I've always loved the digitigrade mecha designs, and the Crabs don't disappoint. They're generous with laser fire, so you can never say they're shellfish.
digitigrade and bird legs are my favorite mechs. i have a few "human like" mechs i like but mainly the bird and digitigrade ones are just so sexy looking.
I actually took a liking to this thing in MW5, mostly because it’s got a high speed, the turn rate is better than the Centurion, the heat dissipation is great, and the choice of laser weapons and the upgrades that are usable is numerous.
Hello Grim. I have never been a 'fan' of the Crab or King Crab. Even though they perform fairly well on the battlefield. Mostly due to lack of models available when I started playing in the early 1980's. As time progressed, however, I found that the crabs were worthy additions to my forces. Especially the CRB-45 'word of blake' version. As for the King Crab... I find myself tinkering with the design all the time. Mostly turning it into a long ranged fire support Mech, with heavy close range weaponry.
One of the first mech I played against. In fact it's been a mainstay in my table top over the years though I never had one. This is the mech to take into a campaign. Zero Expendables, no ammo explosion gutting a battle plan. Yeah runs warm but it can rotate out if the player is smart and the mech can without excess trouble. Good grounds speed, easy repair no overhead in Expendables. It's a great mech for a merch, if you can get your hands on it is easy on the budget long term, I recommend telling it's previous owner is not his anymore with a gun barrel, and wob did wonders with it. Not my favorite but won't laugh at one
It's like the AK47 of Meks, it never becomes irrelevant. I'm a bit surprised there's never been a historical variant that made use of TSM, it seems practically built for it.
I don’t know about it running hot as I have used this big guy in MW5 and it seems like it’s heat dissipation is good even in the desert in the middle of the day.
One of the most balanced designs in 3025. You can move and shoot both Large Lasers with ease. Adding DHS just makes this thing even more deadly. You don't even need to add advanced construction materials, like FF or ES, unless you want to. I wonder how the Comguards maintained their arsenals of SL era Mechs and vehicles given that they also relied on the same manufacturers, that were pretty much gone by the time of the Clan invasion. They would have to repair or replace worn parts even if they never used them due to the passage of time. Adding JJs would be a perfect choice since you can get to a higher elevation to snipe.
Excellent video. I did not know there were so many variants of the Crab. Not surprising Comstar had them. Nice move on their part to trade out the advanced gear with more common equipment when they handed over a bunch to House Kurita. Thanks for the exciting lore treasure filled video GrimDark Narrator :)
just got mine From the BattleTech DLC and after putting in a couple of Double heat sinks and some lighter Large Lasers and a few medium pulse lasers and increasing the armor and the secondary systems a bit it can take on most opponents with a good chance of winning as long as you limit what you pick a fight with to a certain degree. A great Medium mech
The Crab hits above it's weight. It' speed, firepower and armor make it hard not to like. Often a Crab can take down heavies, and not the weaker heavies.
GDN, your spoiling us! Two BT videos in one week. Quick question.. Do you plan on doing the Mackie, since it was the first Battle mech? I think alot of your 40k fans would get a kick out of the looks, it does kinda look a little Orky.
You mean the Succession Wars? Also depends on what you mean by "in depth" :) I have a contact email in the description. You can write me there and i can give you more details. It would not cost much as its a topic I wanted to cover myself eventually.
I really enjoy the mech designs that arent overly humanoid or decorative in terms of a facade more complex than an atlas. I dont dig the mechs with anthropomorphic hands or anything protomech looking. Said features don't seem like realistic tactical design choices and it shifts the mechs to a more fiction less science place that breaks my immersion. Anyone else feel like that, or do I think about some reallll stupid shitttt?
no you're right, it's just odd coming from someone that has the principality of Zeon insignia as their profile pic, have you seen the MS-06 lol jk bud =P
@@mechwarriorforever I feel you. The thing is mechs aren't giant robots, they're walking tanks. I dont compare my Mobile Suits to my BattleMechs lol ;)
I feel similarly. I prefer the ones looking less humanoid as well. Seeing giant "humans" is less enjoyable than mechs that actually look like war machines.
Fun fact. The crab is so easy to work on and maintain that easy maintenance jobs are often called a crab walk.

😂😂😂😂😂 well played

Goddamn the Crab and King Crab are just the definition of classy mech design.
Clanner: sir they're fielding a lance of crabs
Star commander: heh they got crabs
"Send in the Exterminators!"
Best medium mech pre clan
Crab battle. Crab battle. Looks like crab kills like battle!

Oh hell these things are a bitch to kill. I can never core one without chewing it to scrap in the process.
I never really cared about mechs before, now these videos are among my favourites and the ones I most look forward too.
Good work GDN.
Happy to hear that.
Normally I hate lasers as primary, but this is one of the few pure laser boats that I actually like.
The Clans lost the Invasion because they never made the Crab IIC.

Affordable, sturdy, not dependent on ammunition. A personal favorite of mine
I want to see the Merlin Battlemech. It’s a medium weight mech produced by the Taurian Concordat
I'll add it to possible topics.
It's appearance is like a crab and it fights like a crab.
Therefore, it is a crab.
The Crab is an amazingly good Mech.
Crabby too.
@@GrimDarkNarrator true, if it gets shot in the back it has a nasty cranky side if you override it.
My second favorite medium mech after the Bushwacker.
My favorite mech overall. Love the MWO model - so good. Great video!
Thanks.

It is a sturdy mech indeed.
having fond memories with mechwarrior 2 mercenaries
equip crab with ppc while ditch its large weaponary for medium weaponary instead
crab
Witou furder aduuuu.........i cant be the only one that finds that bit entertaining. Good vids keep it up!
Glad you find that entertaining, lol. Thanks :)
Bloke sounds like the male version of a Sat Nav hahaha

I recommend he start there lol
Didn't consider it, but now I'll add it to the suggestions for future polls. Afraid last week im swamped with the Centurion and the King Crab.
Hahahaha my my mates call me "Mackie " lol
Its awesome your doing battetech. If I had the money I would buy this IP and do it justice.
The more recent Battletech game was pretty good, but it could still use something bigger budget.
Mechanised Crustations >_< ROFLMAO thats awesome XD
sounds like someone has the "crabs" ....
lol 😂
The first time I used this mech was from Mechwarrior II Mercenaries.
Currently running a 2 crabs in mw5
Good stuff man! Really enjoyable.
Thank you.
Traded the Marauder for this.
No regrets.
the one time in life where getting crabs is a good thing :D
@@GrimDarkNarrator A coconut crab has strength in its claws to bend steel. 💪🦀
Wonder why no version dropped the M-Laser for a 17th heat sink allowing for continuos fire and movement
I prefer the Starslayer to the Crab.
So, one could say that Stephan Amaris was the best way to prevent the spread of..... crabs?
One could say 😂
9min volley fire? I think you ment alternating fire. Volley would be both at the same time...
My bad.
