Mystery Valentine's Day Yarn Bundles start shipping today! chemknitscreations.etsy.com/listing/1659667153 Each 100 g skein of yarn comes with a sticker, progress keeper, and a handmade valentine created by me!
I would love to see a small sample of these experimental dyed yarns kniited or crocheted up. I'm new to this concept of speckles and squiggles and huge colour variance so I'd like to understand what effects create what patterns when worked up.
The squiggles will end up looking a bit more like speckles, or small repeating variegated yarn. (Which I know doesn't answer your question exactly!) I wish I had the capacity to swatch more of my colorways in videos, I mostly just swatch during self striping videos since the way colors pool or don't pool can vary so much depending on stitch type, gauge etc. I'm overdue for a video of showing off things people have knit with my yarns. I do a sampler every December for Chanukah where I dye 8 different colorways with differnt techniques to give different types of colorways so people can play and see how they work up. I'm sure I've saved some of those photos somewhere...
You draw attention to the blue in establishing if it's speckled or variegated - but the pink is just as important... I think that, as it is worked, the pink will look more variegated with blue specks to break it up, so I'm going with a variegation on the pink.

Scribble dyeing FTW!!!!
Would you call this speckled or variegated?
I would go with variegated. Too many big sections of color to call it speckled.
Mottled.

Oooooooo! You're right!
Variegated
I went with variegated in the listings in the end
I think that yak yarn could be a nice berry color by dyeing it all pink.
I love the way colors come out on the yak yarn. It is one of my favorite yarn bases for sure
