who pirate stuff are the same people who spend the most money on music, movies, games etc. They're just picky and spend their money on artists that they feel deserve it and produce quality content. If an artist produces a quality product then piracy will only promote that artist and product.
@toneriggz I agree with you 100%. Hip hop either sees its elders as nostalgia or a joke. Other genres (rock, country, blues, jazz, etc) sees their elders as legends who deserve respect. ACDC, Aerosmith and U2 will always sell out arenas while KRS and BDK struggle to fill up places that would have held 1/3 of their crowd in their heyday.
give it up for DEHH, legends of Atlanta hip-hop reviewing.
Glad you're enjoying it.
@MrKeepit2000 Hell yeah, man! It was a pleasure talking to you and your girl for, what, like an hour?! Haha! Anyway, it's nice meeting up with actual cool people.
@PatrickSicard Hmmm...yeah, probably. I thought we did mention Diggy...but I don't think anyone cared to mention Lil Twist.
@inepthabit And all those links you sent refer to the UK with no research on anyone in the US. SOPA was a US bill so, obviously, I was speaking about what happens here. I can't speak on the UK because I don't live there. If your "pirates" think differently, great for you guys.

Damn, wish I could've gone to the party. Looked like a great time. Congrats on the 1 year guys. Here's to many more!
Shout out to Kinge, still rockin that iPhone 3G! lol
The whole time they were talking about avant garde, all I could think about was Lupe "FOTP"
@Pomaori Come on, man. People do not buy everything they download and enjoy. You know it as well as I do. What people fail to understand is that piracy doesn't only hurt huge major labels. @LincMclaren Haha! I plan on upgrading at some point. Waiting to see what Apple does.
Finally, I love watching your videos u should put them out for often.

yep, got into ya'll after the Goblin review.
All the shots of them at Dave & Busters for some reason reminded me of the opening scene of Cloverfield.
I was waiting for this big ass creature to come and just wreck the party! Good shit, though.
Could you guys review The BDP album by KRS one. Not that it needs a review but I would like to hear u guys talk about it. It came out last month.
@inepthabit No. Not at all. If you like the artists music you should support it. Period. Not over time. Now. So no, I still think that logic is ridiculous. im going to look at the LIL B review again.
You guys should have soooo many more subs!!!
@darahmusic I don't really have one. I tend to only watch them once (some not at all).
@mykectown As far as the comment you made about back in the day having to buy albums to listen to it back in the day, I'm glad times have changed to an extent. I hated having to deal with bringing back wack CDs and games to FYE and other stores and only get a fraction of what I paid for it.
@Pomaori Yo...I know you're on Twitter. Hit me there. Let's talk about this. For real. I can't send you a message on here for some reason.
@mykectown I think there are multiple factors. A lot of rap fans tend to grow out of listening to rap on a regular basis whereas in other genres that doesn't happen.
feels like im watching a music video between the questions lol!
My Parents have pics of me on a tricycle with braids in my head riding around to Snoop Dogg's Doggystyle album and I had to be about 2 then so I was into Hip Hop at a Very young age.

Rap will never be bigger than Rock for the simple fact that in general, Rap discards it's veterans whereas Rock reveres them...

@Dolo083 There are a couple of strategies they could implement and be successful with it. They are just to stubborn to do so.
@mykectown True. They don't all refer to the UK though, but indeed they refer to European countries. I think SOPA affects everybody, not just the US. I'm Dutch, so obviously I know more about piracy here than in the US. But clearly piracy is an international issue, and not just a US one.

Yo, shoutout to Cubans for Angelina Castro...
I'd like to hear you guys talk about female rappers and why there is such a lack of them in the mainstream
@peanut766 Yes Reks is dope. Grey Hairs was the one in where he caught my attention.

@mykectown True. But as a pirate I can tell you that there's alot of albums that I wouldn't have listened to otherwise. Just out of curiosity seeing as you don't like Basketball or Boxing, are there any sports you are interested in Myke?
I'd say that hip hop is bigger than rock right now. Rock may have some bands that sell out arenas, but there aren't any superstars right now that are on the same level of pop stardom as Kanye or Lil Wayne.
i dont want to see beezy get mad with a gun! LOL!

K-Rino, hands down.
what video did ken make the superman comment on?
@mykectown In Europe pirates are honest yeah. It's actually legal in my country, Holland, to download something from an illegal source for personal use. There are even political piracy parties in several countries. It's not a taboo here, and downloaders aren't even pursued.I posted some google titles in the comments earlier about research, One of the researches made pirates prove they bought stuff by showing coupons.
@xJesterx777 Thanks!
@DylanTingley Check the channel for our playlist of videos. We have over 100 videos!
@VTECheart Piracy is different from theft. When you steal cigs, you physically take away the pack. When download without paying, you just create a copy of the product. Your analogy should compare stealing cigs, and stealing cds from a store. Not creating a copy.Theres a bit of a gray area between theft and piracy which makes it such a big issue.
@Dolo083 Shout out on that Hulu Plus subscription too. One of the best decisions I have made in a while dumping cable for Netflix and Hulu.
@mykectown And piracy isn't hurting the music industry. What's hurting the traditional music industry is the changeover of physical copies to digital copies. More music is being sold now than there ever has been. But they can't overprice mp3's like they did with CD's because consumers won't accept it, so they're not making as much profit on mp3.
@O7Lemon Probably not. Robert Glasper is dope. Had a chance to meet him once last year. His stories on Dilla are amazing. I think I have footage of that. I might have someone do a written review or maybe @beezy430 and I can speak on it. I think he listens to him too.
@jiggins14 Thanks!
@mykectown And you're assuming that if people didn't pirate that album, they would've bought it otherwise. I don't care about labels in their old form, I only care about artists. you guys better review the new Death Grips album when it drops. RELENTLESS RAW MOVEMENT!
What song is that playing in the background for most of the video?
do a show onif you think the grammys represent hip hop well?
kinge: Rock? ohhh mike could answer that hahahaha
wait did myke say his favourite webisode?
@Kingemedia o ok thats cool i need to check the rest of his albums, but what do u think about freddie gibbs though, to me he is dope he is another favorite mc of mine, he's bringing that real gangsta hip hop back he goes so deep into it, i havent heard that kind of gangsta rap since the old school hip hop such as kool g rap, scarface, ice t, ice cube, nwa etc. and yall should check out that 24hr ep he made with statik selektah called lord giveth, lord taketh away,
@jebass5 it is illegal to download music.
do you guys know any good canadian rappers?
is this the last part?
The beat in the background is very sexy.
@toneriggz yeah man and i really dont understand why we do that its like if a rapper ages he automatically becomes extinct meanwhile rock bands are feeling arenas decades after they first came out
@413NOTSREHTAEF We have a written review in the works by the homie @femdog so be on the lookout for that. It will be on the website.
@SinoCortez Nope.
I did.
"carrying bags nigga" hahahahahahahahaha
Mystery*
dis beat is crazy who did dis?
@365spook meant to say filling not feeling lol
Research has continuously found that people who pirate stuff are the same people who spend the most money on music, movies, games etc. They're just picky and spend their money on artists that they feel deserve it and produce quality content. If an artist produces a quality product then piracy will only promote that artist and product.
